To make custom hair in Roblox, create a 3D hair mesh and texture in a modeling program such as Blender or Maya, import them into Roblox Studio, then use the Accessory Fitting Tool to fit the hair to a character’s head and generate an accessory. The result can be used in your own experience; listing it for other players is a separate, optional process with its own eligibility, moderation, and fee requirements.
What you need to make Roblox hair
Custom Roblox hair is a rigid avatar accessory, not layered clothing. It attaches to the avatar’s head at an attachment point and does not deform or wrap around the body. The accessory’s appearance comes from a 3D mesh and texture; in Studio, the mesh is represented by a MeshPart inside a Model, with attachment points represented by Attachment objects. You’ll need a 3D modeling application and Roblox Studio. Roblox’s documentation names Blender and Maya as examples, and its first rigid accessory tutorial demonstrates a Blender workflow. Blender is not the only option.

1. Model the hair as a rigid accessory
Create the hair mesh and its texture in your modeling application. Design it to sit on the head and include the appropriate head attachment. Follow Roblox’s rigid accessory specifications so Studio can process and convert the model correctly.

2. Import the model into Roblox Studio
Import the model and texture using Studio’s 3D importer. Roblox supports FBX and glTF models for this workflow; consult the current rigid accessory import instructions for the required setup and specifications.
3. Fit the hair and generate the accessory
- In Studio, open the Avatar tab and launch the Accessory Fitting Tool.
- Select the imported model or its
MeshPart, then choose the rigid accessory path and type for hair. - Use the preview to adjust the hair’s position, scale, and rotation until it sits correctly on the head.
- Generate the accessory. The tool creates the accessory structure, sets its accessory type, and generates required attachment points.
The Accessory Fitting Tool documentation explains how to preview a custom model on different character bodies, animations, and accessories before generating the final object. Check how the hair behaves with varied characters and combinations, not just the model used during initial fitting.

Use the hair in a game or publish it on the Marketplace
After conversion, you can use the accessory in your own experience, save it to the Toolbox, or consider submitting it for Marketplace publication. For use in an experience, Roblox documents applying an accessory with HumanoidDescription or placing it under a character model; see the import and use guide.
Publishing to the Marketplace is different from using hair in one game. The Marketplace is where users browse and equip avatar items; the Creator Store is for assets used in game development. Roblox’s Marketplace overview links to current policies and creator requirements.

Roblox’s rigid accessory tutorial says Marketplace listing requires a Roblox Plus or Premium account, an upload fee, and a publishing advance. Requirements and costs can change, so check the current Marketplace rules and fee guidance before submitting. Publication may also involve eligibility, asset requirements, moderation, and intellectual-property rules; making a mesh does not guarantee that it will be accepted.
