The Crafter is a redstone-powered block that crafts when it receives a pulse and sends the result out of its front face.
Crafter recipe
The recipe ingredients are the same in the official Java Edition 1.21 release notes and Bedrock Edition 1.21 changelog: five Iron Ingots, two Redstone Dust, one Crafting Table, and one Dropper. The recipe uses a Crafting Table’s 3×3 grid.

This is the recipe pattern documented for the Crafter. If the output does not appear, check the in-game recipe book and make sure the recipe is available in your edition and world.
How to craft it
- Gather five Iron Ingots, two Redstone Dust, one Crafting Table, and one Dropper.
- Open a Crafting Table to access its 3×3 grid.
- Place the ingredients in the pattern shown above.
- Take the Crafter from the output slot.

How to use a Crafter
Place the block with its front facing the area where you want the crafted item to go. Its front face points toward you when you place it. The Crafter has its own 3×3 grid, and a redstone pulse triggers a craft; the result is ejected from the front. Remainder items from recipes can also be ejected with the result.
Configure the grid
Each slot can be toggled off. A disabled slot cannot hold items and will not accept items fed in by a hopper or dropper. This can help prevent ingredients from entering grid positions a recipe does not use.

Feed, trigger, and collect
- Feed ingredients into the positions required by the recipe.
- Send a redstone pulse when the grid contains the ingredients for the intended craft. The release notes describe crafting on a pulse, not simply from holding a continuous signal.
- Collect the output from the front face, and account for any recipe remainder items ejected with it.
The exact circuit and item-feeding arrangement depend on the recipe and desired throughput; they are not specified by the block’s recipe alone.

The Crafter and its recipe are documented in the final Java Edition 1.21 release notes and the Bedrock Edition 1.21 changelog. Bedrock’s earlier 1.20.50 notes introduced it as an experimental feature, so instructions for older worlds or previews may refer to an experimental toggle. Java snapshot 23w46a also described development-era changes to tick timing; use final-release guidance rather than assuming snapshot behavior applies to released versions.

If the recipe is missing, check the recipe book and confirm the installed edition and world configuration. Official release notes establish the recipe and documented behavior for 1.21; they do not establish behavior for every later minor release, mod, server, or data pack. See the Java Edition 1.21 release notes, the Bedrock 1.21 changelog, and the Java snapshot 23w46a notes.
