Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Start by adjusting the headset rather than stretching or modifying it: reposition the sliders and earcups so the cushions sit correctly and the headband rests gently on your head. Then identify whether the pressure is coming from the headband, ears, temples, or glasses; each calls for a different adjustment.
Adjust the fit before changing anything
- Extend the sliders. Adjust both sides until the earcups sit at a comfortable height and the cushions rest over or around your ears.
- Set the headband. Aim for gentle contact at the top of your head, not a tight clamp. Sony’s fit guidance is to “Adjust the slider so the headband softly touches the top of your head.” See Sony’s headphone fit guidance.
- Reposition the earcups. Make small adjustments so the pads sit evenly. Avoid forcing or twisting the headset; Sony cautions against excessive force while adjusting.
Try one change at a time, then wear the headset briefly to see whether it reduces the pressure point. If discomfort builds, take it off or reposition it rather than trying to push through.
Find where the discomfort starts
- Pressure on top of your head: Adjust the sliders so the headband rests gently rather than bearing down in one spot.
- Sore or crowded ears: Check that each earcup is centered and that your ears are not folded awkwardly against the cushions.
- Pressure at the temples: If you wear glasses, try shifting the frames or headset slightly so the arms do not press hard between your head and the cushions. RØDE discusses glasses-related pressure in its NTH-50 fit guidance; removing glasses may be an option for some people, but it is not necessary or practical for everyone.
Consider different cushions only if they fit your model
If the pressure seems to come from worn, shallow, or uncomfortable cushions, replacement headphone ear pads may help when the manufacturer offers compatible options. Cushion attachments and dimensions are not universal: check the exact headset model and how its pads mount before ordering. Sennheiser recommends trying different cushions or padding when available, but that does not mean another model’s pads will fit yours.
Be cautious with break-in advice and stretching
Sennheiser suggests wearing headphones for short periods over several days as a gradual break-in approach. If you try this, stop when discomfort develops; gradual wear is not a guarantee that a poor fit will improve.
#1 Best Overall
- Comfort is King: Comfort’s in the Cloud III’s DNA. Built for gamers who can’t have an uncomfortable headset ruin the flow of their full-combo, disrupt their speedrun, or knocking them out of the zone.
- Audio Tuned for Your Entertainment: Angled 53mm drivers have been tuned by HyperX audio engineers to provide the optimal listening experience that accents the dynamic sounds of gaming.
- Upgraded Microphone for Clarity and Accuracy: Captures high-quality audio for clear voice chat and calls. The mic is noise-cancelling and features a built-in mesh filter to omit disruptive sounds and LED mic mute indicator lets you know when you’re muted.
- Durability, for the Toughest of Battles: The headset is flexible and features an aluminum frame so it’s resilient against travel, accidents, mishaps, and your ‘level-headed’ reactions to losses and defeat screens.
Do not treat stretching the headband as a risk-free fix. Sennheiser warns that stretching can crack or permanently damage it and may affect the warranty. RØDE likewise cautions that stretching can damage the headband. Check your manufacturer’s instructions and warranty terms before attempting any modification.
Take a break when discomfort builds
There is no established, research-backed break interval for long gaming sessions in the manufacturer guidance cited here. Instead, respond to how the headset feels: remove or reposition it when pressure, soreness, or irritation starts to build. A schedule that feels comfortable for one person is not a proven rule for everyone.

When adjustment is not enough
If the headset remains uncomfortable after careful repositioning, its shape, contact points, or wearing style may not suit you. There is no universally most comfortable headset design established by the available sources. When comparing alternatives, assess whether the cups are on-ear or over-ear, how deeply and fully the cushions cover your ears, the headband’s adjustment range, how it fits with glasses, the weight, and the seller’s return policy. These are useful fit checks, not conclusions from comparative comfort testing.
