What changes when you move from Shopify to WooCommerce?
You are changing both the commerce platform and the site that serves every public URL. Products, variants, images, customers, orders, pages, blog posts, coupons and reviews do not all move through the same mechanism. Shopify’s export files contain business data, while WooCommerce stores that data in WordPress and applies its own permalink, account and checkout settings.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
SEO risk comes mainly from URL changes and incomplete content transfers. A product that exists in WooCommerce can still lose search visibility if its old Shopify address returns an error, if the replacement page is substantially different, or if internal links still point to the old site. Treat the migration as two linked projects: a data transfer and a URL transition.
- Data project: copy catalog, customer records, orders and supporting content, then reconcile totals.
- SEO project: record every live Shopify URL, map it to one WooCommerce destination and publish permanent redirects before changing domains or DNS.
- Operations project: test checkout, tax, shipping, payment, email and account recovery before customers arrive.
Prepare a controlled migration
Back up both sides
Before installing an importer or changing DNS, make a complete backup of the WordPress database and files for the WooCommerce site. Download Shopify product exports, customer data and order reports as separate files and keep the originals unchanged. Store a second copy outside the server so a failed import can be compared with the source data.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Record the date and time of each export. Orders and customers can change while you plan the move; the timestamps let you identify transactions created after the first export and perform a final delta export immediately before cutover.
Create a migration inventory
Make a spreadsheet with a row for every data type and a named owner for checking it. Include products and variants, collections, customers, orders, pages, blog posts, coupons, reviews, images, tax settings, shipping methods, payment settings and email templates. Mark whether each item will be imported by API, imported by CSV, rebuilt manually or intentionally retired.
Recommended Free Tools
Keep Shopify available during preparation. Do not delete products or close the store until the WooCommerce copy, redirects and order checks are complete.
Build the URL map before exporting
Use a crawler, your analytics landing-page report and your XML sitemap to list every Shopify URL that can receive traffic or links. At minimum, include product pages, collection pages, regular pages and blog articles. Record the HTTP status, canonical URL and the intended WooCommerce destination in the same sheet.
Shopify commonly exposes paths such as:
/products/{handle}/collections/{handle}/pages/{handle}/blogs/{blog}/{handle}
The WooCommerce permalink structure may be different. Map each old address to the closest equivalent new page, not automatically to the home page. A discontinued product can redirect to a relevant replacement or category; do not send unrelated URLs to a generic destination.
Shopify’s migration guidance calls for a complete one-to-one map and permanent 301 redirects rather than temporary 302 redirects. Cart and checkout paths cannot be redirected one-to-one as ordinary content pages, so leave those functions to the new store.

Export your Shopify data
Products
- In Shopify admin, open Products.
- Select Export.
- Choose all products, selected products or a filtered group.
- Export the file in the format offered by Shopify and retain the original.
Check the export for titles, handles, descriptions, variants, prices, stock values, image references, product types, tags and collection assignments. Compare the number of products and variants with the admin totals before importing.
Customers
- Open Customers in Shopify admin.
- Choose Export.
- Export all customers or the selected/filtered group.
The export includes names, email addresses, addresses and tags. Treat email as the key used to reconcile accounts, but check duplicate addresses and customers with multiple addresses before import.
Orders
- Open Orders.
- Choose Export.
- Select the complete historical range or a defined date range.
Keep the date range visible in the filename. If the store continues taking orders during preparation, plan a final export for the interval between the first export and the cutover.
Content and supporting records
List pages, blogs, coupons and reviews separately. The Shopify API-based migrators can handle more than the three core exports, but availability depends on the selected product and its current version. Metafields, app-managed records and subscriptions generally require separate treatment; do not assume they are represented in a standard product CSV.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose an import route
There are four practical routes. The best choice depends on data volume, how much custom content you have and whether you need a repeatable API transfer.
| Route | What it does | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Migrate and Import Shopify to WooCommerce | Official WooCommerce extension; connects to Shopify with API credentials, lets you select data types and starts a monitored migration. | Stores wanting a guided API transfer inside WordPress. | Confirm current compatibility and price before purchase; a $79-per-year price has been reported but is not confirmed on the product page. |
| Shopify Data Migrator | WooCommerce Marketplace product that imports products, customers, orders, pages, blogs, coupons and reviews through the Shopify API; it can generate or export redirect records. | Stores moving catalog plus broader content in one tool. | Review its current feature list and pricing; vendor documentation may describe ideal rather than your exact data structure. |
| S2W (Import Shopify to WooCommerce) | A plugin listed in the WordPress plugin directory for importing Shopify data. | Sites that prefer a directory-installed plugin. | Check supported entities, limits and update date before relying on it for a production move. |
| Manual CSV | WooCommerce’s native product importer maps columns into products. Separate importer plugins are needed for users and orders. | Small catalogs or teams that need column-level control. | More manual mapping, reconciliation and media handling; customer and order imports are not covered by the native product importer. |
Install any plugin on a staging site first. Read its current requirements, API permissions, supported Shopify fields and retry behavior. Competing tools vary, and several comparison pages are published by companies that sell the tools they describe, so compare features and total cost rather than selecting by a single feature list.

Import in the order that preserves relationships
Use this sequence whether you choose the official extension, another API migrator or separate CSV tools:
- Customers first. Create WordPress/WooCommerce user records so later orders have accounts to reference.
- Products second. Import products, variants, images, categories and stock, then check that each product has the intended slug.
- Orders last. Import historical orders after products and customers exist, then inspect the links between order lines and customer accounts.
Using the official API extension
- In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New and install the current Migrate and Import Shopify to WooCommerce extension.
- Create the Shopify API credentials requested by the extension, granting only the access required for the selected data.
- Connect the extension to the Shopify store and choose the data types to migrate.
- Start with a small, representative selection rather than the entire catalog.
- Click Start Migration and monitor the progress screen for errors, skipped records and retry instructions.
- Review the imported records, correct mappings and repeat the pilot before running the full data set.
Keep a copy of the plugin log and the Shopify export used for each run. If you rerun an import, determine whether the tool updates existing records or creates duplicates; do not assume a second run is idempotent.
Using CSV files
For products, open WooCommerce > Products > Import, upload the Shopify product file and use Column Mapping to assign each source column to the WooCommerce field. Normalize categories, tax classes, variant attributes and image URLs before importing. Validate a handful of variable products, not just simple products, because a mis-mapped attribute can turn every variant into a separate item.
WooCommerce’s native importer handles products, not complete customer and order history. Use a separate customer importer such as Import Users from CSV and a separate order tool such as Order Export & Order Import for WooCommerce only after confirming that their current versions support your fields. Preserve the Shopify order number in a dedicated field or note if the importer offers one, so support staff can trace a historical order.
Configure WooCommerce before inviting buyers
Set the new site’s currency, tax behavior, shipping zones, payment gateways, transactional email sender and account options before testing orders. Recreate collection logic as WooCommerce categories or tags and verify that product visibility and stock status match the Shopify source.
Do not copy Shopify passwords: Shopify does not export them for security reasons. Import the customer profile and address data, then provide a password-reset path in WordPress. Explain the reset in the transition email and make sure the reset email uses a monitored sending address.

Publish and test 301 redirects
Create redirects after WooCommerce permalinks and content slugs are final. A redirect rule should take the exact old path to its matching new path without an intermediate chain.
| Shopify source pattern | Typical WooCommerce destination | Check |
|---|---|---|
/products/handle |
The imported product URL | Product title, variant options, price and stock are correct. |
/collections/name |
The matching WooCommerce category archive | Products and category copy are present. |
/pages/handle |
The equivalent WordPress page | Forms, images and internal links work. |
/blogs/blog/handle |
The matching blog post | Author, date, media and canonical URL are correct. |
Shopify Data Migrator can generate redirect records for these storefront paths or export a CSV for redirect tools such as Redirection, Yoast or Rank Math. If you use another method, import the same map and check for duplicate rules.
Test every redirect class manually by entering old URLs in a browser. Confirm one 301 response, the correct destination and no redirect loop. After launch, review Google Search Console for crawl errors, unexpected 404s and pages that Google associates with the wrong canonical URL.
Reconcile customers, products and orders
Customer checks
- Compare total customer counts and investigate duplicate email addresses.
- Open records with multiple addresses, tags or special tax information.
- Send a controlled password-reset test to an internal account.
Product checks
- Compare product and variant totals with the Shopify export.
- Open simple and variable products on desktop and mobile.
- Test image galleries, downloadable files if applicable, stock status, sale prices and category navigation.
- Check that imported slugs match the redirect map.
Order checks
Payment information, shipping methods and coupon data may not map accurately between platforms. Customer-to-order relationships can also break. Select orders from different years, payment methods, shipping zones, discount types, refunds and fulfillment states, then compare line items, totals, taxes, addresses and status with Shopify reports.
Historical orders are records for support and reporting; do not assume they can be charged again or that a stored payment token transferred. Process a new low-value test order through the WooCommerce gateway and verify confirmation email, stock reduction, fulfillment notification and refund workflow.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Run a pilot, then a full rehearsal
- Create a staging copy of WordPress and connect it to a test or restricted Shopify credential.
- Import a small sample containing simple products, variable products, customers and orders.
- Check field mapping, images, slugs, account links, order totals and logs.
- Apply the redirect map in staging and test representative old URLs.
- Document corrections and rerun the pilot until the output is repeatable.
- Schedule the full import during a low-traffic period and preserve the source exports.
A pilot is especially important when a tool’s documentation does not state how it handles custom fields, app-generated data or duplicate records. Treat skipped rows as failures to investigate, not as harmless warnings.

Cut over with a short, controlled freeze
- Announce the switch window and explain that customers will create a new password.
- Temporarily password-protect or deactivate Shopify checkout so new orders cannot arrive during the final copy.
- Export the final Shopify orders, customers and any products changed since the initial export.
- Import the delta data and reconcile it against the first run.
- Enable WooCommerce payment, shipping, tax and email settings.
- Publish the tested 301 redirects and confirm the new robots, sitemap and canonical settings.
- Update DNS only after the new storefront loads correctly on the intended domain and checkout succeeds.
- Place a real test order, issue a test refund if your gateway permits it, and then open the store to customers.
Keep Shopify read-only or password-protected for a defined retention period so support staff can consult historical records. Do not delete the source until order, tax and customer-retention obligations have been addressed.
Post-launch monitoring and recovery
For the first days after launch, watch payment failures, abandoned checkouts, password-reset requests, shipping calculations, stock discrepancies and support tickets about missing orders. Review server logs and Google Search Console for redirect chains and 404s. Compare daily WooCommerce order totals with the previous Shopify report until the numbers stabilize.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf a critical error appears, switch checkout back to the previously validated environment only if you can prevent duplicate orders, record the exact time of the rollback and reconcile every order created during the transition. Fix the mapping or configuration on staging, repeat the pilot, then schedule another cutover rather than repeatedly changing production data.
Migration checklist
- WordPress files and database backed up; Shopify exports stored in original form.
- All product, collection, page and blog URLs inventoried.
- Customers, products and orders assigned to the correct import method.
- Customer import completed before order import.
- Passwords and account-reset messaging tested.
- Product counts, variants, images, prices and stock reconciled.
- Representative historical orders checked for totals, addresses, discounts and status.
- One-to-one 301 map loaded; old URLs tested without loops.
- Payment, tax, shipping, email, checkout and refund workflows tested.
- Small pilot passed before full migration.
- Final delta export completed during the cutover freeze.
- DNS changed only after the WooCommerce storefront and checkout passed.
- Search Console, analytics, error logs and customer support monitored after launch.
What the migration tools do not guarantee
No importer can make Shopify-specific app data, metafields or subscriptions automatically equivalent to WooCommerce features without field-by-field planning. Tool availability, supported fields, plugin versions and pricing change, so confirm those details on the product’s current documentation immediately before the move. The most reliable result comes from treating the importer as a transfer assistant and using your exports, URL map and reconciliation checks as the source of truth.
The Bottom Line
A Shopify-to-WooCommerce move is dependable when you preserve the source, import customers before products and orders, verify every important record, and launch only after a complete 301 map and checkout rehearsal pass. The importer saves time; the URL inventory and reconciliation work are what protect your customers, orders and search visibility.
