Make a useful YouTube product video by answering one real viewer question, showing the product clearly in use, and explaining your honest experience. Plan close-up and wide shots, prioritize clear light and sound, edit out anything that does not help, and disclose sponsorships, free products, or affiliate links where viewers will notice them.
Start with the viewer’s question
Before filming, write down what someone watching needs to understand: how the product works, what a key feature looks like, or whether it suits a particular use. Make that question the spine of the video. Introduce the product, demonstrate the relevant details, and explain what the demonstration shows. This is a practical structure, not a universal script prescribed by YouTube.
Make claims match what you can support
Separate what you personally observed from broader claims about performance, safety, or results. The FTC’s Endorsement Guides say endorsers should not describe experience with a product they have not tried or make claims that require evidence the advertiser does not have. See the FTC’s guidance on endorsements, influencers, and reviews and its advertising and marketing guidance.
Plan the shots before you record
Build a short shot list around what the viewer needs to see, rather than filming a long description and hoping the pictures will fill the gaps. Google’s Production Guide for Effective Ads on YouTube recommends tight framing, showing the product in use, lighting the set and product, paying attention to audio early, and capturing close-ups and extra footage for alternate edits.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Establishing view: Show the product clearly in its setting so viewers can identify it and understand its scale or context.
- Useful close-ups: Capture the controls, materials, connectors, labels, or other details relevant to the question. Keep the frame tight enough to make those details visible.
- Product in use: Demonstrate the action or feature instead of relying only on narration. Include the steps a viewer needs to understand what is happening.
- Extra coverage: Record additional angles and close-ups. They give you options when trimming a section or clarifying a point during editing.
Set up picture and sound for clarity
Light the product
Use light that reveals the details you are discussing. Check the framing and reflections before recording, especially on glossy surfaces or small parts. The Google production guide recommends lighting the set and product; it does not prescribe a universal lighting kit or setup.
Make the audio intelligible
Record somewhere quiet enough that your explanation can be followed. Listen to a short test recording before filming the whole video, and adjust your position or surroundings if speech is unclear. Google’s guide advises creators to consider audio early. The right microphone depends on your recording environment and whether you need on-camera or off-camera sound; no particular model is established here.

Keep the camera steady and the framing deliberate
Frame the product so the details remain visible while you demonstrate them. A stable phone mount or tripod can help, but check that it fits your camera or phone and allows the angles you need. Avoid letting a moving shot distract from the feature being shown.
Edit around the demonstration
Arrange the footage in the order a viewer needs: establish the product, show the relevant feature or use, then explain what the demonstration does and does not prove. Keep the clips that answer the question, use close-ups where they make a detail easier to judge, and remove repeated explanations or shots that add no useful information. Extra footage gives you options for alternate edits, as Google’s production guide notes.

Disclose sponsorships, free products, and affiliate links
If you have a material connection to the product—such as payment, a free or discounted product, or an affiliate commission—make the relationship clear to viewers. The FTC’s November 2019 Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers says an endorsement disclosure should appear in the video, not just in its description. Audio and visual disclosure can help viewers notice it. For affiliate links, the FTC’s Endorsement Guides Q&A says to disclose commissions in the video and in the description near the links.

YouTube’s Creator Academy says creators featuring branded content, sponsorships, endorsements, or other commercial relationships should select the paid-promotion control in the video details. YouTube says it then displays a disclosure at the beginning of the video. See YouTube’s instructions for paid-promotion disclosures and its information for viewers about branded content. The platform label does not replace any disclosure required by law.
The FTC material is U.S. guidance. U.S. law can apply to posts made abroad when effects on U.S. consumers are reasonably foreseeable, and other countries may have their own rules. Check the requirements that apply to your location and audience; YouTube also says creators and brands are responsible for complying with local obligations when using paid promotions.
