Start by auditing and routing the cables you already have; buy organizers only after you know which leads need to travel together and where they need to go. For most gaming desks, a tidy, maintainable route runs behind the monitor, beneath the desk, and down one desk leg toward the outlet.
1. Audit the cables before buying organizers
Turn off and unplug the equipment before rearranging connections. Identify each cable, what it connects, and whether it is still needed. A gaming setup may include PC and monitor power, GPU power leads, display cables, wired keyboard and mouse leads, headset or audio connections, Ethernet, and charging cables for accessories.
Separate active cables from unused, duplicate, or unnecessarily long ones. Remove what you no longer need, and note which remaining leads are difficult to identify or likely to be changed. Sorting first can reduce clutter without adding another accessory.
2. Plan a route that stays accessible
Choose the cable paths before attaching clips or filling a tray. Group only cables that follow the same route: leads for the monitor and nearby peripherals can travel together toward the back of the desk, while cables that branch to different devices should separate where needed. - Gather cables behind the monitor or toward the back edge of the desk.
- Route shared runs horizontally beneath the desk, keeping plugs and frequently used connections reachable.
- Guide the run down a desk leg toward the outlet, with enough slack to avoid pulling on connectors.
- Reconnect devices and check that the display, PC, and peripherals work and that no cable obstructs access.
For an adjustable or sit-stand desk, move it through its full range after routing. Check that cables do not snag, become taut, or get pinched. Leave enough slack for normal movement, but avoid loose loops that can catch on a chair or equipment.
3. Choose organizers by the job they do

These accessories solve different problems rather than replacing one another: clips guide a cable, ties gather a bundle, sleeves cover a shared run, and trays contain larger under-desk groups. Lenovo cautions against overtightening cable ties because pressure can damage cables; its cable-management guidance also discusses ways to organize a gaming setup.

4. Keep bundles easy to identify and change
Label both ends of a cable if it is hard to distinguish or you expect to unplug it later. This is especially useful when several similar leads run behind a PC or monitor. Keep plugs and connections you use regularly accessible rather than sealing them inside a tight bundle or hiding them behind a fixed object.
Before securing a shared run, check that each cable can reach its device without tension. Keep power and signal cables grouped only where their routes genuinely coincide; let branches separate toward their devices instead of forcing everything into one bundle.

5. Consider built-in cable features when choosing a desk
Some gaming desks have grommets, channels, or trays that provide places to route and contain cables. Their location and included accessories vary by model and configuration, so compare the feature layout with your actual equipment and cable routes. Lenovo’s gaming desk guidance covers features to evaluate. CORSAIR’s Platform Series desk quickstart guide illustrates integrated channels, a wire-management tray, and hook-and-loop ties; it notes that a power-strip accessory is sold separately in some configurations.
