Horde Siege is a cooperative PvE mode for 12 players: three squads of four share a battlefield, complete missions and changing objectives, then fight to extract. Choose a class and playlist, work through the R.I.G. objectives, spend your squad’s shared Energy carefully, and help keep teammates alive. After the final objective, clear the landing zone and hold out for the Raven; at least one squad member must escape for the mission to count as complete and to keep the Weapon Parts collected during it.
What happens in Horde Siege?
Three four-player squads operate on one persistent battlefield. Each squad has its own missions, but squads can cross paths, encounter dynamic events, and benefit from resources or fortifications left by other players. The Coalition describes the mode’s core as surviving the Locust, supporting your squad, and using your firepower effectively (The Coalition’s multiplayer overview, July 30, 2026).
Most missions revolve around a R.I.G.—a Resonation Imaging Geographer, COG scanning equipment repurposed to map Locust tunnels beneath Kalona. The launch objective types are Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, and Horde. Complete the main objectives, decide whether optional tasks and supplies are worth the added risk, and finish by extracting.
Choose a class for how you want to fight
There are four classes, and The Coalition says no particular squad composition is required: mix roles or have all four players choose the same class. Pick based on the combat distance and support job you prefer, rather than treating any class as mandatory.

Pick a playlist to match your time and play style

Those durations are official typical estimates, not guaranteed match lengths. Choose Blitz if you have less time; choose Horde if you want the fixed-position, wave-based defense. Playlist formats and estimates come from The Coalition’s multiplayer overview.

How to play a mission, step by step
- Choose your class, playlist, and difficulty. Horde Siege difficulty scales with class level. The Coalition’s overview suggests Infantry for class levels 10–20, Commander for 20–30, and Allfather for max-level classes. Treat those as guidance rather than a fixed rule: balance can change, and the current in-game recommendation should take precedence.
- Complete the main R.I.G. objectives. Follow the objective markers and handle the listed task—Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, or Horde—before moving on. In Siege, expect to travel between multiple objectives.
- Weigh optional objectives and COG Resupplies. Secondary tasks may reward Weapon Parts, equipment, or Squad Perks. COG Resupplies can also provide items, but they attract Locust forces. Take an optional fight when your squad is in a position to manage the extra pressure; skip or delay it when the exposure is not worth the reward.
- Use Energy as a squad resource. Energy earned from objectives and defeating enemies goes into a shared squad pool. At Supply Caches, each player makes individual purchases of equipment, weapons, and Squad Perks from that pool. Energy can also buy or upgrade turret installations at defensive positions, so coordinate spending when several players need supplies.
- Recover teammates and protect Squad Lives. A killed player drops COG tags. Take the tags to a Supply Cache to revive that player, or let a player from another squad pick them up for an instant revive. A full-squad wipe consumes a Squad Life; losing all Squad Lives fails the mission.
- Extract after the objectives. Clear the landing zone, then survive until the Raven arrives. At least one squad member must escape for mission completion and to retain the Weapon Parts earned during the mission. Try to bring the whole squad out, but the mode’s stated completion condition is that at least one member extracts.

Combat habits that help the squad
Think about where the next fight will happen before leaving cover. The Coalition’s July 31 gameplay update describes more cover types and movement options, while emphasizing that a poor move can still leave a Gear exposed. Move between cover rather than crossing exposed ground casually, and regroup to talk through a stalled objective instead of repeatedly pushing in without a plan (The Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day Gameplay Updates).

- Use the class ability to support the current task: stuns can interrupt pressure on a defense, tagging helps focus targets, and healing or revives can stabilize a team.
- Before taking an optional objective or supply drop, consider whether your squad can handle the Locust attention it may bring.
- Keep track of downed players and Squad Lives; a rescue can be more valuable than chasing an extra reward.
- Check weapon mods and current class or difficulty descriptions in-game. The Coalition has adjusted Repair and Invasion difficulty, Commander and Allfather difficulty, Medic Stim duration, equipment and Squad Perk Energy costs, and Weapon Part rewards in updates, so old build or value claims can become stale.
Where to find the mode and what you need to play
Open the game’s multiplayer menu and follow its on-screen playlist flow to Horde Siege. The official sources do not establish a precise, current sequence of menu labels or button presses, so use the labels shown in your installed version rather than relying on an assumed path.
The publisher lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam, and its editions page includes a physical Standard Edition. Online Horde Siege may require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately; check the current terms for your platform and region on the publisher’s E-Day editions page.

Gears of War: E-Day’s global release date was October 6, 2026, according to the publisher. Season 1: Emergence began in September 2026 and was scheduled for eight weeks through December 1, 2026; its planned limited themed events include a Versus event mode, a Horde Siege event mission, and rewards.
