Turn the Nintendo Switch 2 off, put it in a well-fitting carrying case, and keep loose items from pressing against or rubbing the screen. For Nintendo’s dedicated Carrying Case & Screen Protector, store the console with Joy-Con 2 attached, as its instructions specify. Pack dock and TV-play gear only in a case designed to hold them, and keep the system away from liquids, force, and temperature extremes.
Pack the console in this order
- Turn it off. Nintendo’s instructions for its Carrying Case & Screen Protector say: “Do not leave the console switched on while it is stored in the carrying case.” (Nintendo carrying-case instructions)
- Check the screen and case interior. Remove grit before putting the system away. The dedicated case bundle includes a cleaning cloth; Nintendo’s leaflet describes using it to clean fingerprints and smudges. It is for cleaning, not a guarantee against scratches.
- Store the controllers according to the case design. For Nintendo’s dedicated case, attach Joy-Con 2 to the console: “Make sure that the Joy-Con™ 2 controllers are attached to the console (BEE-001) when it is stored in the carrying case.” If another case is designed for detached controllers, use its designated recesses or compartments instead. - Secure small items separately. Put game cards and accessories in their holders or pockets. Don’t place a hard, loose item where it can rub against or press on the screen. This is practical packing advice based on case layouts and Nintendo’s warning against excessive force, not a tested loading protocol.
- Coil cables loosely. Avoid tight twists and pulling on the cable. Nintendo’s safety booklet cautions against both. (Nintendo health and safety booklet)
- Close the case without forcing it. If the packed case bulges or presses on the console, remove items or choose a roomier case. Nintendo warns against excessive force; it does not publish a tested loading limit for these cases.
- Keep the packed gear dry and at moderate temperatures. Nintendo’s booklet says, “Do not let devices come into contact with liquid and do not use them with wet or oily hands,” and warns against fire, microwaves, direct sunlight, and high or extremely low temperatures. Choose a case for what you’re bringing
Match the case to the loadout: a portable-play case need not carry the dock, while a TV-play trip requires room for the dock, cables, and other equipment. The features below are product descriptions, not independent drop-test results.

Before choosing, check console fit, whether controllers stay attached or are stored separately, screen coverage, space for the dock and cables, secure game-card storage, pocket layout, and overall case size. Nintendo says its dedicated case cannot completely prevent scratches or other touch-screen damage; the reviewed product materials do not establish comparative drop-test results for these cases.
If you are mailing the console for repair
Shipping a system to Nintendo for inspection is different from packing it in a travel case. Nintendo’s repair-shipping guidance says to detach controllers and accessories, remove game cards and microSD Express cards, wrap items in protective packaging, and fill box voids so the contents stay secure. Follow the current instructions for the repair shipment rather than treating them as ordinary travel-case directions. (Nintendo repair packaging guidelines)
