Use a second computer’s browser to open the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then open the YouTube watch page separately. The Control Room shows whether YouTube is receiving the stream and provides status and real-time metrics; the watch page shows what viewers can actually see and hear. You do not need a second Wirecast installation just to check the YouTube output.
Monitor the YouTube stream from a second computer
- Prepare the YouTube event and test in advance. Set up the encoder event ahead of the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with audio and video activity similar to the planned stream, and checking that your upload bitrate suits your internet connection. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and encoder settings guidance.
- Start Wirecast’s encoder output on the production computer. Confirm that the event appears in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and check its preview before starting the stream, as YouTube recommends.
- On the remote computer, open YouTube Studio and the event’s Live Control Room. Check the stream-status message and available real-time metrics. YouTube’s dashboard can show status and metrics such as concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, average view duration, and reactions. If it reports an error, read the accompanying instructions. Details are in YouTube’s guide to live-stream metrics.
- Open the event’s YouTube watch page in a separate tab or browser. This is the viewer-side check: confirm that the stream is accessible and that picture and sound are right. YouTube recommends verifying access through the channel and watch pages and checking on mobile devices too.
- Keep checking both views while live. YouTube advises: “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” Control Room status and the watch-page experience are complementary checks, not substitutes for each other.
What each monitoring option tells you

When to use Remote Desktop Presenter
If the remote operator needs to see the Wirecast computer’s desktop—not just the YouTube broadcast—Telestream’s Remote Desktop Presenter is a separate option. Telestream describes it as a free, cross-platform app for capturing screens from other computers on a local area network, and Wirecast’s Windows 16.3 user guide describes using it to bring a computer’s desktop into Wirecast as a source. This is a production-source workflow, not a way to watch the published YouTube stream. The cited Telestream material establishes local-area-network capture; it does not establish internet-wide access without additional configuration. For remote monitoring of YouTube output, use the Control Room and watch page instead.
Allow for live-stream latency
The watch page will usually trail what is happening on the Wirecast computer. YouTube says most viewers of a low-latency stream experience latency under 10 seconds, while most viewers of an ultra-low-latency stream experience latency under five seconds. Ultra-low latency can increase buffering; normal latency offers the highest viewer quality and lowest buffering when interaction is not needed. These are approximate viewer experiences, not a promise that every remote check will have the same delay. See YouTube’s explanation of live-stream latency. Don’t treat a short playback delay as proof that the encoder has failed.

Troubleshoot common monitoring problems
- Live Control Room reports a stream problem: Use its status error and instructions as the first ingest-side clue. Confirm that Wirecast is sending to the intended YouTube event.
- Control Room looks healthy, but playback is wrong: Investigate the viewer-facing output. Check sound and picture on the watch page rather than relying on dashboard status alone.
- The watch page appears behind Wirecast: Account for the selected latency mode and playback buffering before treating the delay as a fault.
- The event cannot be viewed on the remote device: Check the event’s access and visibility, use the correct watch-page URL, and verify accessibility from the channel or another suitable device, as YouTube’s event checklist recommends.
- You need to inspect the production desktop: Remote Desktop Presenter’s documented capture is over a local network. The cited instructions do not establish how to route it securely over the public internet.
Keep the YouTube stream key private. YouTube’s stream settings allow a key to be reset if it is compromised; consult the stream-status and settings guidance in YouTube Help.
