To open Otto’s room in The Outer Worlds 2, find the hidden entrance by the Rift Anomaly at Free Market Station, reach the 11-lever panel, then use the N-Ray Scanner to trace the wires and connect the three power paths. A reported switch sequence is 3, 2, 5, 8; 7, 6, 1; 11, 10, 9, 4, but guides warn that the order may vary. If you have Engineering 5, Game8 reports that you can bypass the puzzle instead.
Where to find Otto’s room
- Go to the Rift Anomaly area near the wreckage of the ACS Free Market at Free Market Station.
- Look for an opening in the nearby wall. Crouch through it and follow the passage to a ladder.
- Climb the ladder to reach the panel of 11 levers.

How to solve the 11-lever puzzle
Reveal the wiring with the N-Ray Scanner
The intended method is to use the N-Ray Scanner to see wires hidden behind the wall. Follow the three power sources and route each path to the door without crossing the other paths. The scanner is found at the N-Ray Range in Golden Ridge during the main quest Discrete Mathematics, according to Nightly Gaming Binge’s walkthrough.

- Path 1: 3, 2, 5, 8
- Path 2: 7, 6, 1
- Path 3: 11, 10, 9, 4
These are reported switch orders, not a guaranteed universal code. PC Gamer’s guide cautions that memorized orders may vary by player. If the sequence does not open the door, use the scanner to trace the wiring in your game and follow the visible routes.
Can you bypass the puzzle?
Game8 reports that Engineering 5 lets you bypass the puzzle and reach Otto. That is a separate option from using the N-Ray Scanner: the scanner helps solve the wiring, while the skill check skips it. Game8 also notes that bypassing may mean missing rewards from Otto’s safe.

Once the door is open, you can read Otto’s Soot-Smeared Journal, which is relevant to the side quest The Last Voyage of the ACS Free Market. Game8’s puzzle guide also lists a Triple Barrel Shotgun on top of the safe and an Advanced Decryption Key and Bit Cartridges inside it. Nightly Gaming Binge describes taking information from the journal back to Otto as a way to continue the quest’s information-gathering portion.
