How do teams, assists, and character switching work?
Tōkon is a four-character team fighter. Each player starts with access to the first two teammates; the official PlayStation FAQ says the remaining characters can be unlocked by causing a stage transition or wall bounce through a qualifying move, combo, or throw near an edge, or by losing a round.
The beginner guide describes these controls:

- Directional input + L2: Switch characters.
- L2 after an assist: Use the brief “Switch?” prompt to switch characters.
Learning the assist call on its own before adding the assist-to-switch sequence is a straightforward way to take on the team layer. The game director recommends experimenting with partners who cover close and long ranges. Cyclops is described as having both ranges himself, but official sources do not identify his assist function, best partners, team order, or demonstrated synergies. Which input style and practice options should you use?
The game offers Quick Skills and Command Inputs. Quick Skills activate with one button and are suited to learning fundamentals; Command Inputs require more execution but deal slightly more damage and generate more Skill Gauge. The official PlayStation page confirms that Training Mode is available for practicing combos and that button inputs can be customized.
