Blizzard’s high-level descriptions establish the idea behind his scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones, but don’t provide enough detail to prescribe exact combos or timing. Use the current in-game ability descriptions to learn those mechanics before building a fixed play pattern.
What kind of hero is Doctrine?
Doctrine is a Support hero, listed by Blizzard as Hero 54. Blizzard describes his concept as a vampire-inspired Support who manipulates lifeforce with a scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones. That gives new players a useful starting point: learn how his abilities work together rather than treating each one as an isolated button.
Blizzard introduced Doctrine through a limited-time Hero Trial before he officially joined the roster in Season 5, which launched October 6, 2026. The trial announcement describes that release sequence; availability and balance may have changed since then.
How should you think about Infuse?
In an official developer discussion, Infuse is described as a way to amp up Doctrine’s other abilities. The practical learning question is therefore not simply “Which ability is strongest?” but “Which ability gains the most value from being empowered in this situation?”

The available official descriptions do not establish the exact effects, resource rules, or ideal target for Infuse. Avoid assuming a universal best choice: check the current in-game ability text, then learn how each empowerment changes the ability before committing to a routine.
A beginner approach to learning Doctrine
- Read the current ability descriptions. Open Doctrine’s hero details in-game and review every ability, including Infuse. Treat the live descriptions as authoritative for the version you are playing.
- Identify what Infuse can affect. Use the ability text to determine which of Doctrine’s abilities it can amplify and what that amplification changes.
- Practice one interaction at a time. In a low-pressure setting, test each confirmed Infuse option separately. Pay attention to the practical difference the description promises rather than trying to memorize a complex sequence immediately.
- Make the empowerment decision based on the situation. Once you understand the effects, choose the ability that answers the immediate need. The official sources establish the amplification concept, not a fixed priority or an optimal combo.
- Recheck after updates. Hero abilities and balance can change. Revisit the in-game descriptions and relevant official patch notes if an interaction behaves differently from what you learned.
What is not established about his gameplay?
Blizzard’s accessible announcement and developer discussion provide a high-level concept, not a complete gameplay guide. They do not establish Doctrine’s exact cooldowns, range, damage or healing values, targeting rules, detailed ability effects, recommended combos, counters, team synergies, or competitive performance statistics. No win-rate, pick-rate, damage, or healing figure is supported by those sources, so numerical claims about his performance should not be treated as verified here.
