To play Brick by Brick with a friend on Steam, one player hosts an online room, shares the room code shown by the game, and the other player enters that code through the join-room flow. After the connection succeeds, you can sort bricks, explore the space, and build together over the internet.
What multiplayer support does Brick by Brick have?
Brick by Brick is a first-person sorting and building sandbox from Budder Technology LLC. The Steam listing identifies both Online Co-op and LAN Co-op as supported features. Its published online instructions use a room-code system rather than a public server browser: the host creates an online room, then gives the displayed code to a friend.

The game’s co-op activities are the same core activities that define its solo sandbox. Players can sort loose bricks into shelves, explore the space, and construct builds together. The environment contains thousands of individual pieces, free-building areas, physics-based brick interaction, persistent save files, and earthquakes that can scatter sorted bricks back into disorder.
The listing describes the starting piles as containing “roughly 4,000 loose pieces.” That is a developer-published gameplay description, not an independently measured count, so treat it as an approximate scale indicator rather than a guaranteed number in every session.

What you need before inviting a friend
- A copy of Brick by Brick launched through Steam.
- A friend who can launch the game and use its join-room flow.
- A way to transmit the room code accurately, such as Steam chat or another voice or text channel.
- A keyboard and mouse, or a compatible PC game controller. Steam lists full controller gameplay as supported.
- A shared plan for what to do first: sorting, exploring, or building. The game’s physics can also create an earthquake-driven reset, so do not treat every sorted pile as permanently safe.
The listing does not publish a required internet speed, latency target, minimum bandwidth figure, or multiplayer player cap. Do not assume a specific number of participants or a guaranteed network requirement from the room-code description alone.
How to host an online room
The exact button labels are not named on the Steam store page, so the wording you see in the live build may differ. Look for the game’s online multiplayer or room-hosting option rather than relying on a particular menu name.
- Open Brick by Brick from your Steam library.
- Choose the game’s online multiplayer or room-hosting entry.
- Select the option to host an online room.
- Wait for the game to display the room code.
- Copy the code or read it carefully, preserving every character and its capitalization if the game uses case-sensitive codes.
- Send the code to the friend who will join. Steam chat is a practical place to paste it, but the game does not require a particular messaging method in the published instructions.
- Keep the room open while your friend completes the join process. Once the friend appears as connected, begin sorting, exploring, or building together.
Hosting is the step that creates the session other players can find with the code. Sending an ordinary Steam game invite may be convenient, but the official listing specifically documents the host-and-code method, so use that method when you need the documented procedure.

- Launch Brick by Brick through Steam.
- Open the game’s online multiplayer menu.
- Choose the join-room flow.
- Enter the room code supplied by the host. If the game provides a paste field, pasting avoids confusing similar characters.
- Submit the code and wait for the connection to complete.
- Once inside the shared space, coordinate with the host before moving large piles or starting a build.
The store listing confirms that the friend joins by using the host’s room code, but it does not publish the exact menu path, field label, or whether the code is case-sensitive. If a code fails, compare it character by character with the host’s display instead of guessing a different lobby option.

Online co-op and LAN co-op: what is confirmed
| Capability | What the Steam listing establishes | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| Online co-op | Supported. The documented flow is to host an online room and share its room code. | The listing does not state a latency target, bandwidth requirement, regional restriction, or player limit. |
| LAN co-op | Listed as supported. | No separate LAN menu sequence or discovery method is published on the store page. |
| Controller input | Full controller gameplay is listed, alongside keyboard and mouse support. | The listing does not specify button mappings or which individual controller models are compatible. |
| Remote Play Together | Steam Support describes Remote Play Together as a way to invite Steam Friends to supported local co-op sessions remotely. | The Brick by Brick listing does not identify Remote Play Together support. Do not promise that feature for this game. |
| Maximum players | Not stated on the cited listing. | Do not advertise a player count unless a current official source publishes one. |
LAN support and online room support are separate listings. The documented room-code steps apply to online play; they should not be presented as a confirmed LAN setup sequence. If you intend to play on the same local network, look for a LAN option in the current game build and follow the labels it actually shows.
What to do together once the room connects
Sort the loose pieces
The central cooperative task is organizing the loose bricks into shelf-based storage. One player can identify categories while another carries pieces, or you can divide shelves by color, shape, or building function. Because the game presents thousands of individual bricks, agree on a naming convention before the piles become larger. For example, one person can handle long structural pieces while the other handles small connectors, provided both players use the same shelf plan.
Explore before committing to a large build
Exploration lets both players learn the available free-building areas and identify where a shared project will fit. Walk through the space together before scattering materials. This reduces the chance that one player starts a construction in an area the other intended to use for sorting.
Build in a shared work area
Free-building areas support collaborative construction. Assign a simple division of labor: one player can lay out a foundation while the other retrieves matching bricks from the shelves. Physics-based interactions mean pieces can move when touched or stacked, so leave access paths around a build instead of sealing every side immediately.

- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
Plan for an earthquake event
The game includes earthquakes that can send sorted bricks back into chaos. Treat sorting as an ongoing activity rather than a one-time setup. Before starting a complicated structure, decide which pieces are essential and where you will recover them if the environment is disrupted. An earthquake is part of the sandbox’s resettable physics, not evidence that the multiplayer room has failed.
How to divide work efficiently
- Sorting assignment: Give each player a defined shelf group so both people are not reaching for the same pile.
- Builder and supplier: One player places pieces while the other retrieves them. Switch roles when the supplier’s area becomes disorganized.
- Explorer and mapper: One player checks available spaces while the other keeps a small stock of likely construction pieces nearby.
- Recovery plan: After an earthquake, pause the build, identify the most important scattered pieces, and restore the shelves before continuing.
These are coordination techniques, not required game rules. The published description confirms the activities and physics, but it does not impose roles, objectives, or a mission order.
Keyboard, mouse, and controller choices
Steam lists keyboard and mouse support and full controller gameplay. Use whichever input method lets you handle repeated pickup, placement, and movement actions comfortably. A controller for Steam multiplayer is an optional accessory, not a requirement for joining an online room.
Recommended Free Tools
The store listing does not publish a control diagram, remapping path, supported controller brands, or a rule that all players must use the same input device. If a controller is not responding, first verify that Steam recognizes it and then check the game’s current control settings. Keep a keyboard and mouse available for troubleshooting or for entering a room code if the code field is easier to use that way.

Troubleshooting a room-code connection
The friend cannot join
- Confirm that the host actually selected online room hosting and is still inside the room.
- Request a fresh copy of the displayed code rather than retyping an older message.
- Check each character carefully, especially characters that look alike in the game’s font.
- Make sure the joining player is using the join-room flow, not the separate LAN option.
- Close and reopen the multiplayer menu if the room field appears to be stuck, then enter the current code again.
The code is rejected immediately
An immediate rejection usually means the code was entered incorrectly or the host room is no longer active. Compare the entered text with the host’s current display. If the host generated a new room after leaving the first one, the old code will no longer be the right code to use.
The connection drops after joining
The cited Steam material does not publish a diagnostic procedure for disconnects, a network timeout value, or a minimum connection specification. Reopen the room, send the newly displayed code, and have the friend join again. If repeated disconnects continue, record whether the failure happens during room entry or only after gameplay begins; that distinction helps separate a code problem from a broader session or network problem.
Players see different room states
Return to the host’s room and confirm that both players are connected before moving a large amount of material. The game’s physics and earthquake events can change the shared scene quickly, so apparent differences may be caused by a reset or by players acting at the same time rather than by a failed join.

LAN Co-op appears in Steam’s supported-features list, but the store description gives no LAN instructions. The online procedure therefore cannot be presented as a confirmed LAN recipe. On a local network, open the multiplayer menu and identify the LAN-specific option shown by the installed version. If the build offers a host-and-code process for LAN as well, use the code it displays; if it offers local discovery instead, follow that interface. Do not invent a port number, IP-address procedure, or discovery rule that the official listing does not state.

Remote Play Together is not confirmed
Steam Support describes Remote Play Together as a mechanism for remotely inviting Steam Friends to supported local co-op sessions. That general Steam feature does not prove that every game supports it. The Brick by Brick store listing identifies online and LAN co-op but does not identify Remote Play Together support. Use the game’s documented online-room method rather than promising that Remote Play Together will work.
Save files, persistence, and multiplayer expectations
The listing says the game has persistent save files. That means the sandbox includes saved progress, but the cited material does not specify whether saves are owned by the host, synchronized for every participant, or stored in a particular slot. Decide who will host future sessions if you want continuity, and avoid assuming that every player receives an independent copy of a shared build.
Persistent saves also do not remove the game’s earthquake mechanic. A saved world can still contain the sandbox’s resettable physics chaos; keep important sorting and construction decisions organized so the group can resume after an event.

Steam lists a release date of September 9, 2026. One Steam snapshot also displays stale planned-release wording, so availability is date-sensitive. Before trying to host, check the live Steam listing and your library status rather than relying on an old announcement or cached page. The multiplayer instructions apply once the game is available in the build you have installed.
Quick pre-session checklist
- Launch the same current game build through Steam.
- Decide whether you are using online co-op or investigating the separately listed LAN mode.
- Choose a host and open the online room.
- Copy the currently displayed room code.
- Send the code through a private message.
- Have the friend enter it through the join-room flow.
- Agree on sorting shelves, exploration areas, or the first construction task.
- Keep in mind that earthquakes can scatter sorted pieces and that the official listing does not state a player cap.
That is the complete documented route for playing Brick by Brick with a friend online: host, share the room code, join with the code, and work together in the sandbox.
