A beginner-friendly first shop uses in-game currency; Robux passes and developer products use different purchase flows. You can also use Roblox’s built-in Shop to list eligible passes and developer products instead of building their browsing interface yourself.
Choose what your shop sells
Decide on the purchase model before building the buttons. A game-currency shop uses your experience’s own balance and inventory. Roblox monetization uses passes for one-time purchases that grant lasting privileges, and developer products for repeat purchases such as currency packs or consumables. The built-in Roblox Shop can display eligible passes and developer products.

The steps below focus on a custom shop that spends in-game currency. It does not require Robux.
Build the shop interface
In Studio, create a ScreenGui for an on-screen shop. Put a Frame inside it for the panel, then add text or image labels for item names and prices and buttons for purchase actions. Add a balance display and open/close controls. A list or grid layout can keep several item cards aligned. Roblox documents these UI objects and also supports SurfaceGui and BillboardGui for interfaces displayed in the 3D world. See User interface.

Treat the interface as presentation only. A displayed price or a button click does not prove that a player can afford an item, and the client must not be allowed to decide what gets granted.
Make game-currency purchases server-authoritative
Use a RemoteEvent to send the server an item identifier when a player clicks a purchase button. The server should look up the item in its own catalog, check the player’s balance, subtract the cost, and grant the item. Roblox’s guidance is explicit: “To ensure fairness, the server has to be the source of truth for a game.” Read its Remote events and callbacks documentation for how client-server communication works.

- Keep the catalog on the server. Store each item’s identifier, price, and grant behavior where a server script can access them. Do not accept a price or a balance supplied by the client.
- Send only the requested item identifier. The client can ask to buy an item, but it should not report that the purchase succeeded.
- Validate and transact on the server. Confirm the item exists, the player is eligible, and the authoritative balance covers its cost. Only then subtract currency and grant the item.
- Update the interface from server-confirmed state. Show the new balance or inventory after the server has completed the transaction, and provide a clear response if the item is unknown or the player cannot afford it.
This is an architecture, not a complete drop-in script: your item representation, currency setup, and grant logic depend on the game. Roblox’s cited pages explain remotes and server verification but do not prescribe a complete game-currency shop template.
Save currency and purchases across sessions
If a player should keep currency or purchased inventory after leaving, store that data with DataStoreService. Data stores persist information across sessions and are accessed by server scripts; a LocalScript cannot access them. Roblox also says data stores are consistent across places within an experience. For an initial prototype, you can keep balance and inventory in server-side session data, but that data resets when the session ends. When testing persistence, Roblox warns that Studio can share data-store access with the live experience. Enable API services only in a separate test version rather than risking live player data.

Passes: one-time privileges
Use a pass for a benefit intended to be purchased once and retained, such as a lasting privilege. Prompt for the pass, check ownership, and make your experience assign the benefit through server logic. Roblox notes that the creator’s experience is responsible for assigning pass privileges, including for owners who join later. See Passes.

Developer products: repeatable purchases
Use a developer product when a player may buy the same type of benefit repeatedly, such as a currency pack or consumable. You can prompt the purchase through MarketplaceService, but the server must grant the product through a ProcessReceipt handler. Do not treat PromptProductPurchaseFinished as proof of purchase: Roblox warns that the event firing does not confirm a completed purchase. If the product cannot yet be granted, leave the receipt unresolved so Roblox can retry. See Developer Products.
Use Roblox’s built-in Shop instead of recreating discovery
If you mainly want players to browse your eligible passes and developer products, configure the Creator Hub Shop. It supports categories and developer-product visibility controls; save catalog changes after configuring them. Its listing surface does not replace the server-side benefit assignment or receipt processing required by each purchase type. See Shop.
