Run the regular playlist as the channel’s default program, and put viewer requests through a moderator-controlled queue before they can enter that rotation. YouTube provides live broadcasting, chat controls, and stream-health information; the official documentation cited here does not establish a built-in continuous music scheduler or automatic request-to-playlist feature. You must arrange the playout, moderation, monitoring, and music rights yourself.
Set up the broadcast and programming rules
Confirm the channel can go live
Before planning a continuous broadcast, check YouTube’s current live-stream setup requirements. YouTube’s Get started with live streaming page says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Requirements can change, so recheck the page when you are preparing to launch.
Choose a way to send the live feed
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming as well as other methods. If you use an encoder, configure it and confirm the feed in YouTube Studio before relying on it. YouTube’s documentation does not establish that a particular hardware encoder is necessary or that an encoder alone will manage unattended playlist rotation, requests, or recovery.
Think of the encoder or other supported method as the broadcast path—not the radio-programming system. You need a separate way to play the planned sequence, handle requests, and respond if the feed or YouTube stream has a problem.

Separate the default playlist from requests
Build a regular playlist with an intentional order and a plan for repetition. Then write down the request rules before opening the channel to requests:
- Which tracks are eligible, and which are excluded?
- How will a request be submitted and added to the queue?
- Are repeat requests allowed, and how long must a requester wait before submitting again?
- How will moderators handle duplicate, unavailable, or rights-restricted tracks?
- Will requests ever take priority over the regular rotation, and if so, under what conditions?
These are channel operating choices, not policies that YouTube’s cited documentation prescribes. Clear rules make it easier to protect the planned rotation and explain why a request may be delayed or declined.

Clear music rights before broadcasting
Only put music in the regular playlist or request catalog if you have the rights needed for the intended live use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; its Copyright issues with live streams guidance says a stream may be interrupted or terminated if identified content remains. Licensed music can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Ask the owner or distributor about that coordination rather than assuming a licence alone prevents a live interruption.
Test the full chain privately
Before going public, test the playlist source, broadcast method, YouTube Studio feed, and chat-moderation workflow together. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends private setup testing and using chat moderators or YouTube tools when resources allow. Confirm that a moderator can see chat and that the operator knows how to respond if the feed fails.

Run requests without losing control of the rotation
Use a moderated queue
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents live-chat message listing and moderation actions, including controls for messages and users. Those tools can support moderation, but the cited API documentation does not establish an automatic system that checks requests against your catalog and inserts approved tracks into a playlist.
- Receive the request. Give viewers a clear submission convention, such as a track and artist name in chat. Pin or display the rules if that suits the channel.
- Check eligibility. A moderator checks whether the track is in the cleared catalog and follows the channel’s rules. Do not treat a viewer’s request as proof that you have permission to broadcast it.
- Place approved requests in the queue. Apply the same priority, cooldown, and duplicate rules each time. Keep the regular playlist as the default when there are no approved requests.
- Respond without promising immediate playback. Acknowledge the request if appropriate, but explain that it may be delayed or declined. This avoids implying that every request will interrupt the current track or enter the rotation.
- Remove or moderate unsuitable chat. Use YouTube’s available chat controls when a message or user needs moderation; do not let the request queue override the channel’s chat rules.
The YouTube API reference describes the relevant chat and broadcast resources at API Reference | YouTube Live Streaming API. A fair queue and the catalog checks above remain operating procedures for your channel, not documented automatic YouTube features.

Monitor continuity and handle interruptions
Watch stream health
YouTube exposes stream status and health information intended to help identify and diagnose stream problems. The LiveStreams API reference describes those fields. They help with monitoring; they are not an uptime guarantee. Arrange for an operator or an alert path that can respond when the feed or broadcast stops being healthy.
Respond to a content warning
If YouTube flags third-party content during a live broadcast, address the warning and the underlying rights issue. YouTube says a live feed may be interrupted or terminated if identified content remains. Do not assume that restarting the same stream or replaying the same track resolves the rights problem.

Review incidents after the broadcast
If the stream is archived, review the recording and any Content ID claims. YouTube notes that archived live streams can receive claims after the live stream has ended. Record which track or technical fault was involved, then update the cleared catalog or operating rules before the next cycle.
Choose a workflow that fits your operation
Supported YouTube streaming methods differ in how you create and send the feed, but the sources cited here do not compare their suitability for unattended radio operation. Evaluate any setup against the same practical questions:
- Can it supply the continuous feed you intend to broadcast?
- How will you monitor feed health and respond to a failure?
- Does it work with your playlist source and request-handling process?
- Can moderators still apply the same eligibility, chat, and rights controls?
A YouTube-compatible live streaming encoder can be relevant to creating an encoder-based feed. It does not, by itself, establish playlist automation, request management, music rights clearance, moderation coverage, or guaranteed recovery.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that plays uploaded videos, StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud, so no computer, OBS, or home connection has to stay on. It is a playout option, not a substitute for managing viewer requests or clearing music rights: keep your request queue and moderation rules separate, and use only content you are permitted to stream.
