How to Play a YouTube Live Playlist from Google Drive Using Cloud Playout

YouTube Live needs an encoder feed, not a direct Google Drive playlist. Choose a scheduled event or continuous cloud loop, then import or upload videos and test the YouTube destination.

You can stream a Google Drive video on YouTube Live by importing or uploading the file into a cloud playout service, then connecting that service to your YouTube channel. YouTube does not document a way to play a Drive playlist directly as a live broadcast: a playout service must send YouTube an encoder feed. Choose a scheduled prerecorded event for a one-time broadcast, or a looping playlist for continuous streaming.

Choose between a scheduled video and a continuous playlist

Decide what should happen when the video ends before choosing a service. A scheduled prerecorded broadcast starts at a chosen time and finishes when the video ends. A continuous playlist is designed to restart after its last item and keep the live stream going.

  • One-time broadcast: StreamYard documents scheduling a prerecorded video that starts at the selected time and ends when the video finishes. Its cited workflow does not establish direct Google Drive import.
  • Continuous loop: Gyre documents arranging uploaded files into a playlist and scheduling a 24/7 stream that restarts at the end. Its help documentation requires source videos to be uploaded to Gyre storage.

Pick a cloud playout route

These services do not all handle Drive links, scheduling, or looping the same way. Confirm current limits and permissions with the provider before preparing a large upload or setting a broadcast time.

Need Documented route What to check
Import an individual video from Drive Restream Video Storage The Drive file must be public or set to “Anyone with the link.” Supported formats are MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV. Maximum file size and duration depend on the plan. Restream transfers and processes the file into its own storage. Restream’s Drive import guide
Schedule a prerecorded event StreamYard prerecorded streaming Its documented workflow starts a selected video at the scheduled time and ends when it finishes. Duration, file-size, schedule-count, and quality limits vary by plan; check the current plan details. StreamYard’s prerecorded streaming guide
Loop videos continuously Gyre cloud playout Upload the source files to Gyre storage, arrange the playlist, and schedule the stream. The cited setup does not establish direct playback from a Google Drive URL. Gyre product page · Gyre’s video requirements
Build a custom encoder pipeline YouTube Live encoder/API or Google Cloud Live Stream API This requires technical configuration. Google’s Live Stream API documentation concerns transcoding live linear feeds; it is not a Google Drive playlist import guide. Google Cloud Live Stream API documentation

How to stream a Drive video through a cloud playout service

1. Prepare the video and confirm access

For Restream’s documented Drive import, copy the link to the video and make sure its sharing setting is public or “Anyone with the link.” The documented formats are MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV. Check your plan’s file-size and duration limits. The import transfers the file into Restream Video Storage; it is not a live read from your Drive while the broadcast runs.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Import or upload the source files

Use the provider’s import flow for a supported Drive link, or download the file and upload it if the service requires its own storage. For a Gyre loop, upload every source file to Gyre storage, including files that are already published on YouTube. Gyre’s documented workflow is storage-based, not direct Drive playback.

3. Build the right program

For a finite broadcast, select or upload the prerecorded video and schedule its start time. For a continuous stream, arrange the videos in the intended order and confirm the playlist’s end behavior. Gyre documents that its playlist restarts; do not assume another provider loops unless its current documentation says so.

4. Connect the YouTube channel

Authorize the destination channel in the playout service and check that the account can live stream. StreamYard’s setup instructions require suitable channel-owner or Brand Account manager/owner permissions. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live encoder setup guide and StreamYard’s channel setup instructions.

5. Set the destination and schedule

Choose the correct YouTube channel, broadcast title, privacy setting (public, unlisted, or private), and schedule. A managed playout service may handle stream-key binding and protocol settings for you. Check that the scheduled broadcast is associated with the intended incoming feed before going live.

6. Preview the feed and verify the end behavior

Use the service’s preview or status controls to check that YouTube receives the stream, audio and video are present, and the playlist order is right. Confirm whether the broadcast ends when a video finishes or loops to the beginning. A scheduled event and a continuous loop are different outcomes; test the exact configuration you intend to use.

What YouTube receives from a playout service

YouTube’s live model receives an encoder feed rather than reading a Drive playlist. In the Live Streaming API, a liveBroadcast represents the event, while a liveStream describes the incoming audio/video feed and its ingestion configuration, such as protocol, address, resolution, and frame rate. A broadcast can be scheduled and associated with one stream. Read the liveBroadcast resource and liveStream resource documentation.

If you configure a custom HLS encoder, YouTube’s protocol requirements matter: send TS segments of 1–4 seconds, use a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and upload with HTTPS POST/PUT. The API guide also requires a media playlist rather than a master playlist, muxed audio and video, HTTPS, and correctly sequenced playlist and segment uploads. HLS delivery can have higher latency because video arrives in segments. These are encoder implementation details; a managed playout service may handle them without exposing the settings. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements and the YouTube API HLS guide.

Google Cloud Live Stream API is a separate product for transcoding live, linear feeds into output formats. Its documentation does not describe a native Google Drive playlist-to-YouTube workflow. See Google Cloud’s documentation.

Copyright and channel checks before you go live

Cloud playout changes where the video is stored and streamed from; it does not establish that you have permission to broadcast its contents. Check that you have the rights needed for every video, music track, and other included material, and review YouTube’s current live-streaming rules before scheduling. Also verify channel access and the broadcast’s privacy and schedule settings. Do not treat a successful import or preview as confirmation that content is cleared for broadcast.

Common problems and fixes

  • The Drive file will not import: For Restream’s documented path, check that the link is public or set to “Anyone with the link,” that the format is MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV, and that the file fits your plan’s size and duration limits.
  • A continuous playlist will not start from Drive: Gyre’s documented loop requires files in Gyre storage. Upload them there and build the playlist rather than using a Drive link as the live input.
  • YouTube is not available as a destination: Confirm that live streaming is enabled and the connected account has the necessary channel-owner or Brand Account permissions. First-time YouTube live enablement can take up to 24 hours.
  • The stream appears, but the wrong video or order plays: Recheck the selected files, playlist order, destination channel, and scheduled event in the playout service; preview before the scheduled start.
  • The broadcast stops when the video ends: That is expected for a finite prerecorded event. Use a service and playlist configuration that explicitly supports restarting the playlist if you need continuous streaming.
  • A custom HLS feed is rejected or unstable: Check segment duration, rolling-playlist length, HTTPS requests, muxed audio/video, playlist type, and segment sequencing against YouTube’s HLS requirements.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is an always-on prerecorded YouTube stream rather than a one-time scheduled event, StreamNeo is another cloud playout option. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or offer quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts.
