To manage an Xbox Game Pass subscription billed by Microsoft, sign in to Microsoft Services & subscriptions with the Microsoft account that purchased it, find the subscription, and select Manage. The options and status shown there determine whether you can turn off or restore recurring billing, change a payment method, or switch billing recurrence.
Before you change anything, check the right account and status
Use the Microsoft account associated with the subscription. If you use more than one account, a subscription may not appear when you sign in to the wrong one. On the Services & subscriptions page, select Manage beside Game Pass and read the status and date displayed for that subscription; available controls can vary by account state.
- A renewal date or upcoming-charge notice indicates recurring billing is on.
- An expiry date or a Turn on recurring billing control indicates recurring billing is off and the subscription is set to expire.
These are Microsoft’s general account-status indicators. Use the date and status on your own subscription page as the authority for when access ends or a charge may occur.
Turn off recurring billing
- Go to Services & subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy Game Pass.
- Find the Game Pass subscription and select Manage.
- Review the subscription details, then choose the recurring-billing or cancellation control offered for your account and follow the confirmation prompts.
Turning recurring billing off stops future automatic charges; it does not end access immediately. Microsoft says access continues through the expiry date shown in the account. Read the confirmation screen and verify that the account now shows an expiry date or Turn on recurring billing.

Turn recurring billing back on
In Services & subscriptions, select Manage for the subscription and choose Turn on recurring billing if that option is available. Depending on the account state, Microsoft may instead show a Renew or Resubscribe link; either may renew the subscription and enable recurring billing. Prepaid, expired, or unavailable subscriptions can present different options, so follow the controls actually shown.
Change the payment method
For a subscription with recurring billing, open Manage and select Change how you pay. Choose an available payment method, or add one if needed. If that control is missing, Microsoft says recurring billing may be off and the subscription may already be paid through its expiry. Microsoft does not allow changing the payment method for a prepaid subscription.

Change the plan or billing recurrence
Microsoft’s subscription guidance says Xbox Live and Game Pass subscriptions can be switched, but the plans and recurrence choices offered depend on availability and the account. Its documented path for changing recurrence is:
- Go to Services & subscriptions and select Manage for the subscription.
- Select Change, then Switch, if those options appear.
- Choose from the available recurrence options and follow the confirmation steps.
If Change or Switch is not available, check whether recurring billing is on. Microsoft’s guidance does not establish which plans, prices, or recurrence periods are offered to every account or region; rely on the choices shown in your account.

Cancel an Xbox subscription or confirm it is already set to expire
Microsoft’s general cancellation guidance says to sign in with the purchasing account, locate the subscription, and follow the cancellation steps shown there. That guidance links to separate Xbox-specific cancellation information, so it does not establish every screen or policy in the Xbox-specific flow.
If your subscription page shows Turn on recurring billing, Microsoft says recurring billing is already off: the subscription is set to expire on the displayed date and will not automatically charge after that date. You do not need to cancel again to stop automatic renewal.

Recurring billing versus prepaid time

A prepaid code is an optional way to add subscription time, not a requirement for turning off renewal, changing a payment method, or managing cancellation.
