For a first playthrough, use release order: start with KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, continue with KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and finish with KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind. Square Enix’s KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] combines those three packages.
The collection is available natively on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Windows through the Microsoft Store. The first package is also native on the original Nintendo Switch. Physical PlayStation and Switch 2 editions require an internet connection to download additional data, so a disc or cartridge alone is not the complete installation.

The short answer: buy the three-package collection and play in release order
The cleanest modern route is to obtain KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], or its three component packages, and follow this sequence:
Recommended Free Tools
- KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind
Do not begin with the series’ internal chronology. Kingdom Hearts deliberately reveals its mysteries through release order, and several entries assume that you have already seen earlier games, movies or cutscene compilations. A chronological order can be useful for a later replay, but release order is the least confusing first experience.
#1 Best Overall
- The compilation includes the following games: KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD Remastered cinematics) KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep Final MIX KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded (HD Remastered cinematics)
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage– KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover (movie)
- KINGDOM HEARTS III
“Every game” needs a precise definition. These packages contain the modern console and PC narrative set, including two entries presented as HD video compilations and one presented as a movie. Older browser and mobile services are not all included as playable software in these bundles; some material is represented indirectly, while the availability of delisted mobile services varies by region and time.
What each modern collection contains
KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-
This is the foundation of the playthrough. Square Enix describes it as an essential collection of the first six stories in the series. It contains:
- Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days as an HD cutscene compilation
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts Re:coded as an HD cutscene compilation
The two video compilations are part of the package’s story coverage, but they are not playable versions of their original games. Plan to watch them when the order below reaches them rather than searching the menus for a conventional game mode.

The second package bridges the early collections and Kingdom Hearts III. It includes:
- Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD
- Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, an HD movie
- Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –
χ Back Cover is a film rather than an interactive remake of the browser-era title. Treat it as a required story chapter in the sequence, not as an optional trailer.
KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind
The final package contains:
- Kingdom Hearts III
- Re Mind downloadable content
Re Mind is included in this package, so you do not need to locate a separate modern collection merely to obtain the DLC. Play it after completing the main Kingdom Hearts III story; placing it earlier would spoil the intended progression.
Exact play order, with the role of every entry
Use the following order inside the three packages. The placement follows release order and the sequence presented for a first playthrough, not the fictional timeline.

1. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
Begin here. This is the original adventure in its Final Mix form and establishes the characters, worlds and terminology that later entries expect you to recognize. Starting with another title means encountering references before their introductions.
2. Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
Play this immediately after Final Mix. It bridges the first game and Kingdom Hearts II, so skipping it can make the opening and character relationships in the next entry feel abrupt. It is a full playable game, not a summary video.
Rank #2
- Brand New, Factory Sealed
- Genre: Strategy & Role-Playing
- Subgenre: Action RPG
- Brand: Square Enix
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue PS4
3. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
Continue with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. The “Final Mix” label identifies the version included in the modern collection; it is not a separate sequel that should be postponed until after the other packages.
4. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
After Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, watch the HD cutscene compilation for 358/2 Days. The collection supplies the story as edited video rather than the original handheld gameplay. Because it is a compilation, expect a viewing experience rather than menus, combat or a save file.
5. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
Next, play Birth by Sleep Final Mix. It is a playable entry in the first package and is placed here in the recommended release-order route, even though its events explore an earlier part of the fictional history.
6. Kingdom Hearts Re:coded
Watch the Re:coded HD cutscene compilation after Birth by Sleep Final Mix. As with 358/2 Days, this package preserves the narrative through video rather than a playable remake.
7. Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD
Move to HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and play Dream Drop Distance HD. It is the first playable title in that package and prepares the transition toward the final numbered game.
8. Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover
Watch χ Back Cover next. It is an HD movie, so do not confuse it with a playable version of the browser-era experience whose mythology it presents.

9. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –
Finish the 2.8 package with this short playable episode. Its purpose is to lead directly into Kingdom Hearts III, making it the natural final step before the numbered finale.
10. Kingdom Hearts III
Launch Kingdom Hearts III only after the preceding entries and films. The game is the culmination of the modern collection route, and arriving with the earlier story material fresh makes its opening and returning cast easier to follow.
11. Re Mind
After the main Kingdom Hearts III campaign, select the included Re Mind DLC. Keeping it until the end preserves the intended relationship between the base game’s conclusion and the additional episode.
Where you can play the collection now
The current-generation release map differs by platform. “Native” means the package runs as software for that platform rather than through a cloud stream.
| Platform | Current option | Format and availability notes |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] | Native collection with physical and digital purchase paths |
| Xbox Series X|S | KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] | Native digital collection |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] | Native collection with physical and digital options; physical edition needs an internet download for additional data |
| Windows PC | Collection through the Microsoft Store on Windows | Native Windows release; the official product page also links Steam and Epic Games Store listings for the collection components |
| Nintendo Switch | KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- | Native first package; older cloud editions and current-store availability should be checked for your region |
| PlayStation 4 and Xbox One | Earlier individual or cloud versions | Previous options exist, but the current all-in-one recommendation is the native current-generation package |
PlayStation 5
On PS5, choose the native Collection [I~III] in either physical or digital form. A physical copy is useful if you collect discs or want a boxed edition, but it is not an offline-only solution: Square Enix states that the physical PlayStation edition requires an internet connection to download additional data. Install the packages, open HD 1.5+2.5 first, and follow the eleven-step order above.
Xbox Series X|S
Xbox Series X|S has a native digital version of the combined collection. Confirm that the store listing is the current-generation collection rather than an older individual or cloud product. Once installed, begin with HD 1.5+2.5; the story order is identical to the PlayStation route.
Nintendo Switch 2
Switch 2 offers the native Collection [I~III] with physical and digital options. The physical edition still needs an internet connection to download additional data, so plan the initial installation before travelling or playing offline. Use the same package sequence: 1.5+2.5, then 2.8, then III plus Re Mind.
Windows PC
Windows players can use the native collection on the Microsoft Store. Square Enix’s official product page also links Steam and Epic Games Store listings for the collection components, so storefront presentation can differ even though the recommended story order does not. Check the store page for your region and select all three packages if you want the complete modern route.
Original Nintendo Switch
The original Switch has a native listing for HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX. The older platform also has cloud editions, but current-store availability is regional and can change. If you own only the original Switch, verify whether the 2.8 and III portions are available to you through a supported cloud listing; otherwise, use a platform with the native all-in-one collection. Do not assume that owning the original Switch version of 1.5+2.5 automatically provides the other two packages.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
Previous individual or cloud versions exist for these consoles. They remain possible routes where a current listing is available, but they are not the straightforward native current-generation package described for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check the store listing carefully before buying separate products.
How to choose what to buy
Choose the combined collection when you want the least complicated route
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is the simplest purchase because it combines HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. You do not have to match three separate product pages or wonder whether the final DLC is missing.
Choose individual packages only for a specific platform or partial playthrough
The three packages are also sold individually. Buying separately can make sense if your platform lists only one native package, if you already own an earlier collection, or if you want to start with the first six stories before committing to the later entries. Confirm the contents of each listing: 1.5+2.5 does not include 2.8, and 2.8 does not include III.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Includes 10 Magical KINGDOM HEARTS experiences – A perfect way to begin the legendary KINGDOM HEARTS series
- Travel to beloved Disney and Pixar worlds to defend them from the evil heartless
- Unlock the power of the Keyblade and team up with Final Fantasy, Disney, and Pixar characters in the ultimate battle against darkness
- Test your battle skills with multiple combat possibilities, including powerful spells and team-up attacks
- Uncover the Dark Seeker Saga and learn about the legendary Keyblade Masters
Check the edition, region and seller before paying
Prices, stock and storefront availability change by region and date. For a physical listing, confirm the seller, territory and that the product is the current-generation edition. The useful product wording for a PS5 search is “Kingdom Hearts Collection [I–III] PS5,” but the final listing still needs to be checked for seller, region, stock and physical-versus-digital format.
Plan for the required download with physical editions
Physical PlayStation and Switch 2 editions require an internet connection to download additional data. Treat the internet download as part of the installation requirement, not as an optional update. If you need a completely download-free purchase, the documented physical editions do not meet that requirement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Step-by-step setup on a modern system
- Identify your platform. Use the native Collection [I~III] on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 or Windows. On the original Switch, start by checking the native 1.5+2.5 listing and then verify regional options for the later packages.
- Confirm the package contents. Make sure your purchase includes 1.5+2.5, 2.8 and III plus Re Mind if you want every modern narrative component in one route.
- Complete the initial installation. Physical PS5 and Switch 2 copies require an internet connection for additional data. Allow that process to finish before beginning.
- Open 1.5+2.5 first. Start with Final Mix, not with Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance or Kingdom Hearts III.
- Follow the sequence inside the package. Play Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix; then watch 358/2 Days; play Birth by Sleep Final Mix; and watch Re:coded.
- Switch to 2.8. Play Dream Drop Distance HD, watch χ Back Cover, and play 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –.
- Finish with III and its DLC. Complete Kingdom Hearts III, then launch Re Mind.
What “every Kingdom Hearts game” includes—and what it does not
The practical modern-console definition covers every story component Square Enix currently packages in the three collections: seven playable games or episodes, two HD cutscene compilations, one HD movie, and the Re Mind DLC. Counting only playable software would understate what the collections provide, because 358/2 Days, Re:coded and χ Back Cover carry story material in video form.
The bundles do not constitute a promise that every historical browser or mobile release is still playable. Some older entries are represented indirectly, and this guide does not claim current access or pricing for delisted mobile services. If your definition of “every” includes those services as interactive software, no single current native collection listed here satisfies that broader requirement.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Starting with the chronological timeline
Birth by Sleep and other titles explore earlier events in the fictional chronology, but the recommended first-playthrough order is release order. Starting chronologically can reveal information that the series expects you to learn later and can make recurring characters less meaningful.
Skipping the video entries
The HD compilations are not filler. 358/2 Days and Re:coded are supplied as story videos, while χ Back Cover is an HD movie. Watch them at their listed points even though they do not offer the same controls as the playable games.
Assuming every package is included in every Switch version
The original Switch listing is for native HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX. Switch 2 has the native all-in-one collection. Cloud editions and regional storefront listings on the older console need to be checked individually.
Expecting a physical copy to work without an internet connection
The physical PS5 and Switch 2 editions download additional data. Complete that download before relying on the installation away from an internet connection.

PS4 and Xbox One pages can show individual or cloud products, while the current recommendation for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is the native collection. Read the platform label and delivery method before checkout.
Playing Re Mind before the main game
Re Mind belongs after the Kingdom Hearts III campaign. Launching it first breaks the intended progression between the base game and its additional episode.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Choose the platform on which you will complete all three packages.
- Verify that the listing contains 1.5+2.5, 2.8 and III plus Re Mind.
- For physical PS5 or Switch 2 editions, make sure you have an internet connection for the additional-data download.
- On original Switch, confirm regional cloud or storefront availability for entries beyond 1.5+2.5.
- Check seller, region, stock and edition when buying physical media.
- Keep the release-order list available so the two cutscene compilations and the χ Back Cover movie are not skipped.
Square Enix announced the native current-generation collection on June 10, 2026. Because storefront stock, prices and regional listings can change, verify those details at the time you buy rather than relying on an old product page.
