Can you host a DayZ server on your Xbox?
Bohemia Interactive’s 2019 console-server FAQ says private servers are hosted by Nitrado. A DayZ forum response from November 2021 likewise says private users could not host their own console servers. In other words, the documented Xbox route is to rent a provider-hosted server, rather than run server software on an Xbox.
Do not treat PC dedicated-server setup guides as Xbox instructions. Bohemia’s server configuration documentation covers PC server configuration and launch parameters; it does not describe self-hosting a console server.
How to get a private DayZ server for Xbox
- Open the Nitrado app and look for its DayZ server rental option. Bohemia’s FAQ described renting and administering an Xbox server through the Nitrado app. The FAQ also mentioned a Nitrado web interface and an Xbox app, but those references date to 2019; confirm which tools are currently available.
- Check the current offer before renting. Confirm that the service is available for Xbox DayZ, then review the price, subscription terms, player capacity, and included management controls. Current availability, pricing, and plan limits are not established by the dated guidance cited here.
- Set up the server using the controls currently offered. The 2019 FAQ listed options including a server name, password, time settings and acceleration, maximum player count, camera mode, logs, and server messages. Treat these as historical examples, not a confirmed current feature list. The FAQ’s stated maximum of up to 100 players is likewise a 2019 figure, not a verified present-day limit.
- Ask friends to find it in DayZ’s server browser. The official console update 1.04 notes record the addition of browsing and joining private servers. Use the in-game browser to locate and join the server; follow any current provider instructions for its name, password, or other connection details.
What to verify about settings and persistence
The 2019 FAQ said servers were persistent and that the owner could decide whether to wipe one. Because that is a dated policy statement, check the current provider controls and terms rather than assuming persistence or owner-controlled wipes work the same way today. Apply the same caution to the historical settings list: verify each control in the current management interface before renting.

What are your options if you do not want Nitrado?
The official material cited here documents Nitrado as the route for private console servers; it does not establish another Xbox hosting provider or an option to host the server yourself. The 2021 forum response described Nitrado as the exclusive partner at that time, so do not assume that status or availability remains unchanged without checking current official and provider information.
