To make Roblox UGC (user-generated avatar content), choose an item type, create it in the right 2D or 3D tools, prepare and validate it in Roblox Studio, then upload it for moderation. Creating an item and getting it published for sale are separate steps: publishing also depends on Roblox’s current account eligibility and marketplace rules.
Choose what kind of Roblox UGC to make
Roblox UGC covers multiple kinds of avatar assets, and each has its own creation and technical requirements. Start by deciding what you want your item to do; then follow the requirements for that specific category rather than treating every asset as the same kind of upload. Roblox’s Marketplace overview describes the asset types available.

Choose tools for your format
For 3D avatar assets
Roblox documents Blender and Maya as examples of third-party tools for creating 3D assets. Blender is free and open source, according to the Roblox Creator Hub Blender guide. You use Roblox Studio to import and prepare supported 3D work for the platform.

For classic clothing
Roblox describes classic clothing as a 2D path that can be created with an image editor and a browser. Check the applicable template and clothing rules before you start designing.
Prepare 3D work in Roblox Studio
Roblox Studio’s Avatar Setup can process a suitable model and add or configure avatar components when needed. Depending on the asset, these can include rigging, skinning, facial-animation data, cages, separate body parts, and accessory attachment points. Import a supported 3D format into Studio and use Avatar Setup as appropriate; it does not remove the need to meet the selected asset type’s specifications. Follow specifications and validate the asset
Check the current requirements for your item category before submitting it. Roblox’s UGC validation system checks avatar assets against platform specifications, including requirements specific to the asset category. Validation is a technical check, not a guarantee that the design will pass moderation or be published.
If Studio reports a validation issue, you may need to change the model in your 3D application, re-import it, and check it again. Do not assume an asset is ready to sell just because it looks correct in a modeling program.

Test before uploading for moderation
Test the asset in Studio before submitting it. Roblox’s publish-to-Marketplace instructions warn that uploaded assets and thumbnails cannot be edited. If you find a problem after upload, you may need to remove the asset and upload a corrected version. Submitted assets are also subject to moderation.
- Inspect how the item fits and behaves on the intended avatar or body type.
- Resolve validation warnings and confirm the final model and thumbnail are ready.
- Upload through Studio and wait for Roblox’s moderation process.
Check eligibility, fees, and publish settings
Creating a compliant asset does not automatically make you eligible to publish or keep it on sale. Roblox’s current Marketplace policy describes government ID verification or a linked parental account for uploading, and a Roblox Plus or Premium 1000/2200 membership for publishing and keeping assets on sale. The policy lists an 80 Robux upload fee and a publishing advance of 10–2500 Robux. These requirements and amounts can change, so verify the live policy—including the rules for your individual or group account—before you submit.

After moderation, configure the asset’s metadata and sale settings and publish through Creator Dashboard, following Roblox’s current publishing instructions. If you want an avatar item to be sold inside an experience, there is a separate setup: Roblox’s avatar-items-in-experiences documentation says the item creator adds the game’s Place ID as the sale location, while the game owner adds and enables the asset in the experience.
