To multistream, send your live broadcast to each platform either as separate outputs from your computer or as one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it. Before going live, check each platform’s account requirements and rules, add up the bitrates of locally sent outputs, and test your full setup under realistic conditions. If Twitch is one of your destinations, its simulcasting rules also govern how you treat the Twitch audience and what third-party tools you may use.
Choose how your stream will reach each platform
There are two common approaches: send a separate output from a local encoder for each destination, or send one output to a cloud relay and let the relay distribute it. The right choice depends on your computer, upload capacity, number of destinations, and how much control you need over each output. YouTube describes both approaches in its guide to streaming across platforms.
| Approach | When it can fit | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder with separate outputs | You want detailed control of each output and have enough computer capacity and upload headroom. | Each separately sent output adds upload demand; multiple encodes can add computer load. Destination settings and available quality options may differ. |
| Cloud multistream relay | You want a simpler distribution setup, have a less capable computer, or plan to send to more than two channels. | You depend on a third-party service, so check its supported destinations, plan limits, and controls for destination-specific settings. |
YouTube describes a relay as receiving one high-quality feed and distributing it to multiple destinations. Restream likewise says its service replicates a single incoming stream, so creator-side upload does not increase for each destination when using that relay. Service capabilities and limits are specific to each provider. Restream’s bandwidth explanation is vendor guidance, not a universal bandwidth standard.
Check each platform before configuring the stream
Do not assume one destination’s approval or settings cover the others. Confirm that every account can go live, obtain its own ingest details, and check the destination’s current technical requirements.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- YouTube: The channel must be verified and live streaming enabled. YouTube says initial live-stream activation can take at least 24 hours after the first request. Check the current requirements and setup in its simulstreaming help page.
- Other destinations: Make sure the account is active and in good standing, and determine whether that platform requires a stream key, an RTMP server URL, or both. Enter each destination’s own ingest details in the encoder or relay.
- Agreements: Review any partner, event, or promotional agreement for exclusivity or other restrictions, in addition to public platform rules.
Calculate bandwidth for a local multistream
When your computer sends separate outputs directly, add the target bitrate of every output. YouTube’s example uses 6 Mbps for one stream and 4 Mbps for another, for a combined target of 10 Mbps. For that example, YouTube recommends upload capacity of about 1.5 to 2 times the combined target—15–20 Mbps—for stability, particularly on a shared connection. This is YouTube’s planning recommendation and example, not a universal bitrate setting for every platform.
- Write down the planned bitrate for each locally transmitted destination.
- Add those bitrates to find the combined target. For example, 6 Mbps + 4 Mbps = 10 Mbps.
- Use YouTube’s 1.5–2× headroom guidance as a planning check. For the 10 Mbps example, that means 15–20 Mbps of upload capacity.
- Test during a realistic stream, including audio, video, and typical movement; an idle speed test alone does not establish sustained performance.
- While live, watch the stream-health indicators in the relevant platform dashboard and adjust if the connection or stream is unstable.
A speed test is not a guarantee of sustained upload performance. Other people and devices sharing the connection can affect available capacity. For a relay, the creator sends one incoming feed rather than a separate feed per destination. Restream’s own guidance, dated July 15, 2024, gives 10 Mbps as its minimum and 25 Mbps or higher as its recommendation, especially for Full HD streams; treat those as Restream’s figures, not a neutral standard for all relay services.

Set up a local multistream with OBS or another encoder
The exact controls differ among encoders and versions. The general workflow is to create an output for each destination, use that destination’s ingest information, and ensure the computer and connection can sustain all outputs at once. OBS’s explanation of transcoding describes how a platform may create alternate feeds at different resolutions, frame rates, and bitrates; availability depends on the platform. Its page dates from 2021, so it should not be used to infer current platform-specific quality entitlements.
- Enable live streaming at every destination. Complete account verification and any platform-specific activation before the day of the broadcast.
- Collect destination ingest details. For each service, find the current server or RTMP URL and stream key in that platform’s live setup. Treat stream keys as private credentials; do not post them or include them in a public recording.
- Configure an output for each platform. Enter the appropriate destination details in your encoder or multistream workflow. If using an OBS-based workflow, Restream provides a vendor-specific OBS connection guide; interface labels and service capabilities may change.
- Set output quality for the destinations. Choose bitrates and other settings that meet each platform’s current ingest requirements. If outputs have different settings, verify that the encoder or relay can provide those destination-specific outputs.
- Check local capacity. Add the bitrates for outputs sent directly from the computer, then verify that the computer can encode them and the connection has upload headroom.
- Run a realistic test. Include your normal audio, video, and on-screen movement. Check each destination’s preview and stream-health indicators before relying on the setup for a full broadcast.
Follow Twitch’s simulcasting rules
Twitch’s Terms of Service section 11 permits simultaneous streaming to another live platform only when its listed conditions are met. In practice, ensure the Twitch audience’s experience is at least as good as the experience on the other service, including your engagement with Twitch chat; do not direct viewers away from Twitch to the concurrent broadcast; and do not use third-party services to combine activity from other platforms into the Twitch stream. Read the current Twitch Terms of Service for the full wording.

Twitch’s simulcasting guidelines FAQ distinguishes identifying that you are present elsewhere from actively encouraging viewers to leave Twitch for a concurrent stream. The public guidance does not settle obligations under an individual contract, so review any partner, event, or promotional agreement that applies to you.
Decide between a direct setup and a relay
- Choose local outputs if control over each output is important and your machine and upload connection can handle the combined workload.
- Consider a cloud relay if distributing one incoming feed is simpler for your setup or you plan to reach several destinations. Compare current destination support, service limits, and costs before choosing one.
- Check quality expectations individually. Transcoding and alternate resolutions or frame rates depend on the destination platform; do not assume every service provides the same viewer choices.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a different option for a different job: it keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube continuously, rather than sending a live camera or gameplay broadcast to several platforms at once. The setup is three steps: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo runs the playback in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does multistreaming require extra bandwidth?
With separate outputs sent from your computer, yes: add the target bitrates for those outputs. A cloud relay distributes one incoming feed, so it does not add creator-side upload demand per destination in the same way.
