Smelt four Ancient Debris in a Furnace or Blast Furnace to obtain the scraps, then place all eight ingredients anywhere in a crafting grid. The other practical ways to obtain an ingot are finding one as Bastion Remnant loot or using Creative mode/commands.
What you need for one Netherite Ingot

Ancient Debris smelts into Netherite Scrap rather than directly into an ingot. See the Ancient Debris reference for the smelting result.
Method 1: Mine Ancient Debris, smelt it, and craft the ingot
1. Enter the Nether prepared
Take a Diamond Pickaxe or Netherite Pickaxe. Ancient Debris mined with an iron, stone, gold, or wooden pickaxe breaks without dropping the block.
2. Mine around Y-level 15
Y-level 15 is a commonly targeted, high-probability level—not the only level where Ancient Debris generates. On Java Edition, press F3 to see coordinates. On Bedrock Edition, enable coordinates in the world settings.

Mining tunnels, or carefully using explosions, can expose more blocks. Beds explode when used in the Nether, and TNT or beds may expose lava, so keep an escape route and fire-resistant supplies ready. Ancient Debris itself is blast-resistant.
3. Smelt the Ancient Debris
- Place a Furnace or Blast Furnace.
- Put Ancient Debris in the input slot and add fuel.
- Collect one Netherite Scrap for each Ancient Debris block.
- Repeat until you have four scraps.
A Smoker cannot smelt Ancient Debris.
4. Add Gold Ingots
Obtain four Gold Ingots. Fortune does not multiply Ancient Debris drops: each successfully mined block yields one Ancient Debris block.

5. Craft the Netherite Ingot
- Open a Crafting Table.
- Place four Netherite Scraps and four Gold Ingots in any eight slots of the 3×3 grid. The recipe is shapeless, so the arrangement does not matter.
- Take the Netherite Ingot from the result slot.

Method 2: Find Netherite in a Bastion Remnant
1. Locate a Bastion Remnant
Bastions generate in the Nether Wastes, Crimson Forests, Warped Forests, and Soul Sand Valleys. They do not generate in Basalt Deltas.

2. Search the chests
Check every chest, giving special attention to Treasure Room chests. Depending on randomized loot, a chest can contain Netherite Scrap, Ancient Debris, or—more rarely—a complete Netherite Ingot. A bastion can also contain no Netherite material.
3. Craft any scraps you find
If the loot gives you scraps rather than a finished ingot, combine four Netherite Scraps and four Gold Ingots in a crafting grid using the recipe above.

Stay alive while looting
- Wear at least one piece of Gold armor to prevent ordinary Piglins from attacking solely because of proximity.
- Piglin Brutes attack regardless of your Gold armor.
- Opening or breaking chests can make nearby Piglins hostile.
Bastion raiding is an acquisition route, not a second crafting recipe: the Survival recipe remains four scraps plus four Gold Ingots.
Method 3: Use Creative inventory or commands
Creative inventory
- Open a world in Creative mode, or switch to Creative if the world permits it.
- Open the inventory and select the Search tab.
- Search for Netherite Ingot.
- Move the item to your inventory or hotbar.
This gives the item without Ancient Debris, scraps, Gold, a furnace, or a Crafting Table. It is not a Survival crafting method.

Java Edition command
/give @p minecraft:netherite_ingot 1Replace 1 with the quantity you want; @p targets the nearest player.
Bedrock Edition command
/give @p netherite_ingot 1Enter commands in chat with a leading slash. Bedrock’s command guidance is available in Microsoft’s command introduction.
Bedrock permissions and cheats
- Cheats must be enabled when creating or editing the world. Enabling cheats disables achievements for that world.
- In the pause menu, select the player/permissions icon beside the player entry and enable operator commands.
- On a server, you also need the appropriate operator permission.
If the command is rejected, check cheats, operator permissions, the leading slash, and the edition-specific item ID. Use chat autocomplete or /help to verify available syntax.
What the Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template does—and does not do
The Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template is not required to craft a Netherite Ingot. Since the 1.20-era smithing changes, it is required when upgrading a diamond item at a Smithing Table. Put the template in the first slot, the diamond item in the middle slot, and the Netherite Ingot in the right slot. Microsoft’s Bedrock recipe definition lists the required template, diamond base item, and minecraft:netherite_ingot in the smithing-transform recipe documentation.

- “Four Ancient Debris and four Gold Ingots make an ingot directly.” Smelt the Ancient Debris first; it becomes four Netherite Scraps.
- Mining with the wrong pickaxe. Use Diamond or Netherite, or the block drops nothing.
- Expecting Fortune to help. Fortune does not increase Ancient Debris drops.
- Looking for “Netherite Ore.” The mineable block is named Ancient Debris.
- Using a Smoker. Use a Furnace or Blast Furnace.
- Assuming every bastion has Netherite. Bastion loot is randomized and may contain none.
- Believing Gold armor stops Piglin Brutes. Brutes remain hostile.
- Expecting Netherite armor to prevent lava damage. Netherite items resist destruction by fire and lava, but the player can still take lava damage.
- Using the wrong command syntax. Java uses
minecraft:netherite_ingot; the documented Bedrock example usesnetherite_ingot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template to make an ingot?
No. The template is only needed to upgrade diamond equipment at a Smithing Table; it is not part of the Netherite Ingot recipe.
