To loop sermon videos on YouTube Live, make the repeat happen in an encoder such as OBS—not with YouTube’s viewer-side Loop button. In OBS, enable Loop for a single Media Source, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for several sermons. Connect OBS to YouTube Live with the stream URL and key, then test the full sequence: OBS provides looping controls, but its documentation does not guarantee gap-free transitions between files.
What “loop” means for a YouTube Live stream
YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for someone watching ordinary YouTube playback. It does not turn those videos into a live broadcast. For a live loop, the encoder must play and repeat the sermon video or playlist in the outgoing feed sent to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to send that feed; OBS documents the media-source loop settings.
Choose the right OBS source
| What you want to play | OBS source | Setting | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| One sermon repeatedly | Media Source | Enable Loop | Make sure the source stays active and visible in the scene. |
| Several sermons in a set order | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist; leave shuffle off | VLC must be installed for this source to appear. Check playlist order and visibility behavior. |
OBS lists common Media Source formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. Its source settings also include restart-on-activation and close-file-when-inactive options, which can affect playback if the source is hidden or deactivated. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the documented controls.
Set up a sermon loop in OBS and YouTube Live
- Prepare the files. Store the sermon video or videos on the computer running OBS. Decide the playback order before building the scene.
- Add the source. In your OBS scene, add a Media Source for one file, or a VLC Video source and add the files in order for a playlist.
- Enable repetition. For a single Media Source, enable Loop. For VLC Video, enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle off if sermons must play in a specific order.
- Keep the video in the program output. Make sure the source is visible and not accidentally covered by a title card or other scene element. Check activation and visibility settings so the media does not stop when it should be playing.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key as a password: do not share it publicly. YouTube creates the watch page once the encoder starts sending a feed. If the stream is scheduled, wait for the preview and select Go live when ready.
- Test a complete cycle before broadcasting publicly. Watch the video through to the end and into the next play. Check sermon order, audio continuity, aspect ratio, the file boundary, and the YouTube preview.
Can you guarantee there will be no gaps?
No—not from the documented loop settings alone. OBS explains how to repeat a file or playlist, but its documentation does not promise frame-perfect, gap-free transitions between separate files. A playlist can therefore loop as configured without establishing that the handoff will be seamless. Test the actual output on the computer and scene you plan to use, paying particular attention to the audio and the boundary between videos.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For one sermon repeated indefinitely, a single Media Source is the simpler setup to manage. For a series of sermons, a VLC Video playlist gives you file ordering and shuffle control, but you should verify restart behavior and transition quality on your setup.
Keep the live stream reliable
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth 20% above the total stream bitrate. Network disruption can interrupt a stream, so do not plan to use every bit of available upload capacity.
- Test with representative content. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the actual stream. Check stream health and messages in Live Control Room.
- Preview and monitor. Preview the feed before going live and keep an eye on audio and video during the broadcast. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring.
- Use secure ingest where supported. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Confirm the selected encoder supports the protocol before changing it or other advanced settings. YouTube also documents HLS ingest for supported codec or HDR workflows; HLS uses segments and brings higher latency, so it is not a general fix for gaps between sermon files.
- Consider a backup encoder only if you need failover. YouTube’s guidance describes testing backup-encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network cable and confirming the player rolls over. A backup is an operational resilience option, not a requirement for a basic loop.
See YouTube’s live streaming tips and its encoder settings guidance for testing, monitoring, bandwidth, and ingest details.

Ending, archiving, and scheduling
You can end a live stream by stopping the encoder’s feed; YouTube’s scheduled-stream instructions also describe clicking End stream and stopping the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the current stream settings and Live Control Room behavior before relying on archiving for a long-running broadcast. YouTube also documents auto-start and auto-stop controls for encoder streams; verify how your selected stream is configured before depending on them. See YouTube’s stream settings instructions.
