Vengeance leans toward shielding and ordnance, Calamity toward melee and aggressive skill use, and Cybernetics toward Forge weapons, drones, and repeated skill activations. Amon is durable and capable at close range, but his skills reward timing and follow-through rather than simply pressing one button and moving on.
Start by learning your Action Skill and Forgeskill
Amon’s Forgeskill changes with the Action Skill you equip. Holding the Action Skill button activates the Forgeskill; skill investments and augments can add properties. Before choosing a build, check the skill’s in-game description and understand its full sequence, including any second input, cooldown interaction, or projectile recovery.

For example, Scourge’s Forgeshield protects Amon from the front. Damage absorbed fills the Vengeance meter, and a second Action Skill input while the shield is active releases a Cryo Forgewave. That makes it a defensive entry point with an offensive payoff: face incoming attacks, build the meter, then use the follow-up at a useful moment.
Choose a combat style that suits your preferred range
The three skill trees point toward different broad play styles, not mutually exclusive builds. Compare them by combat range, survivability, damage focus, and how much attention you want to give to skill timing and effects.

| Tree | Broad emphasis | Consider it if… |
|---|---|---|
| Vengeance | Shielding, resilience, and ordnance or heavy-weapon support | You want protection while firing heavy weapons and enjoy managing a shield-and-ordnance loop. |
| Calamity | Melee pressure, movement, and Action Skill use | You want to stay close and can support melee uptime with your gear and skill allocation. |
| Cybernetics | Forge weapons, drones, and repeated skill use | You enjoy tracking projectiles, priming and detonating targets, and handling more moving parts. |
These are useful starting points, not rules that prevent mixing approaches. Epic’s Amon class guide describes his character and skill options, while the PC Gamer melee build offers one dated example: it uses Scourge for protection while punching and discusses interactions among Berserk, There Is Only Red, My Touch Is Death, and Groundbreaker. That guide was updated September 25, 2025; treat its exact allocations as an example, not a guaranteed current damage exploit.
Run the whole skill loop instead of wasting its follow-up
Scourge: absorb, build, release
- Equip Scourge and use its Forgeshield to cover your front while advancing or holding a position.
- Let the shield absorb incoming damage to fill the Vengeance meter.
- While the shield remains active, press the Action Skill button again to release the Cryo Forgewave.
- Build around status effects and related bonuses if you want to extend this defensive-to-offensive loop.
This is a suggested early leveling route, not a universal best build. The PlayBorderlands Amon leveling guide develops a status-effect and survivability approach from Scourge; adapt its investments as you unlock points and find weapons that suit you.

Crucible: account for the Forgeaxes’ return
Epic’s guide describes Crucible’s Flame or Frost Forgeaxes as damaging and priming enemies. Recovered axes can refund cooldowns, so watch where they travel and look for chances to recover them. Firing the axes and immediately ignoring their return can mean missing part of the skill’s value. Primed enemies can also feed detonation synergies in a build that invests in them.
Onslaughter: use mobility and know its limit
Onslaughter supports an aggressive close-range approach with movement, shield regeneration, gun bonuses, and a Rocket Punch that closes distance and staggers regular enemies. Epic notes that bosses are immune to the stagger, so do not plan a boss strategy around interrupting them with that effect. Use the skill for its other benefits when the target cannot be staggered.

Level without over-farming your gear
During the campaign, replace guns that have fallen behind your level rather than holding onto them for the entire run. Ordinary gear can work; a specific legendary is not a prerequisite for learning Amon or progressing through the story. Early target farming may be inefficient because new levels can quickly make a drop obsolete.
- The PlayBorderlands leveling route invests as points become available in Impetus, incendiary and status-effect bonuses, Bullet Storm, Catastrophe, Crackling Aegis, Fists of Stone, Electrical Fire, Gut Punch, and Berserk. Use that as an example of a coherent status-effect and survivability direction, not a mandatory skill order.
- That guide recommends Torgue weapons for burst, with fast rifles or SMGs as backups. It also suggests Maliwan—preferably fire—as an option for applying burns.
- Firewerks is listed as a shield option and Hot Slugger as a useful shotgun in that leveling setup. Both are optional recommendations, not required equipment.
- It advises against rushing for a heavy weapon before the build reaches the 30s. That is the guide’s leveling recommendation, not a universal breakpoint.
How to decide which build is right for you
There is no established single best Amon build for every player or activity. Before copying a build, decide what you want to do in combat and check whether its skill and gear choices support that goal.

- Pick your range: decide whether you want to fight up close, rely more on projectiles, or support heavy-weapon play.
- Choose a damage focus: consider whether you prefer gun, melee, or ordnance damage.
- Set your survivability preference: decide how much of your investment you want devoted to protection versus offense.
- Match the skill rhythm: check the Action Skill’s cooldown and Forgeskill follow-up, including whether projectiles need to be recovered or enemies primed.
- Account for how much management you enjoy: status effects, returning weapons, drones, and detonations can add depth, but also ask for more attention in a fight.
Check current skill descriptions before copying exact ranks
Build advice can age as balance changes arrive. In its Borderlands 4: Version 1.6 notes, dated April 30, 2026, Gearbox said: “Getting the right balance for Action Skills and skill trees is a constant focus for us. The balance changes listed below are just the latest batch, and we plan to keep doing additional passes in the future as the game continues to evolve.” Check your current in-game tooltips and the latest official patch notes before relying on exact skill ranks, damage values, or a claim that a build is currently best.
