To play pool in an iMessage conversation, install GamePigeon and choose its 8-Ball game from Messages. That is different from Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool, a separate online pool app. In Messages, open your friend’s iMessage conversation, tap +, then choose GamePigeon and 8-Ball.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with Messages and iMessage available.
- Access to the App Store with an Apple Account.
- A one-to-one conversation with the friend you want to play. The normal game-card experience is for an iMessage conversation; a green-bubble SMS/MMS thread may not support it.
- GamePigeon installed and enabled on your device. Apple recommends using the latest iOS or iPadOS version compatible with your device. Apple’s guide to iMessage apps explains how to find and manage them.
GamePigeon is a third-party iMessage extension whose listed games include 8-Ball. GamePigeon’s official site identifies the extension and its games.
Install GamePigeon in Messages
- Open Messages and open a conversation, or start one with your friend.
- Tap the + button beside the message field.
- Tap Store to open the App Store for iMessage.
- Search for GamePigeon, then tap Get or the download button. Authenticate with your Apple Account if prompted.
- Return to the conversation. If GamePigeon is not immediately visible in the app drawer, swipe up to see the full list.
Apple documents this general installation route; search results and button presentation can vary by region and App Store version. See Apple’s current instructions.
Start an 8-Ball match
- Open the friend’s iMessage conversation.
- Tap +, then tap GamePigeon. If it is lower in the drawer, swipe up to find it.
- Choose 8-Ball and select any mode or options shown in the version you have.
- Line up the cue and take the opening shot using the on-screen controls.
- Tap the send button to put the game move or challenge into the conversation.
- Your friend can open the game message and take their turn. Continue from the same conversation whenever the game indicates it is your turn.
The extension’s controls and labels can change between versions, so follow the current on-screen prompts rather than relying on a particular button name. A third-party walkthrough describes the general install-and-launch sequence, but its interface details may be version-sensitive.

How turns and basic rules work
GamePigeon 8-Ball is a turn-based game attached to the message thread, rather than necessarily a continuously synchronized live table. When it is your turn, open the existing game message, adjust the cue and shot, then send your move so the other player can respond. To resume later, return to the original conversation and tap the existing game card instead of starting a new match.
The casual game uses solids, stripes and the 8-ball. Players generally take a group after the table is opened, continue while legally pocketing their assigned balls, and aim to pocket the 8-ball after clearing that group. Pocketing the 8-ball too early or scratching while making it may cost the game. GamePigeon’s implementation may differ from official tournament rules, including foul handling and called-shot conventions; use the game’s on-screen result and agree on house rules if those details matter.

GamePigeon 8-Ball or Miniclip 8 Ball Pool?
The names are easy to mix up, but these are different products. GamePigeon is the lightweight iMessage game. Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool is a separate online multiplayer app, with modes and progression such as PvP, rankings, cues and coins.
| What you want | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Play in an iMessage thread | GamePigeon 8-Ball | Its game is launched from Messages and played through turns in the conversation. |
| A broader online pool game with progression and competitive modes | Miniclip 8 Ball Pool | Its U.S. App Store listing describes online PvP and other in-app features. |
| Play with Android friends | A separate cross-platform pool game, such as Miniclip’s app | The native iMessage extension belongs to Apple’s Messages ecosystem and is not an Android game. |
| Avoid virtual currencies and optional purchases | GamePigeon may be the simpler fit | Miniclip’s U.S. listing includes in-app purchases; check the current GamePigeon listing and prompts rather than assuming terms are unchanged. |
Miniclip’s U.S. App Store listing describes its app as free to download with optional in-app purchases and disclosures including advertising, messaging/chat and loot boxes; those details apply to Miniclip’s app, not automatically to GamePigeon. Prices and availability vary by region and can change. Miniclip also says players cannot play together across different versions, such as mobile and web, in its 8 Ball Pool support article.

Fix common GamePigeon problems
GamePigeon is missing from the app drawer
- Open a conversation, tap +, and swipe up through the full app list.
- Tap Store and search for GamePigeon to confirm it is installed.
- Check Settings > Apps > Messages > iMessage Apps and make sure GamePigeon is enabled. You can also use Apple’s app-drawer controls to reorder apps so it is easier to find.
- Update iOS or iPadOS if an update is available, then close and reopen Messages.
- If it still does not appear, restart the device. Reinstalling the extension is a last resort.
Apple documents the app drawer and controls for enabling, disabling and reordering iMessage apps in its Messages app guide.
The conversation is green instead of blue
GamePigeon is an iMessage extension, so the native game-card workflow is intended for an iMessage conversation. A green-bubble thread, an Android recipient, iMessage being disabled, or an account or network problem can prevent that workflow. Confirm iMessage is available and active for both participants; do not assume reinstalling GamePigeon will make an SMS/MMS conversation behave like iMessage.

- RACK’em! STACK’em. WIN! Crazy 8-Ball is the ultimate two-player card game where pool becomes a duel! In this head-to-head race to sink the 8-ball, you’ll build the table as you play and “sink” balls by stacking color-matched Cue Stick, Cue Ball, and Pool Ball cards onto pockets while trying to sabotage your opponent’s game!

- Match colors to create shots, stack cards to pocket balls, and sabotage your opponent at every turn in a ruthless race to sink the 8-ball first!
- Crazy 8-Ball is perfect for friends, couples, co-workers, and any dynamic duo looking for a fun, intense 15-minute game for two.

Your friend cannot open the game
- Confirm your friend is using an Apple device with compatible Messages and iMessage support.
- Ask them to check that iMessage is active and that the game message was delivered.
- They can look for GamePigeon in the Messages app drawer and install or enable it through the App Store for iMessage if needed.
- Outdated software or App Store and parental-control restrictions may also block access.
A move looks stuck
Return to the original conversation and tap its existing GamePigeon card. Check whether the last move was sent, and give it time to deliver if the connection is poor. As practical recovery steps, close and reopen Messages or restart the device if the card will not respond. Avoid deleting the conversation before the match is finished.

Not through the native GamePigeon iMessage extension: it is made for Apple’s Messages ecosystem. If your friend uses Android, choose a separate cross-platform pool app instead. Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool is a distinct online game; check its current app and version requirements before starting together.
