For a two-player PS5 session, It Takes Two is the clearest pick for a story-led adventure built specifically around a pair. Split Fiction is another two-player local co-op adventure, while Overcooked! All You Can Eat suits couples who want frantic teamwork and can expand to a larger group. These are different kinds of fun, not a tested ranking.
Best choice for a co-op adventure built for two
It Takes Two
It Takes Two is designed purely for cooperative play. PlayStation lists the PS5 version for 1–2 players and describes couch or online co-op with split-screen. That makes it the most direct fit here if both people want to share one adventure and progress together. PlayStation’s product page says offline couch co-op does not require an internet connection.

PlayStation also describes a Friend’s Pass for inviting a friend to online co-op. That feature is for online play, not a requirement for two people playing locally. The same FAQ says online co-op requires PlayStation Plus for both participants; couch co-op does not require internet. Check the product page for the current details in your region.
Best alternative for two-player split-screen co-op
Split Fiction
PlayStation’s local multiplayer guide lists Split Fiction as two-player local co-op and describes split-screen play. Choose it if you want another adventure explicitly listed for a pair. The guide establishes its local player support, but it is not a head-to-head review, so it does not establish that this game is better than It Takes Two.

Best for hectic teamwork or a bigger group
Overcooked! All You Can Eat
Overcooked! All You Can Eat supports 2–4 local players, making it a good fit for two while leaving room for friends or family to join. PlayStation describes it as a compilation of the first Overcooked!, its sequel and DLC packs. Its guide also notes assist options, including slowing timers and skipping levels—useful if the pressure is more stressful than fun.

What about Sackboy: A Big Adventure?
PlayStation’s product page lists Sackboy: A Big Adventure for 1–4 players and calls it a multiplayer platforming adventure. However, that page does not establish that those players can play locally, so the listed range alone is not enough to recommend it specifically for same-couch play. Confirm local multiplayer support on the exact edition’s listing before buying.

Two people playing on one PS5 need two controllers. PlayStation recommends adding an extra DualSense wireless controller to a local multiplayer setup; if you already have two compatible controllers, you do not need another. Check the current game listing for your market before purchase, since editions and availability can vary.
