In Fortnite’s January 2025 Godzilla event, becoming giant Godzilla in a Battle Royale match meant finding a special portal and entering it before anyone else. It was a chance, not a guaranteed option: the portal had to appear, and only its first entrant transformed. That event was separate from unlocking the Godzilla Evolved Outfit through Chapter 6 Season 1 Battle Pass quests.
How did you become Godzilla in a Fortnite match?
Epic announced the collaboration on January 16, 2025, and the Battle Royale portal event began January 17. When a special portal appeared on the map, the first player to find and enter it became Godzilla for that match. Only one player could transform in each match. Epic described the portal as having a “special chance” to appear but did not publish a spawn percentage, so there is no supported odds figure to rely on. Epic’s event announcement has the original details.
What Godzilla could do
The transformed player could use Roar to reveal nearby players, Mighty Stomp Attack to launch them, and Heat Ray against players and structures.
What other players could earn
Players fighting Godzilla could aim at weak spots to deal extra damage and knock off Godzilla Fragments. Each Fragment restored 40 Health and granted three dash charges when consumed. The player who dealt the most damage received the Godzilla Medallion, whose recharging dash ability held up to three charges at a time, as well as the exotic Burst Quad Launcher. Epic also said the Rail Gun returned to help players take on Godzilla.

Was the Godzilla outfit the same as becoming Godzilla?
No. The match transformation was a contested in-game event triggered by a portal. The Godzilla Evolved Outfit was a cosmetic reward earned by completing quests; wearing it did not make a player the giant Godzilla in a match.

How was the Godzilla Evolved Outfit unlocked?
During Chapter 6 Season 1, owners of the 鬼 HUNTERS Battle Pass could earn the outfit by completing Battle Pass quests in any Fortnite experience. Quest rewards also included the Exo-Spine Back Bling, Crystal Fang Pickaxe, Mothra Glider, and Lil’ Godzilla Attack Emote. Completing every quest unlocked the Energized Godzilla Style. Epic set the season and quest deadline at February 21, 2025, at 2 AM ET.

The outfit was based on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. TOHO’s January 16, 2025 announcement also named separate Mechagodzilla & Kong and Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) collaboration bundles for Fortnite and Rocket League; these shop products were not the way to trigger the Battle Royale transformation.

The documented portal event and Battle Pass quest window are historical. The quest deadline was February 21, 2025, at 2 AM ET, and the official announcements cited here do not establish whether the associated cosmetics later returned to the Item Shop or whether the portal event is currently available. Check Fortnite’s current in-game inventory for present availability rather than assuming the old event or quest can still be accessed.
