Keep its email accessible, secure the account with a unique password and two-factor authentication, and take care before unlinking a platform: in supported cross-progression games, progress is associated with the Activision account, not transferred to a different one.
What your Activision account controls
Activision accounts let players manage account details and linked platform accounts. In supported crossplay-enabled games, they also enable cross-progression. Activision says progress is stored on the Activision account, so linking a platform account to a different Activision account does not move that progress. Relinking the platform account to the original Activision account can restore access to its progress and content. This does not establish that every item or purchase transfers identically across every Call of Duty game or platform; check the current guidance for your title.
Use an email address from a reliable provider that you expect to keep. Losing access to that inbox can prevent account changes and may block access to games that require an Activision account. Activision’s account-management guide explains its current settings and linking process.
How to link a platform account
- Sign in to the platform account and your Activision account in the same browser.
- Open the Activision account’s linked-accounts area and select the platform provider.
- Complete the one-time verification sent by email, then finish linking on the platform’s own site.
Activision says only one account per provider can be linked at a time. Which providers are available can vary, so use the options shown on the live linked-accounts page.

What to know before unlinking
Unlinking a platform account and attaching it to a different Activision account does not carry the original account’s progress to the new one. Activision says the progress and content are not lost: relink the platform account to the original Activision account to access them again.
Activision limits unlinking an individual platform account to once every 12 months. Enforcement status or suspicious activity may further restrict or prevent an unlink request. Check the current account page before making the change.

How to change your email or password
If you can access your account email
For a forgotten password, use Activision’s password-reset process. The reset link is sent to the email address associated with the account and expires after 24 hours. For an email-address change, Activision’s account guide says Authenticator App or SMS two-factor authentication must be enabled first, and an email may be updated only once every 12 months. Changes can be delayed, restricted or denied when suspicious or abnormal activity is detected; verify the current requirements on the account page.
If you cannot access your account email
The ordinary password-reset route will not work if you cannot receive the message at the account’s registered address. If you can still sign in through a linked platform account, Activision says that may let you reach account settings and update your password or email in some cases. The current account page also cautions that Support may be unable to change account details for privacy and security reasons.

How to protect your account
- Use a unique password that is difficult to guess; do not reuse it on other accounts.
- Enable two-factor authentication. Activision describes SMS codes and authenticator apps, including Authy, Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator.
- Keep your credentials private. Activision warns that sharing credentials can put the account at risk, and says account transfers and sales violate its Terms of Use.
- Avoid suspicious offers for COD Points or items and services promising artificial progression. Activision warns these may violate its Terms of Use and expose personal information.
Activision’s guidance is direct: “Do not buy, sell, or share accounts.” See Keeping your Activision Account Secure for its security recommendations.
As a specifically attributed example—not a measure of current account risk—Activision said in a May 30, 2024 post that Team RICOCHET identified over 110,000 accounts on the dark web parsed from reused email-and-password combinations in 2023.

How hacked-account recovery works
If you cannot log in, Activision’s recovery instructions say to create a temporary Activision account with an accessible, verifiable email address, then link a platform account that was previously attached to the compromised account. Do not make purchases on the temporary account: Activision says it becomes inaccessible after recovery and that progress or purchases cannot be transferred from it. A request can be denied if the temporary account uses a disposable or unverifiable email, or a platform account that was not originally linked to the hacked account.
Activision says recovery requests can take up to two days to process, with updates sent by email. This is the page’s current estimate, not a guaranteed service time. The flow is for suspected hacking; use the relevant support route for other problems, such as ordinary linking, bans or two-factor-authentication issues.
