Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteMonitor the machine that runs your encoder, then cross-check OBS and YouTube’s live diagnostics. OVHcloud provider monitoring, OBS dropped-frame counters, and YouTube stream health measure different things: a host can be reachable while its CPU is overloaded or its upload path cannot sustain the configured bitrate.
First, identify where the encoder runs
CPU and outgoing stream traffic are generated where the encoder runs. If OBS is running on an OVHcloud server, monitor that server’s CPU and network activity. If OBS is on your local computer and OVHcloud hosts only another part of the setup, monitor the local computer for encoding and upload behavior, and use OVHcloud monitoring only for the hosted service’s role.
Also identify the OVHcloud product: Web Hosting, VPS, or Dedicated Server. The documented Web Hosting graphs described below do not automatically apply to VPS or Dedicated Servers. Likewise, provider reachability monitoring for a dedicated server is not a view into OBS workload. Consult the guidance for your actual service and operating system rather than transferring panel instructions across products.
What each monitoring layer tells you
| Layer | Useful for | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| OVHcloud service or provider monitoring | Whether the host or service responds, and whether product-specific resource graphs are available. | Dedicated-server reachability monitoring does not show whether OBS is overloaded or whether the encoder’s upload path can sustain its bitrate. Web Hosting graphs are specific to that product. OVHcloud dedicated-server monitoring |
| Operating-system or instance metrics | CPU and network activity on the machine being measured. | Host-level usage alone does not prove that the stream is arriving at YouTube in good condition. |
| OBS diagnostics | Encoder/rendering indicators and dropped frames on the encoder-to-ingest connection. | Dropped frames do not, by themselves, identify which network operator or device is responsible. OBS stream connection troubleshooting |
| YouTube Live Control Room | Stream health and messages as YouTube receives the broadcast. | A health warning does not alone isolate CPU, local network, server, or route as the cause. YouTube encoder settings and live guidance |
Set up a useful baseline before going live
- Choose a representative test. Use the resolution, frame rate, scene complexity, audio, and motion expected during the actual stream. A static scene can conceal problems that appear with motion or more demanding scenes.
- Check upload capacity. Run an upload speed test from the encoder machine and compare sustained capacity with the bitrate you plan to send. A general speed-test result is not a guarantee of stable delivery to YouTube’s ingest server.
- Record the configuration. Note the encoder, bitrate, resolution, and frame rate alongside CPU and network behavior during the test. This makes later comparisons meaningful when you change one setting.
- Observe the complete test in both tools. Watch OBS Statistics and YouTube Live Control Room stream health and messages. YouTube specifically advises monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event.
There is no universal CPU saturation threshold or upload-headroom percentage that fits every codec, encoder preset, scene, server, and connection. Use the baseline from the actual machine and workload rather than treating one generic cutoff as a guarantee.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the stream settings against YouTube’s guidance
YouTube’s published encoder settings specify bitrate recommendations by resolution, frame rate, and codec. These are platform recommendations, not proof that a particular OVHcloud instance or network path can sustain the stream.
| Example from YouTube’s settings | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p, 30 fps, H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p, 30 fps, AV1 or H.265 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p, 30 fps, H.264 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 360p, 30 fps, H.264 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
The figures are YouTube’s published values for the listed codec and format combinations; check the current YouTube encoder-settings page for the full table and any updated requirements. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS as streaming protocols, constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, a recommended two-second keyframe frequency (not exceeding four seconds), and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection in transit to and through Google’s servers.

Monitor during the stream
On the encoder machine
Use the operating system’s or instance’s metrics to observe CPU and network activity on the machine that actually runs OBS or another encoder. Watch for changes that coincide with stutters, quality warnings, or dropped frames. If OBS is local, OVHcloud server graphs cannot substitute for local machine metrics.
In OBS
Open OBS’s Statistics view and watch dropped frames along with the other relevant counters. OBS explains that an increasing “Dropped frames” counter with a yellow or red connection indicator means the connection to the ingest server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. This points to a network-delivery problem on the path to ingest; it is not proof that OVHcloud itself is at fault.

In YouTube Live Control Room
Review stream health and messages throughout the event. Treat these as receiving-platform diagnostics: they confirm how YouTube is seeing the incoming stream, but should be read alongside encoder and host metrics to locate the likely layer.
Diagnose symptoms by layer
- CPU is heavily loaded, or OBS indicates encoding or renderer lag: investigate encoder settings, scene workload, and whether hardware encoding is available on the encoder machine. The cited guidance does not establish a universal CPU limit or a verified hardware recommendation.
- OBS dropped frames increase: compare the configured bitrate with sustained upload capacity and assess connection stability to the ingest server. OBS describes this symptom as an unstable connection or one that cannot keep up with the set bitrate.
- The host is unreachable or provider monitoring alerts: treat this as an availability or reachability incident. Check status and monitoring information for the specific OVHcloud service; do not infer an OBS encoding problem from a reachability alert alone.
- You use OVHcloud Web Hosting: OVHcloud documents infrastructure statistics in the service’s Control Panel under the Statistics and logs tab. Its documented graphs include CPU usage, outgoing connections, resource-limit events, and other statistics. This navigation applies to Web Hosting guidance, not by assumption to VPS or Dedicated Server interfaces. See OVHcloud Web Hosting statistics.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video live on a YouTube channel rather than troubleshoot an OBS encoder, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
