What you need before starting
Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse is a Forge modpack by sneak on CurseForge. Its published target is Minecraft 1.16.5 on the Forge loader. The project turns survival into a zombie-focused scenario with new armor and weapons, generated structures and world generation, custom zombies and animations, vehicles, guns, unique items, and additional content.

The safest server build is the author’s separate server distribution. CurseForge lists Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip, uploaded July 10, 2024, for Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge. The listed download size is 464.9 MB.
| Item | Required value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.16.5 | The project’s published game version |
| Mod loader | Forge | The loader used by the pack |
| Server download | Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip | Contains the server-side distribution rather than only a client profile |
| Server archive listing | Uploaded July 10, 2024; 464.9 MB | Helps you verify that you downloaded the intended file |
You also need a computer or server account that can run a 1.16.5 Forge server, enough disk space for the archive, the generated world, logs, and backups, and network access for the players you intend to invite. The exact Java build and launcher syntax can depend on the Forge distribution and operating system, so use the requirements shown by the downloaded server package instead of copying a command from an unrelated modpack.

Choose local hosting or a managed server
There are two practical ways to host the pack. A local server gives you direct access to every file and setting, while a managed host supplies a control panel and operates the underlying machine. Neither option changes the pack’s compatibility requirement: players still need matching Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge files.
| Consideration | Local hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Full access to mods, configs, worlds, scripts, and server properties | Control panel access with provider-managed infrastructure |
| Network | Uses your upload connection, router, firewall, and public IP | Uses a datacenter address supplied by the host |
| Maintenance | You handle Java, Forge, backups, firewall rules, and updates | The provider may automate installation, backups, and some maintenance |
| Cost model | Uses existing hardware and electricity | Requires a recurring hosting payment; check current pricing before ordering |
| Scaling | Limited by the computer’s CPU, memory, storage, and connection | Plans can generally be resized more easily |
For a home server, confirm that your internet service permits inbound connections and that you can configure port forwarding. A changing public IP can make the address harder for friends to use. A managed server avoids those home-network tasks, but you should compare CPU performance, allocated memory, backups, DDoS protection, datacenter location, modpack import support, and cancellation terms before paying.

Its current listing recommends 6–8 GB for a smooth multiplayer experience. That is a provider recommendation, not an independently established minimum for every group. Actual needs vary with player count, view distance, world activity, and other settings.
Install the official server archive locally
1. Create a dedicated server folder
Make a new folder used only for this server, such as a folder named for the pack. Do not extract the archive into your general Minecraft client directory. Keeping the server isolated makes it easier to back up the world, replace a configuration file, or remove the server without damaging another installation.
2. Download the matching SERVER.zip
In the CurseForge project’s files, select Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip. Check that the file record identifies Minecraft 1.16.5 and Forge, and that the upload date and size correspond to the listed server artifact. A client-only pack download may not contain the server scripts, libraries, or layout you need.
3. Extract every server component together
Unzip the archive directly into the dedicated folder. Keep the extracted mods, config, scripts, libraries, and any Forge files together. Do not move individual mods into a different installation unless the archive instructions explicitly tell you to do so. A missing configuration or library can produce errors that look like a bad mod even when the real problem is an incomplete extraction.

4. Inspect the included startup files
Look at the files the archive supplied before launching anything. Use the included Windows launcher, shell script, or Forge server command if one is present. Script names and Java arguments can differ between archive revisions and operating systems, so do not substitute a command copied from another pack. On a Unix-like system, a supplied script may need execute permission; on Windows, use the provided batch launcher or the command documented in the distribution.

If the package includes a readme, follow its launch order. Some Forge distributions generate additional files on their first run, while others include a complete launch setup. Keep the terminal or console visible so you can see which files are created and whether startup reaches a line indicating that the server is ready.
5. Handle the EULA prompt
On the first start, the server may stop after creating an eula.txt file. Stop the process if it is still running, open that file, read Mojang’s terms, and change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept them. Save the file and launch again with the same supplied script or Forge command. Setting the value does not install the pack; it only allows the server process to continue.
6. Configure server.properties
After the initial run creates server.properties, stop the server cleanly before editing it. Set the options appropriate for your group:
- Port: choose the port your players will use and keep the firewall and router rule consistent with it.
- Difficulty: select the challenge level that fits your group’s expectations for the zombie scenario.
- View distance: lower it if the machine or connection struggles, or raise it only after confirming that the server remains responsive.
- Gameplay settings: review the remaining properties rather than assuming the pack’s defaults fit your world.
Back up server.properties, the world folder, and the configuration directory before making substantial changes. Never overwrite a working world with a test configuration without a recoverable copy.
7. Start again and read the console
Launch the server and watch the complete console output. A successful startup should proceed past library and mod loading and eventually report that the server is ready to accept connections. The first launch can take longer because Forge and the pack generate files and world data.
If the process stops, copy the first meaningful error and the surrounding lines from the log. The final line is often only a consequence of an earlier problem. Look for missing files, a Java compatibility message, a failed mod dependency, a malformed configuration, or a port-binding error.
8. Make the server reachable
For players on the same home network, provide the host computer’s local address and the configured port when required by the client. For players outside your network, allow the chosen port through the operating-system firewall and forward it from the router to the server computer. Give friends the reachable public address, not an address that works only inside your house.

Test from a second connection if possible. A connection test performed from inside the same network can succeed even when router forwarding blocks internet players. Do not publish your public address widely; give it only to people you trust.
Install the matching client pack
Every player must run the same Minecraft version, Forge loader, and pack files as the server. A client that launches vanilla 1.16.5, a different Forge build, or a newer revision of the pack can fail before joining or can be rejected for a mod-list mismatch.
GDLauncher quick-install method
GDLauncher documents a workflow that creates a Forge instance and installs the pack with its dependencies:
- Open GDLauncher and choose the option to create a new instance.
- Select the Forge loader and Minecraft 1.16.5 when prompted.
- Open the instance’s Addons area.
- Paste the quick-install ID
#sneaks-zombie-apocalypse-pack. - Download the pack and its dependencies.
- Launch the instance once, then confirm that the title screen and installed-mod list match the server distribution.
Players using another launcher should install the same CurseForge pack release and Forge target manually, then compare the resulting mods and config contents with the server package where appropriate. Do not add optional mods casually: even a client-side change can create a different environment or complicate troubleshooting.

Joining the server
- Start the matching 1.16.5 Forge client.
- Open Multiplayer and choose Add Server or Direct Connection.
- Enter the address and port supplied by the server operator.
- Connect only after the server console shows that startup has completed.
Keep a copy of the client profile that successfully connects. If you later update the server, update every client to the same pack release and back up the world before allowing players to join.
What the pack changes in gameplay
The pack is designed as an all-out zombie-apocalypse conversion rather than a small collection of unrelated cosmetic mods. Its published feature list includes:
- Zombie-themed armor and weapons for fighting and surviving encounters.
- New generated structures and world generation that alter exploration.
- Custom zombies and animations that change how enemies look and behave.
- Vehicles and guns that add movement and ranged-combat options.
- Unique items and additional content beyond the listed headline features.
Because structures and world generation are part of the experience, decide on the world seed and generation settings before inviting the group. Changing generation-related mods or configs after a world has been explored can create inconsistent terrain or missing content. A fresh test world is useful for checking that the pack loads before committing to a long-running cooperative map.

Troubleshoot the most common failures
The server says the EULA has not been accepted
Stop the process, open eula.txt in the server folder, and set the value to true only after accepting Mojang’s EULA. Make sure you edited the file in the folder that the launcher actually uses; a second copy elsewhere will not affect startup.
Forge or Minecraft versions do not match
Confirm that the server is the 1.16.5 Forge distribution and that each player selected the same Minecraft and Forge values. “Forge” alone is not a sufficient version match. Recreate a clean client instance if a launcher has retained files from another Minecraft version.
The server reports missing mods or dependencies
Re-extract the official server archive and check that the mods, config, and library files were not skipped. On the client, reinstall the pack through the launcher’s dependency-aware workflow. Compare filenames and versions rather than downloading random replacement jars from search results.
A script will not run
Use the script intended for your operating system and read any included instructions. On Unix-like systems, check that the script has execute permission. On Windows, launch the supplied batch file from the server directory so relative paths resolve correctly. If the script references a Java executable that is not installed or cannot be found, install the Java environment required by the Forge distribution and update the script’s path according to its own instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe console reports a Java error
Do not guess a Java version from a different Minecraft release. Read the Forge installer or archive documentation, confirm that the selected Java executable meets that requirement, and ensure the server and launcher are not using different Java installations. Record the full error before changing settings so you can undo an unsuccessful change.
Players cannot connect from outside the house
Check that the server is running, the chosen port in server.properties matches the router forwarding rule, and the operating-system firewall allows the server process. Verify that the router forwards to the computer’s current local address. If the internet provider uses a changing public IP or blocks inbound connections, a managed host may be simpler than repeatedly repairing home networking.
The server is laggy or runs out of memory
Start with the settings that create the most work: view distance, number of simultaneous players, and heavily active areas with mobs, vehicles, or generated structures. Lower view distance before changing mods, and watch the console for repeated warnings. The 6–8 GB figure published by ServerPrism is a recommendation for its service, not a universal minimum; do not treat it as proof that every group needs exactly that amount.
A world or configuration change caused problems
Stop the server, restore the latest known-good backup, and test the change in a separate world first. Keep dated copies of the world and configuration folders. If a player updated their client independently, return them to the exact pack files used by the server before attempting more invasive repairs.

Keeping the server maintainable
Back up before every change
Make a complete copy of the world, configs, and server properties before changing Forge, replacing the pack, or altering generation settings. Store at least one backup outside the live server directory so an accidental deletion does not remove both copies.
Change one variable at a time
When diagnosing a failure, do not simultaneously change Java, Forge, the mod list, and the server properties. Restore the last working state, make one controlled change, and check the console. This approach identifies whether the problem is a version mismatch, an incomplete file set, a network rule, or a resource limit.
Keep a version record
Write down the Minecraft version, Forge version, pack file name, server archive date, Java executable used, port, and major configuration changes. Give the same record to every player. A simple text file in the server folder can prevent hours of uncertainty after an update.
Plan updates as coordinated events
Do not update the server while players are connected. Announce the maintenance window, back up the world, update the server and all client profiles to the same release, and test with one player before reopening the server to everyone.
When managed hosting is the better choice
Choose a managed server if you do not want to maintain router rules, firewall access, Java installations, backups, or Forge files yourself. A provider that offers one-click or automatic installation for Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse can reduce setup time, but you still need to verify that the current panel supports the exact 1.16.5 Forge pack and allows you to upload or preserve the author’s server files.
Before ordering, ask how memory is allocated, which CPU is used, where the datacenter is located, how backups are scheduled and restored, whether DDoS protection is included, and whether you can cancel or resize the plan. Confirm the provider’s current price and pack support at checkout; those details can change independently of the modpack.
After deployment, use the host’s file manager or console to confirm that the server contains the expected mods and configs. Give players the address generated by the panel, then apply the same client-matching rules used for a local server.
Final launch checklist
- The server uses Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge.
- You downloaded the author’s Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip rather than only a client profile.
- The archive was extracted intact into a dedicated directory.
- The supplied launcher or Forge command was used for the operating system.
- The EULA was accepted deliberately, if the first launch created an EULA file.
server.propertieshas the intended port, difficulty, view distance, and gameplay settings.- The world and configuration files have a backup.
- The firewall and router allow the selected port when remote players are joining a home server.
- Every player installed the same 1.16.5 Forge pack files.
- The console reaches a ready state before anyone connects.
The Bottom Line
The reliable recipe is simple: install the dedicated Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip for Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge, preserve its complete file layout, launch it with the included files, configure networking and server properties, and keep every client on the identical pack version. Use managed hosting when you prefer provider-operated Forge deployment and networking, but treat its 6–8 GB guidance as a service recommendation rather than a universal requirement.
