Start by identifying which PC release you have, choose your display resolution and performance target, then tune demanding effects one at a time in a representative game scene.
Check which version of The Witcher 3 you have
Version matters because the graphics options have changed. The current PC baseline is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, announced as available on September 29, 2026. Its listed features include path tracing, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.0. Do not apply Remastered advice uncritically to the December 2022 Next-Gen Update. That earlier version introduced ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion, PC ray-traced reflections and shadows, FSR 2.1, Ultra+ settings, and DLSS 3 on compatible hardware. The developer’s 2022 change list describes that separate baseline.
How to optimize The Witcher 3 graphics settings
- Confirm the installed version and update it. Check the game’s version, install the update you intend to play, and use a current graphics driver recommended by the game’s official release notes.
- Choose your output resolution and frame-rate target first. Higher output resolution can significantly reduce frame rate, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s PC requirements and performance guidance. Decide what resolution you want to play at before judging a preset.
- Pick a preset as a starting point. A preset gives you a baseline; it is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate on your PC.
- Change one demanding feature at a time. Evaluate path tracing or ray tracing against your visual preference and performance target. Avoid changing several effects at once, so you can tell which adjustment caused a change.
- Test in a representative scene. Check a location and gameplay situation you expect to play. CD PROJEKT RED notes that performance varies with scene, hardware, graphics settings, and resolution, so a single scene may not predict performance everywhere.
- Use an upscaler supported by your GPU and game version. Compare the result at your chosen resolution and target rather than assuming an option will be available or behave the same on every PC.
Choose upscaling and frame generation by compatibility
The Remastered notes list several vendor-specific options, but availability depends on the game version and hardware. For this release, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2 is supported on Radeon RX 7000-series and newer GPUs; on unsupported GPUs, the game uses FSR 2 instead. The notes also list Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency. NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction is among the listed Remastered features. These are version-specific compatibility statements, not a promise that every option appears on every PC. Check the current official release notes and the options shown in your game.

Upscaling and frame generation affect how performance figures should be interpreted. CD PROJEKT RED says its published ray-tracing and path-tracing performance tests used automatic upscaling; the path-tracing preset also had frame generation enabled. Those results are not native-resolution, frame-generation-off comparisons. The official performance guidance also cautions that actual performance varies by scene and system configuration. Do not assume a published test setup will match your PC.

CD PROJEKT RED’s current PC requirements page lists SSD storage as required. That is a compatibility requirement; it is not evidence that an SSD by itself improves graphics quality or frame rate. The detailed tier-by-tier CPU and GPU figures are not available in the page’s text, so consult the current requirements page directly rather than relying on unverified thresholds.
