If an international card is declined, check the payment methods for your country and the game platform first. Depending on the country and store, an official platform wallet or gift-card code may let you add credit using a local payment method instead. The right option depends on two details: where you live and whether you’re buying through Nintendo, Steam, or PlayStation.
Start with your country and store region
Payment options are not the same across Latin America, and a platform account’s store region matters as much as the payment method. Find your country and the region set on your Nintendo Account, Steam store, or PlayStation Store, then check that platform’s official payment guidance or checkout before buying a code.

A code that works in one country or store region may not work in another. Buy only from a seller you trust, verify that the code matches your account region, and check the seller’s refund policy. The platform guidance below identifies possible payment routes; it does not guarantee that every card, code, or local payment service will work for every account or purchase.
Nintendo: local gift-card payments in Brazil and Mexico
Nintendo Support says customers in Brazil and Mexico can buy digital Nintendo eShop gift cards to add account funds without using a credit card. The documented local payment methods are PIX or boleto bancário in Brazil and OXXO in Mexico. After processing, Nintendo emails the download code. Brazil: PIX or boleto bancário
With PIX, scan the checkout QR code using a bank app or e-wallet, check the recipient and amount, and confirm the payment. Boleto bancário is also listed as a payment option. Follow the checkout instructions and wait for payment processing and the email with the code.
Mexico: OXXO
Choose OXXO to generate a voucher, then pay it at an authorized location within five days. Nintendo says the download code is emailed after the payment is processed. Its support page says these sales are final, so confirm the amount and account-region compatibility before paying.

Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru
Nintendo’s separate eShop guidance says the store uses local currency in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru, and accepts Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards and Nintendo eShop cards. It does not accept PayPal. For automatic renewals, memberships, and preorders, Nintendo says a stored card or sufficient eShop balance is required. Steam: match the payment method to the store country
Steam advises using a payment method that matches the current store country. If a purchase fails, its support guidance recommends disabling or removing VPN or proxy software while troubleshooting; Steam says transactions started through anonymous proxies are declined. If you can’t use the checkout methods available to you, Steam says you may consider a Steam Wallet code. Check that a code is legitimate and suitable for your account’s store region before buying it; the support guidance does not guarantee that any particular seller or code will work for your account.
A failed Steam purchase can also leave a temporary card hold. Steam says release may take up to 30 days, depending on the bank and issuer. Check with your bank about its policy before repeatedly retrying the payment.

PlayStation Store: check the card’s country and ask your bank
A card registered to an address in a different country from your PlayStation Store region may not link, according to PlayStation Support. If you can’t use a card from the same country as the Store, PlayStation suggests trying another payment method or a PlayStation Store Wallet Top-Up code. Confirm that a code is compatible with your account region and comes from a seller you trust. (PlayStation Support: card problems on PlayStation Store.)
If the card should be compatible, check with your bank or card provider that online payments are enabled, funds are available, and the transaction hasn’t been blocked. PlayStation also recommends checking card compatibility with the Store.

Local payment services are not automatically accepted by game stores
Payment services offer different methods by country. Mercado Pago’s developer documentation, for example, lists country-specific options including PIX, boleto, and OXXO. That illustrates why local payment availability varies; it does not establish that Mercado Pago is accepted by Nintendo, Steam, PlayStation, or a particular checkout. A practical way to choose a route
- Identify your country and account/store region. Check the country associated with the platform account or storefront you’ll use.
- Check the platform’s country-specific payment options. Use its official support page or checkout rather than assuming a payment method accepted locally is accepted by the store.
- If direct payment isn’t available, look for platform credit. Check whether an official wallet or gift-card code is offered for your country and account region.
- Verify before paying. Confirm code region, seller authorization where stated, delivery timing, and refund terms. For a Nintendo digital eShop gift card in Brazil or Mexico, follow Nintendo’s country-specific checkout instructions.
- Handle subscriptions separately. A one-time wallet top-up may not cover automatic renewals. Check the platform’s stated requirements for memberships and recurring payments.
- Pause after a failed charge. Check for a pending hold with your bank or issuer before submitting the same payment repeatedly.
Changing countries can affect the store and payment options available to an account. Keep account and payment details accurate and follow the platform’s rules if you move.
