There is no universal offline workaround: prepare the launcher and game while online, and check whether the specific game supports offline play at all.
Can you sign in once and then play offline?
Often, but only if the launcher has successfully saved your credentials and the game itself allows offline play. A launcher’s offline mode does not override a game’s active-internet requirement or a second launcher that also needs to authenticate.
Valve’s Steam Support guidance on Offline Mode is explicit: “If the Steam client is requiring a login, there is no option to bypass that without going online.” If Steam is already demanding a sign-in, connect to the internet and authenticate; offline mode must have been set up successfully beforehand.
Prepare Steam for offline play
Do these steps while the PC is online, before disconnecting:

- Sign in to Steam and check Remember me so the client can retain your credentials.
- Fully update the game.
- Launch the game online at least once. This lets it complete any additional setup it needs.
- Confirm that Steam has saved your credentials, then select Steam > Go Offline.
- When ready to play without a connection, start the game from Steam in Offline Mode.
Steam Offline Mode will not make every game work offline. Valve says games that require an active internet connection or an external launcher will not work in Steam Offline Mode. Check the game’s official support information if it still cannot start.
Prepare the EA app for offline play
EA’s Download and play games in the EA app instructions require you to launch the game online at least once, then select the option to go offline. Only games that do not require an internet connection can be played this way.

EA says a game works offline for 30 days from its last online launch. Closing the app returns it to online mode the next time you open it, so select offline mode again before playing without a connection. If the game needs an active connection, the app’s offline setting will not remove that requirement.
Why offline support varies by game
Offline behavior is determined by the individual title as well as the launcher. A game may need a first online launch, a patch, or another launcher; some features may also depend on online services even if the core game can run offline.

Ubisoft examples show why the title matters
Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora listing says offline mode is available after downloading the mandatory day-one patch. That condition applies to this title; it is not a promise about every Ubisoft game.
Ubisoft’s The Crew 2 offline-mode announcement describes a different set of trade-offs: offline and online saves are separate, and multiplayer, leaderboards, user-generated content, and other online systems are unavailable offline.

If the launcher is already asking you to sign in
- Connect if possible. Sign in through the official launcher, update the game, launch it online once, and enable that launcher’s offline mode before disconnecting.
- If you cannot get online, there may be no supported way to proceed. Steam explicitly requires an online sign-in when its client prompts for one. For another launcher, check the official support page for your exact game and launcher; requirements differ by title and patch.
- If you prepared offline mode but the game still fails, check whether it requires a live connection, a second launcher, a required patch, or online services for the feature you are trying to use.
Use the publisher’s official instructions for the specific title rather than assuming that an offline option in the launcher guarantees the game will start. Avoid unofficial methods that modify launcher files or attempt to bypass account authentication.
