Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand supports online co-op for two players throughout the story campaign. After the opening introduction—described by the developers as roughly ten minutes—one player can host and the other join. To give the guest the best chance of keeping shared quest progress, start at the same chapter and choose the keep-progress option when leaving.

What co-op includes

Co-op is an online, two-player way to play the campaign, not a separate short mode. Focus Entertainment says friends can play the full story together, and the developers describe it as available from start to finish after the opening introduction. Focus Entertainment’s co-op announcement describes playing the full story campaign together.

The current storefront title is Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand. Focus describes Reign of Sand as a free major update, with expanded content and a reworked campaign listed on storefronts. Focus Entertainment’s game page provides the publisher’s current product information.

How to start a co-op session

  1. Check platform access and online requirements. Both players need to be online and able to access the same supported platform version. On PlayStation or Xbox consoles, check the subscription requirement for online multiplayer before launching.
  2. Complete the opening introduction. Developers have said co-op becomes available after approximately ten minutes of introduction; actual time may vary with play pace.
  3. Connect through the game or platform. Use the in-game co-op connection flow or a supported platform invite or matchmaking option to have one player host and the other join. Menu labels may differ by installed version; follow the prompts shown in-game.
  4. Align story progress if the guest wants to keep quest progress. Have the guest join a host at the same chapter or roughly the same point in the campaign.
  5. Choose the guest’s exit option carefully. When leaving, select the option to keep co-op progress if it appears.

Platform requirements and matchmaking

Platform What is established Practical note
PS5 The PlayStation listing supports up to two online players and requires PS Plus for online play. PlayStation Store listing Check that the required subscription is active on the account used to play.
Xbox Series X|S The Xbox listing describes two-player online co-op and says console multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate. Xbox Store listing Subscription names and availability can vary by region or change over time; confirm the current requirement in your local store.
PC Steam lists Online Co-op. Steam listing Focus Entertainment’s September 10, 2024 Patch 5.3 added code-based matchmaking to the PC Game Pass/Microsoft Store version to make co-op with Steam and Epic Games Store players easier. Patch 5.3 notes The PC matchmaking update does not establish a complete cross-play matrix, and it does not confirm cross-play between PC and consoles.

Will the guest keep co-op progress?

Shared play does not guarantee that the guest will retain every quest step in a solo save. Developer guidance says a guest who starts at roughly the host’s story point can continue the progress made together in solo play. A Focus community representative gave more specific guidance: the players should be in the same chapter, and the guest should select “Keep all co-op progress” when logging out. Can PC and console players play together?

The available official information does not confirm a full cross-play compatibility matrix across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Patch 5.3 specifically added code-based matchmaking for the PC Game Pass/Microsoft Store version to ease co-op with Steam and Epic Games Store players; that is not evidence that console players can join PC sessions. Check the game’s current connection options for your platforms rather than assuming every version can play together.
