You can make a Classic-style World of Warcraft client easier to play without replacing its identity. First confirm which client you mean by “WoW: Forever,” then change one source of friction at a time: built-in HUD and readability options, carefully chosen keybindings, and the Interact Key where it is available. Only after those checks should you consider a Classic-style add-on or extra hardware.
The restrained approach matters because “Forever” is not verified here as an official Blizzard client or mode name. It may be community shorthand for Classic Era, another Classic version, or a private description of a long-term Classic setup. The exact menus, presets and add-on compatibility can differ by client, so use the settings and patch notes shown by the game you actually launch.

Start by identifying the client and the problem
Before changing the interface, write down the exact game mode and the moment that feels difficult. Blizzard’s support page describes Classic Era as the original World of Warcraft experience and Season of Discovery as that original experience with new content. Those labels are not interchangeable, and a setting available in one client may not appear in another. Hardcore and anniversary-era clients can also receive different interface updates.
Search results and player conversations sometimes use “WoW: Forever” as a descriptive phrase rather than an official product name. Do not install an add-on or follow a guide until the launcher and character-selection screen tell you whether you are in Classic Era, Season of Discovery, Hardcore, an anniversary realm, or another client. Record the client name, region, build number if shown, and whether the annoyance occurs on every character or only one.

Turn a vague complaint into a specific task
- Missed interaction: You repeatedly have to click an NPC, object or quest element because your cursor is busy.
- Hard-to-read information: Action-bar text, resource values, quest text or target information is too small or poorly placed.
- Inconvenient layout: Important frames are far from your character, overlap one another or force long mouse travel.
- Too many inputs: A spell, item or utility action is useful but awkward to reach with the current keyboard and mouse.
- Unwanted visual change: A modern replacement makes the game clearer but no longer looks or feels like the Classic version you chose.
Choose one item as the first target. If you try to solve all five at once, you will not know which change helped or which one damaged the familiar experience.
Use the built-in options before adding anything
Blizzard’s official UI article describes a Classic preset, an adjustable HUD layout and an Interact Key, while also saying that the redesign aims to retain the original game’s “charm and personality.” The article’s wording applies to Blizzard’s general UI work, not a guarantee that every feature appears in every Classic client. Check the menus in your current build before assuming a control exists.
Make a reversible baseline
- Take a screenshot of your current HUD and note any custom keybindings.
- Change only the setting related to the problem you wrote down.
- Play long enough to encounter the original situation again, rather than judging the change from a stationary character.
- If the result is worse, restore the previous value before trying another adjustment.
Keeping a written baseline is especially useful after a patch or when switching between characters. It also protects the visual arrangement you associate with Classic, even if you later test a different preset.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAdjust the HUD only as far as needed
When the client exposes HUD editing, start with position and scale rather than a wholesale replacement. Move a frame that blocks the play area a short distance; enlarge an element that is genuinely unreadable; then stop. If the client offers an Edit Mode, HUD layout or similar control, open it from the in-game menu and save the layout under a recognizable name. Menu labels and availability vary, so follow the wording in your client rather than a path copied from a different Classic version.

Preserve the locations and visual hierarchy that make the game feel familiar. A small relocation of the player frame, target frame or action bars can reduce eye travel without turning the screen into a retail-style information wall. Do not add meters, alerts or extra panels merely because the editor makes them available; each new element competes with the world for attention.
Improve readability without redesigning the screen
Use the smallest scale increase that lets you read the affected element at your normal viewing distance. If the client provides text, contrast or display controls, adjust the one category tied to the problem and leave unrelated elements alone. A larger interface is not automatically clearer if it hides the character, terrain or combat area.
Check the result in a town, during travel and in combat. A layout that looks tidy while standing still can cover a cast bar, enemy nameplate or interaction prompt when the screen becomes busy. If readability requires moving several frames, make those moves in separate sessions so you can identify the point at which the Classic composition stops feeling comfortable.

Blizzard says the Interact Key lets you interact with NPCs and objects by pressing a key instead of relying on a mouse click. That makes it a sensible first test for players whose main friction is missed vendors, quest givers, doors or other world objects. Look for Interact or a similarly named action in the client’s Keybindings panel, assign a key that does not conflict with a movement or combat command, and test it with a harmless nearby object.

The key is an input shortcut, not an automatic replacement for every click. Confirm what your client recognizes, whether the action selects the nearest valid object, and how it behaves when several objects are close together. If it does not appear in the bindings list, do not assume an add-on can safely recreate it; use the controls documented for that client.
Build a small, consistent keybinding set
When the problem is reach rather than visibility, bind only the actions you use often. Keep movement and the most time-sensitive abilities in their familiar positions, then add utility actions around them. A simple plan might reserve nearby keys for interrupts, defensive abilities, mounts or frequently used items, with modifiers for less urgent actions.
Use the same logic on every character where possible. Consistency reduces the need to relearn a layout when you return to an older character, while leaving rarely used commands on the original bars preserves the uncluttered Classic presentation. Test a new binding in a safe area before relying on it in a dungeon, battleground or dangerous quest.

- Does it solve the stated problem? If you cannot name the action that becomes easier, do not add it.
- Does it change presentation or decisions? Moving a frame changes presentation; an alert that tells you when to act can change gameplay decisions.
- Can you undo it quickly? Prefer settings with a clear reset or an easily restored profile.
- Will it survive a client update? A built-in control generally has less maintenance than an external add-on.
Keep the screen’s center available for the world, avoid stacking overlapping panels, and resist duplicating information already provided by the default interface. If a change makes you watch the interface instead of the character and environment, it has probably gone too far for the experience you want.
Optional customization: a Classic-style add-on
After built-in settings fail to address the specific problem, a compatible add-on can provide a more coordinated layout. One current example is EraUI – Classic UI & QoL for Forever on CurseForge. Its listing separates a Classic look from quality-of-life options, which is useful conceptually: you can seek the visual baseline without automatically enabling every convenience feature.
Treat EraUI as a third-party example, not a permanent feature of Blizzard’s client. Check the listing’s supported game version, last update, changelog and comments immediately before installation. A name containing “Forever” does not establish that the add-on supports every client that players call Forever.
Install and test conservatively
- Confirm the add-on’s game-version label matches the client selected in your launcher.
- Save screenshots or notes of your current layout and keybindings.
- Install only the add-on you intend to evaluate; do not bundle several interface packs in the same test.
- Log in with a low-risk character and inspect the world, action bars, target frames and interaction prompts.
- Enable optional quality-of-life modules one at a time, leaving the Classic visual preset separate from gameplay-information modules.
- Keep a copy of the previous configuration or disable the add-on if errors, missing frames or unexpected behavior appear.
An add-on can alter more than spacing. Extra alerts, timers or indicators may tell you what to do and when, changing the decisions you make in combat. Decide explicitly whether that is acceptable before enabling those modules. If your goal is only easier reading or less mouse travel, leave decision-making aids off.

Built-in settings versus an add-on
| Choice | Visual change from Classic baseline | Setup effort | Compatibility and maintenance | Effect on gameplay decisions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in HUD placement or scale | Small to moderate; you control each adjustment | Low; use the controls exposed by the client | Usually tied to the client, but exact availability can change | Normally presentation only |
| Built-in keybindings and Interact Key | Little or none on screen | Low; bind and test one action | Depends on whether the current client exposes the option | Changes input method, not the information shown |
| Classic-style add-on such as EraUI | Moderate to substantial, depending on enabled modules | Medium; install, configure and validate | Third-party updates and client compatibility must be checked | Presentation modules may not; alerts and extra information can change decisions |
| Additional programmable mouse buttons | None unless you also change the on-screen layout | Medium; configure the device and in-game bindings | Depends on the operating system, device software and your bindings | Provides more physical inputs; it does not supply new game information |
Consider hardware only when the input is the bottleneck
An extra-button or programmable gaming mouse is an optional category, not a requirement for Classic play. It can help when your left hand is occupied, a particular key is difficult to reach, or you need a physical shortcut for an action you already chose to bind. No specific model, price, compatibility result or measured ergonomic benefit is established here, so choose based on your own hand comfort, operating system and return policy rather than a promise that more buttons will make the game easier.
Use hardware to solve a defined input problem. Map one button to one existing in-game action, avoid duplicating a critical command across several buttons, and test for accidental presses. If the difficulty is that you cannot see a resource or target, a mouse will not fix it; return to the HUD or readability settings instead.
What to do when a change breaks the interface
The setting or key is missing
Confirm the mode and client first. Interface controls can differ between Classic Era, Season of Discovery, Hardcore and anniversary realms. If a guide names a control that your binding list does not show, treat that as a client difference rather than a mistake you must work around with unverified software.

The add-on produces errors or missing frames
Disable the add-on and reload the character. If the default interface returns, check the add-on listing for a client-version update, compatibility note or known conflict before reinstalling. Re-enable only after backing up your working layout and testing on a low-risk character.
A patch changed the look or controls
Interface details are volatile. A July 22, 2026 report from Blizzard Watch described interface changes affecting Classic Era, Season of Discovery and Hardcore. Use current in-game settings and Blizzard’s current notes for exact availability instead of assuming an older screenshot still matches your client. Recheck the add-on’s compatibility after the game updates, even if the layout worked previously.
The game feels less like Classic after customization
Turn off the newest change first, not every setting at once. Restore the last layout that felt familiar, then keep only the control that solved the original annoyance. If several modules are enabled, disable them individually so you can identify whether the problem was a visual replacement, an alert, a timer or a keybinding.
A practical decision path
- Name the client: verify the exact Classic mode or other client shown by the launcher.
- Name the friction: interaction, readability, layout or physical input.
- Try one built-in control: HUD placement or scale, a keybinding, or the Interact Key when present.
- Play and evaluate: test the change in the situation that originally caused trouble.
- Stop if the problem is solved: do not add customization simply because it is available.
- Escalate carefully: evaluate a compatible Classic-style add-on, keeping visual and decision-changing modules separate.
- Add hardware last: use extra buttons only when you can identify the action they will carry.
- Recheck after updates: confirm controls, profiles and add-on compatibility whenever the client changes.
This sequence keeps the player in control. It improves access to the actions and information you already need while leaving the world, pacing and recognizable Classic presentation intact.
