Install DUSK through its official Steam listing, confirm that your computer meets the published requirements, launch the game, and open Settings → Feel → Bindings to change controls. Keyboard and mouse are the clearest baseline for its fast first-person action. Controller support was improved in a later PC update, but controller players should still connect the pad and verify every essential action in the current binding screen before starting a campaign.
What DUSK is and what you can play today
DUSK is a fast first-person shooter built around direct movement, quick weapon changes and close-range reactions. The Steam release date is December 10, 2018. The official listing identifies versions for Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux, so it is not limited to a legacy Windows installation.

The game includes a campaign, Endless Survival Mode and DUSKWorld arena multiplayer. The store listing also carries a mature-content notice for pixelated blood and gore. Decide whether that content is suitable for your household before installing it, particularly on a shared family computer.

Check your PC against the published requirements
The following figures are the Windows specifications shown on the Steam listing from the 2018 release period. They are useful for a first check, not a guarantee of compatibility with every current driver, operating-system build or Steam client.
| Component | Windows minimum | Windows recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 or later | Windows 10 |
| Processor | 2.4 GHz dual-core or higher | 2.4 GHz quad-core or higher |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce 9800GT or equivalent | GeForce GTX 460 or equivalent |
| DirectX | DirectX 9 | Not separately stated on the listing |
| Storage | 2 GB available | 2 GB available |
| Internet | Not stated as a general requirement | Broadband internet for network features |
The 2 GB storage figure is the published game requirement, not a promise that a modern Steam installation will consume exactly 2 GB after downloads, updates and local files. Leave additional free space so Steam can install and update without filling the drive.
Steam also publishes macOS and SteamOS/Linux requirements for the game, but the exact figures can change on the storefront or support pages. If you are using either platform, read the current listing for your operating-system version, graphics hardware and compatibility notes rather than applying the Windows table.
Install DUSK from Steam
- Open the official Steam listing. Confirm that the page identifies the Windows, macOS or SteamOS/Linux version you intend to run and read the current requirements for that platform.
- Purchase or redeem the game through your Steam account. The installation is tied to the account that owns the title.
- Select Install in your Steam library. Choose a drive with at least the published 2 GB of free space plus room for Steam’s temporary installation and update files.
- Let Steam finish downloading and validating the installation. Do not launch while an update is still pending; the executable and content may not yet be in their final state.
- Connect your intended input device. For keyboard and mouse, plug in the devices you will use for play. For a controller, connect it before launching so the game can detect the device during startup.
- Launch DUSK from the library. If Steam itself refuses to run on your old operating system, resolve the Steam-client compatibility issue first; that is separate from the game’s historical Windows 7 minimum.
The Steam listing is the authoritative place to recheck platform availability and requirements because storefront specifications can be revised after release. The game released in 2018, so do not assume that a requirement displayed by an old guide is still the wording shown on the current page.
Make a sensible first-launch setup
On the first launch, take a minute to establish a known-good baseline before changing several variables at once. Choose the display and audio options exposed by your installed version, then enter a low-pressure area or another safe point where you can test movement and weapons. The goal is to separate a control problem from a performance or installation problem.

- Comfort Grip with Details - The skin-friendly frosted coating is the main comfort grip of the mouse surface, which offers you the most enjoyable fingerprint-free tactility. The left side equipped with rubber texture strengthened the friction and made the mouse easier to control.
- 5 Decent Backlit Modes - Turn the backlit on and make some kills in your gaming battlefield. The hyped dynamic RGB backlit vibe will never let you down when decorating your gaming space, it would be better with other Redragon accessories with lights on.
- Fatigue Killer with Ergonomic Design - Solid frame with a streamlined and general claw-grip design offers a satisfying and comfortable gaming experience with less fatigue even though after hours of use.
- Move in all four directions and confirm that releasing a key stops movement.
- Jump, crouch and walk so you know which actions are reachable without taking your hand far from movement.
- Fire, zoom and use quick melee once with the mouse or controller.
- Interact with an object, toggle the flashlight and change weapons.
- Create a quick save, then use the quick-load command to confirm that saving and loading respond as expected.
Do not judge the game from a single unfamiliar key press. DUSK has a compact but action-heavy control set, and a binding that looks comfortable in a menu can feel awkward when movement, aiming and weapon selection happen at the same time.
Change keyboard and mouse bindings
The documented menu path is Settings → Feel → Bindings. “Feel” is where the gameplay input options are grouped, rather than a general Steam controller configuration screen.
- Launch DUSK and open Settings.
- Select the Feel tab.
- Open Bindings.
- Select the action you want to change.
- Press the new keyboard or mouse input when prompted.
- Review the resulting layout before returning to play. If the new key conflicts with another action, resolve the conflict deliberately rather than relying on memory.
- Test the change in a safe area with movement, jumping, crouching, firing and weapon selection.
A DUSK developer explained that “Most, but not all things can be re-bound to whatever key (or input) you need.” Gameplay-centric actions can be changed, but some menu controls remain hard-bound. That distinction matters: a successful change to an in-game action does not imply that every menu command can be reassigned.
The same developer response notes that an INI configuration can assist with additional mouse, wheel, alphabetic and function-key inputs. Treat that as an advanced fallback, not the first step. Use the in-game binding menu for ordinary changes, make a backup before editing a configuration file, and change one input at a time so you can identify the setting responsible if a layout stops working.
Default keyboard and mouse controls
The following layout comes from the developer’s Steam post. It is a reference point, not a requirement: gameplay actions can be changed in Feel → Bindings.

“Mouse 0,” “Mouse 1” and “Mouse 2” refer to the primary, secondary and middle mouse inputs in the developer’s naming convention. On a conventional mouse these are normally left click, right click and the clickable wheel, but verify the labels against your device if it has remapped buttons.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe number row gives immediate access to weapons, while Q provides the last used weapon. R flips the weapon, H holsters it, and Mouse 2 supplies a quick melee action. Those commands compete for the same hand that aims, so try them under movement rather than only while standing still.
Controller support and the weapon wheel
A later official PC update announcement lists a weapon wheel, better controller bindings including DualShock 4 support, and Auto-Hop and Auto-Climb options. These changes make a controller a viable option, but the announcement does not publish a complete current button chart.
- Connect the controller before launching DUSK.
- Open Settings → Feel → Bindings after the game detects it.
- Inspect the entries for movement, jump, crouch, fire, zoom, interact, melee, flashlight and weapon selection.
- Open the weapon wheel if your version exposes it and verify how weapons are selected and confirmed.
- Enter a safe area and test every essential action, including saving and loading if those commands are available on the controller layout.
Do not assume that a familiar console layout applies to this PC release. The update confirms improved bindings, not a universal button arrangement for every controller model or current build. If an action is missing, return to the in-game binding screen instead of guessing which face or shoulder button should perform it.
Keyboard and mouse versus controller
Both input methods are supported, but they solve different comfort and control priorities. The available sources establish rebinding and improved controller support; they do not provide latency, frame-rate or accuracy benchmarks.

| Immediately available weapon binds | The number row, Q, R and H provide several dedicated keyboard commands, with additional actions on nearby keys. | The weapon wheel can reduce the need for many separate buttons, but the current button chart is not published in the update announcement. |
| Long-session comfort | Depends on desk height, mouse grip and keyboard reach. Rebind crouch and melee if your hand leaves movement too often. | Can be comfortable for players who prefer both hands on one device; confirm that every required action is reachable without awkward combinations. |
| Accessibility | Separate keyboard and mouse inputs allow highly specific placement, including alternate or left-handed movement schemes. | Analog movement and a unified device may help some players, while limited buttons may require a wheel or multi-input arrangement. |
| Movement preference | WASD provides discrete directional keys and a familiar PC-FPS baseline. | An analog stick offers continuous movement for players who prefer that feel. |
Start with keyboard and mouse if you want the most direct PC-FPS arrangement. Start with a controller if analog movement or a one-device setup is more important to you, then confirm the complete action set before beginning a serious run.

Keep movement-critical actions close
Crouch and quick melee are the first candidates to reconsider because they may be needed while you are still moving and aiming. Left Ctrl and Mouse 2 are the defaults, but your hand size, keyboard shape and mouse buttons may make another placement safer. Choose keys that you can press without lifting your movement fingers for a long time.
Preserve a clear weapon plan
You can keep direct weapon selection on the number row, use Q for the last used weapon and retain the weapon wheel on controller. Avoid assigning several high-priority actions to the same physical button or to combinations that are difficult to remember under pressure. After changing a weapon command, test switching away from and back to the weapon while walking and looking around.
Use alternate movement when the keyboard demands it
A laptop keyboard may have an awkward left edge, a cramped function row or a layout that makes Left Ctrl difficult to reach. Feel → Bindings lets you create an alternate or left-handed movement scheme. Write down the new arrangement until it becomes familiar, and change only the actions that cause a real reach problem.

A USB gaming mouse is the most directly relevant accessory because fire, zoom and quick melee are explicitly assigned to mouse inputs in the documented layout. A USB keyboard is a secondary fit for the many movement, utility, weapon and save commands. These are task-enabling choices, not performance guarantees; the game’s sources do not provide a benchmark showing that a particular peripheral increases frame rate or accuracy.

Test the layout before starting a campaign level
- Movement: walk forward, backward and sideways, then combine movement with looking in different directions.
- Mobility: jump, crouch and walk without accidentally triggering another command.
- Combat: fire or throw, zoom and use quick melee while moving.
- Interaction: use an object and toggle the flashlight.
- Weapons: select at least two weapons directly, switch to the last used weapon, flip or holster the weapon, and try the wheel if you use a controller.
- Recovery: create a quick save, load it, and confirm that restart behaves as expected before relying on those commands.
This sequence catches the most expensive mistakes early: a crouch key that conflicts with movement, a mouse button that does not register, a weapon wheel that is never confirmed, or a save command you cannot reach when you need it.
Troubleshoot the common setup problems
The game will not install or launch
Compare your machine with the current Steam listing rather than relying only on the 2018 figures. Confirm the operating system, processor, memory, graphics hardware and available storage. If Steam itself is unsupported on the old operating system, upgrading or using a supported machine is a client issue, not a DUSK control issue.
A binding does not change
Return to Settings → Feel → Bindings, select the action again and review the resulting layout before leaving the menu. Remember that some menu controls remain hard-bound even though most gameplay actions can be reassigned. If you need an input outside the ordinary menu choices, consult the INI-based approach described by the developer and change only one entry at a time.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The controller connects but an action is missing
Reconnect it before launching, reopen the binding screen and inspect each essential action. The update announcement confirms improved controller bindings and DualShock 4 support, but it does not define a single button chart for every current device. Verify fire, zoom, movement, jump, crouch, interact, melee, flashlight and weapon selection manually.
The new layout feels worse during combat
Re-test while moving instead of standing in place. DUSK combines aiming, movement, melee and weapon selection quickly, so a key that is comfortable in the menu may be too far away in play. Restore the default layout temporarily, change one action, and test again until you identify the specific reach or conflict causing the problem.
Keep your setup documented
Once the controls feel right, take a short note or screenshot of the custom layout. This is especially useful after switching between keyboard and controller, moving the installation to another PC, or editing an INI file. Keep the default table above as a recovery reference, and make a backup before experimenting with advanced configuration.
For the broadest compatibility, treat the current Steam listing as the authority on operating systems and published requirements, and treat Feel → Bindings as the authority on the controls available in your installed build. That combination gives you a reliable way to install the 2018 PC release on a current machine without assuming that old operating-system requirements or an undocumented controller chart still tell the whole story.
