You can turn up a PS5 controller’s vibration intensity, but the PS5 does not document a system setting that makes a DualSense vibrate continuously. Sustained vibration depends on the game producing that effect; the console’s general intensity setting only changes how strong supported vibration feels.
How to turn up vibration on a PS5 controller
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General).
- Select Vibration Intensity and choose the strength you want. Sony describes this as an intensity adjustment, not a command to start or sustain vibration. PlayStation Support explains the controller settings.
- Open the game’s controller, accessibility, or haptics settings and check whether it offers additional vibration controls.
Can you make a DualSense keep vibrating?
Not through a universal PS5 setting documented by Sony. Vibration during play depends on the effects a game supports and when it triggers them. If a game does not produce a sustained vibration effect, increasing the console’s intensity setting cannot create one.
Game-specific controls vary. For example, God of War Ragnarök’s accessibility options include a vibration-intensity slider ranging from 0 to 10. That slider adjusts intensity in that game; it does not establish that every game has the same setting or that the game will vibrate continuously.
What the PS5 vibration and haptics settings control
| Setting or feature | Where it applies | What it controls | Does it make vibration continuous? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vibration Intensity | General controller setting | Strength of supported vibration | No; it changes intensity, not whether a game runs a sustained effect. PlayStation Support |
| Game vibration or haptic options | The individual game | Only the controls and effects that game provides | Only if the game supports a sustained effect; availability varies. God of War Ragnarök accessibility options are one example of a game-specific intensity control. |
| Haptic Feedback During Console Navigation | PS5 interface navigation | Feedback for actions such as moving focus, changing settings, notifications, or using the on-screen keyboard | No; it applies to console navigation, not sustained in-game vibration. See PlayStation’s accessibility settings guide. |
Why does the controller vibrate only in certain games or moments?
Games decide which supported controller effects to use and when. A controller that vibrates for some actions but not others may be behaving according to the game’s design or its settings. Check that game’s controller or accessibility menu for vibration options; the PS5’s system intensity control can make supported vibration stronger, but it cannot add an effect the game does not provide.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Use vibration with care
Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller instruction manual warns that vibration may cause a controller placed on a flat surface to fall. It advises people with relevant hand or arm ailments or injuries not to use vibration or trigger effects unless those features are turned off, and recommends taking a break about every 30 minutes.
