The two legal ways to obtain a classic Shrek game
Buy an authorized digital listing

Only if Microsoft’s current backward-compatibility catalog lists that exact title and edition. Microsoft describes Xbox One backward compatibility as supporting select Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games you already own

The cited Xbox documentation does not establish that Shrek 2 or Shrek SuperSlam is in the current catalog. Do not buy an original Xbox Shrek disc expecting it to work until you have searched the live list for the exact game.
How disc-based backward compatibility works when a title is supported
- On an Xbox One or Xbox Series X, sign in to the account that owns the game or insert the original compatible disc.
- If the title is supported, the console downloads a modern package. The disc is used as proof of ownership and must remain in the drive while you play.
- Install updates and start the game from My games & apps. The original disc itself is not running the old executable directly.
Xbox Series S is digital-only and has no disc drive. An original Xbox or Xbox 360 Shrek disc therefore cannot serve as the ownership check on that model. You would need an authorized digital listing for the compatible edition, if one exists.

A separately sold PS4 or PS5 version may be playable on PS5, but no current listing for such a re-release was published. Using original PlayStation hardware
An authentic PS2 disc can be played on a working PS2 with a compatible controller and memory card. Check the disc’s region against the console and inspect it for deep scratches, warping, or a damaged label. A listing that omits the platform, region, or disc photos is a higher-risk purchase.
Playing Shrek games on a modern Windows PC
Shrek Forever After through Steam
Valve announced on August 27, 2010 that Shrek Forever After: The Game was available for purchase on Steam. That statement proves historical availability, not current stock. Open the current Steam page in your country, confirm that the game has an active purchase option, and read the listed operating-system requirements before paying. If the page is unavailable, delisted, or blocked in your region, do not use an unofficial key or download as a workaround.
Installing the DVD edition
The official PC manual documents a DVD-ROM installation. When Windows does not start the installer automatically, it instructs you to open the disc and run setup.exe.
- Connect an internal DVD drive or a lawful external USB DVD drive and insert the original disc.
- If an autoplay prompt appears, choose the installer. If nothing happens, open File Explorer, select the DVD drive, and double-click
setup.exe. - Install to a folder you can access, then apply any official updates included with the release.
- Launch the game from its installed shortcut. Keep the disc available if the release uses disc checking.

- Confirm that the seller is offering the Windows edition, not a console disc in a PC-style case.
- Check for the DVD, product documentation, and any required serial number. “Case only” listings are not game licenses.
- Make sure your computer has an optical drive or that you have a compatible external USB DVD drive.
- Read the seller’s return policy. A disc can be authentic yet fail because of age, scratches, or an unreadable layer.

GOG says its Preservation Program is intended to keep classic games playable on modern systems, with DRM-free delivery and dedicated technical support. The cited program page does not list a Shrek title, however, so it is a place to search rather than proof that any particular Shrek game is available.
If a preservation store lists a Shrek game, read the product page for the exact edition, supported Windows versions, included extras, and regional restrictions. A store’s general preservation policy cannot substitute for a live listing for the game you want.

Steam shows an old announcement but no purchase button
The 2010 announcement is historical. A news page can remain visible after a product is delisted or restricted. Search the current store page while signed in, check your country, and look for an active purchase option and supported operating systems. If those are absent, choose an authentic physical copy and suitable hardware instead of an unofficial download.
The PC has no DVD drive
