To make an All the Mods 3 server, download the separate ATM3-SERVER-FULL-6.1.1 server archive for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge, extract every file into a dedicated folder, run its included startup script with a compatible Java runtime (Java 8 is the safest choice), accept the EULA, and give every player the identical ATM3 client release. A small group should start with about 6–8 GB allocated to the server; the host machine needs additional memory for the operating system and Java.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
ATM3 is a legacy pack, so version matching matters more than using the newest Java or Forge installation. The currently identified full server release is ATM3 v6.1.1, listed for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge on June 8, 2022. The instructions below cover Windows or Linux-style command lines, with notes for a rented game server.

Prepare the host before downloading files. The server is a Java Edition application, not a Bedrock server, and it expects the same Minecraft and Forge family as the players’ clients.
Use the matching ATM3 release
Use ATM3 v6.1.1 and its full server package, identified as ATM3-SERVER-FULL-6.1.1. It targets Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. Do not extract only the client profile and expect it to become a server; the server archive contains scripts, configuration, libraries and launch files that the client package does not provide.

Install a compatible Java runtime
Minecraft’s Java server requires a compatible Java Runtime Environment. For this 1.12.2 pack, Java 8 is the conservative choice identified by ATM3 hosting guidance. Java 11 may work on some setups, but use it only after confirming that the pack’s scripts and Forge build run correctly. Newer Java releases can introduce compatibility problems with old Forge mods.
Verify the runtime from a terminal or command prompt:
java -version
If the output shows several installed Java versions or an unexpected major version, configure your startup script or host panel to call the Java 8 executable explicitly. Keep the full path available; on Windows it may look like C:Program FilesJavajre1.8.0_xxxbinjava.exe, while Linux distributions commonly expose a selected runtime through /usr/bin/java.
Provide storage and memory headroom
Create a machine or virtual server with free storage for the extracted pack, Forge libraries, logs, configuration files and the generated world. Large modpacks perform best on an SSD; general AllTheMods hardware guidance calls NVMe storage beneficial for world loading, but that guidance is not an ATM3-specific benchmark.
Plan memory separately for the Java process and the whole machine:
- Server allocation: at least 6 GB is a published general minimum for AllTheMods servers. Begin a small private ATM3 server at 6–8 GB and increase it only when the host has unused physical memory and logs show memory pressure.
- Total system memory: general guidance recommends about 16 GB of system RAM for the best playable experience, with 8–12 GB allocated to many modpacks. These are planning guidelines rather than measurements of an ATM3 v6.1.1 workload.
- Operating-system reserve: never assign all installed RAM to
-Xmx. Leave room for the operating system, Java’s non-heap memory and file caching.
Download the correct ATM3 server files
- Open the All the Mods 3 project on its CurseForge listing.
- Select the ATM3 v6.1.1 release for Minecraft 1.12.2.
- In the files or downloads area, choose the separate Server Files entry, named
ATM3-SERVER-FULL-6.1.1. The full server listing is dated June 8, 2022. - Save the archive locally. Keep the archive intact until you have created the destination directory and confirmed that the download completed.
Players should install the corresponding client profile through their launcher, also selecting ATM3 v6.1.1 for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge. A different ATM3 revision, Minecraft version or Forge build can produce missing-mod or mismatched-mod errors even when the server itself starts normally.

Install a local ATM3 server step by step
1. Create a clean server directory
Make a new folder dedicated to the world, such as ATM3-server. Avoid installing inside the launcher’s client directory: separating server files makes backups, permissions and upgrades safer.
Extract every item from the Server Files archive into that folder. After extraction, you should see the supplied startup script, settings or configuration files, Forge-related files and directories such as mods or config where included. Do not nest the contents one level too deep (for example, ATM3-server/ATM3-SERVER-FULL-6.1.1/...) if the script expects to run from the outer directory.
2. Check Java from the server folder
Open a command prompt or terminal in the new directory and run:
java -version
Confirm that the reported runtime is the Java 8 installation you intend to use. If your host has a control panel, select Java 8 in the server’s startup settings rather than relying on a system-wide default.
3. Run the supplied startup script
Use the file included with the archive. Depending on the archive and operating system it may be called serverstart, serverstart.bat, StartServer or have a similar name.
- Windows: double-click the supplied
.batlauncher, or run it from Command Prompt so that error text remains visible. - Linux or another Unix-like system: make the script executable if necessary with
chmod +x StartServer, then launch it with./StartServer. Use the actual filename supplied by your archive. - Hosted panel: upload the complete extracted directory, then set the panel’s startup command to the supplied script or to the command specified by the host’s ATM3 installer.
The AllTheMods server scripts can check Java, fetch the configured Forge installer and install the required Minecraft libraries before launching the server. The first run can therefore take considerably longer than later starts. Keep the terminal or live log open instead of assuming that a blank period means the process has failed.

4. Accept the Minecraft EULA
The first launch normally creates eula.txt and stops before starting the world. Open that file in the server directory and change:
eula=false
to:
eula=true
Save the file without changing its name or location, then run the same startup script again. If the server repeatedly asks for the EULA, check that you edited the file in the directory from which the script is running and that the account launching Java can write to it.
5. Wait for the first world initialization
Forge must load the mod list, create configuration data and generate the world before players can connect. Watch the console or log until it reports that the server is ready for connections. Do not interrupt the process during this initialization unless it has produced a clear error and stopped.
Set RAM and JVM options safely
The supplied AllTheMods scripts keep JVM arguments and memory allocation in a configurable settings file or startup configuration. Use that mechanism instead of replacing the launcher with an unrelated command: the script may perform Java checks and Forge installation steps that a hand-written command would skip.
Set an initial and maximum heap, for example:
-Xms6G -Xmx8G
This is a starting configuration for a small group, not a measured ATM3 optimum. Choose values the physical host can sustain. If the machine has 16 GB total RAM, assigning 8 GB to Java leaves approximately 8 GB for the operating system and overhead; assigning all 16 GB can make the entire machine swap or become unresponsive.
When to change the allocation
- Increase
-Xmxin measured steps when the log reports out-of-memory errors, the Java process reaches its limit during normal play, or players consistently encounter pauses while new chunks load. - Do not increase memory merely because the server uses a large percentage of its allocation. Java can fill available heap for caching; more RAM does not automatically improve tick rate.
- If adding memory does not remove pauses, inspect CPU saturation, disk latency and a growing number of loaded chunks. A larger heap cannot fix a failing drive or a server that is overloaded by exploration.
Make the server reachable
Hosting on your own network
Run the server on a machine that remains powered on and connected whenever friends need to play. Give local players the host’s local address; remote players need the public address and whatever external port the server is configured to use.

Port-forwarding and firewall rules differ by router model, operating system and internet provider, so there is no single universal command or menu path. Consult your router and operating-system documentation for forwarding the configured Minecraft port to the host machine, and allow Java or the server process through the local firewall. Test from outside your home network rather than assuming that a connection from the host itself proves remote access.
Using a paid game host
Upload the entire extracted Server Files directory, or use the provider’s modpack installer only if it explicitly offers this ATM3 release. Confirm these capabilities before paying:
| Requirement | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Minecraft and Forge | Support for Minecraft 1.12.2 and the Forge build required by ATM3 v6.1.1. |
| Java | Java 8 selection or a documented way to call the required Java executable. |
| Memory | At least 6 GB available to the process, with additional capacity for the operating system or container overhead. |
| Files | Permission to upload and edit the complete server directory, including mods, config, scripts and world data. |
| Storage | SSD-backed space with room for backups, logs and world growth. |
| Backups | Scheduled backups and a clear restore process before a mod, configuration or world change. |
A host can remove the need to manage home-network reachability, but it does not remove version responsibility: the installed server files and every client still need the same ATM3, Minecraft and Forge combination.

Keep every client compatible
Ask each player to install exactly ATM3 v6.1.1 for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge. Avoid mixing a newer client profile with the v6.1.1 server or manually adding and removing mods to “make it work.” Compare the client’s modpack profile and the server’s archive when a connection fails.
Compatibility checks should include:
- ATM3 release number: v6.1.1 on both sides.
- Minecraft version: 1.12.2.
- Forge loader family and build.
- Mod files and versions supplied by the server pack.
- Configuration files when a mod requires synchronized settings.
Troubleshoot the common failure modes
The server closes immediately
Run java -version from the server directory and verify that the startup script calls the intended Java 8 executable. Confirm that every archive file was extracted and that you are launching the script from the directory containing its settings and libraries. Read the final console lines rather than relying on the window’s exit code; the supplied scripts’ Java and file checks often identify the missing prerequisite.
The EULA prompt never goes away
Stop the process, open the exact eula.txt generated in the active server directory, set eula=true, save it as plain text and start again. Check for accidental names such as eula.txt.txt, read-only permissions or a second server directory created by an incorrect working path.
Best Value
Out-of-memory errors or long freezes
Check the Java log and the host’s actual available RAM. Raise -Xmx only when physical memory remains available, and keep an operating-system reserve. If the machine is already swapping, reduce the allocation or move the server to a larger host. SSD storage can reduce world and chunk-loading delays, but it cannot compensate for insufficient memory or CPU capacity.

Forge or mod mismatch errors
Compare the server archive name, Minecraft 1.12.2 target, Forge build and client profile. Reinstall the client’s ATM3 v6.1.1 profile rather than copying random mods from another pack. A missing or extra mod can be enough to reject a connection.
World loading is unusually slow
Let the first startup finish its cache and library setup before judging later performance. Keep the world on an SSD when possible and monitor disk activity while exploring. The published NVMe recommendation is general AllTheMods hardware guidance, not a measured ATM3 result, so treat it as a sensible storage upgrade rather than a guaranteed fix.
Local machine or paid host?
| Decision factor | Local machine | Paid host |
|---|---|---|
| Cost pattern | Uses existing hardware; upgrades and electricity are your responsibility. | Recurring fee; hardware maintenance is handled by the provider. |
| Setup control | Full access to Java, scripts, files and firewall. | Depends on panel permissions and file-upload support. |
| Reachability | Requires a powered-on machine, firewall configuration and possibly router forwarding. | Usually provides a public endpoint, subject to the provider’s network limits. |
| Performance | Determined by your CPU, RAM and SSD/NVMe drive. | Determined by the plan’s dedicated or shared resources. |
| Recovery | You must create and test your own backups. | Check whether scheduled backups and restores are included. |
| Best fit | Operators comfortable maintaining Java, networking and files. | Groups that prefer a managed, continuously reachable server. |
Whichever option you choose, preserve the complete server directory before changing mods or configurations. A backup made while the server is stopped is the simplest restore point.
Start-up checklist
- Confirm the server is ATM3 v6.1.1, Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge-based.
- Download
ATM3-SERVER-FULL-6.1.1, not only the client profile. - Extract all archive contents into a dedicated directory.
- Verify Java with
java -version; prefer Java 8 for this legacy pack. - Run the supplied
serverstartorStartServerscript. - Edit the generated
eula.txtto seteula=true. - Wait for the ready message and keep the console or log available.
- Set a sustainable
-Xms/-Xmxpair, starting around 6–8 GB for a small group. - Configure firewall and network access, or upload the full directory to a compatible host.
- Install the identical ATM3 v6.1.1 client profile for every player.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run ATM3 with Java 17 or a newer Java release?
Java 8 is the conservative runtime for ATM3’s Minecraft 1.12.2 target. Java 11 can work in some environments; newer versions should be treated as unverified until the supplied scripts and Forge build start and load the pack correctly.
How much RAM should I give an ATM3 server?
Start a small server at 6–8 GB allocated, provided the host has enough total memory left for the operating system and Java overhead. General AllTheMods guidance suggests about 16 GB system RAM for a comfortable modded-server machine, but there is no published ATM3-specific measured optimum in the available documentation.
Why does a player get a missing-mod or mismatched-mod error?
Verify that the player uses ATM3 v6.1.1, Minecraft 1.12.2 and the same Forge family as the server. Reinstall the matching client profile instead of adding individual mods from another pack.
Does the server need to stay online all the time?
Yes, the host machine or paid server must be running and reachable whenever players want to connect. A local setup also depends on your firewall, router and internet connection.
