Games Like P.T.: Psychological Horror Games for Uncanny Spaces and Slow-Building Dread

Four psychological horror games for different parts of P.T.’s appeal: Visage’s documented influence, MADiSON’s camera puzzles, Layers of Fear’s shifting home, and SOMA’s sci-fi dread.

If you want a game with P.T.’s claustrophobic atmosphere, gradually tightening dread, first-person exploration, or environmental puzzles, start with Visage. Its developer explicitly says P.T. was a major influence. MADiSON is a strong fit for camera-led exploration and puzzles; Layers of Fear for a domestic space that seems to warp around you; and SOMA for investigative, science-fiction horror. None is an objective replacement for P.T.—each emphasizes a different part of the experience.

Which game should you play after P.T.?

Game Best match for Setting and play style Platform information established here
Visage The clearest documented P.T. influence A house with a terrible history; slow tension, exploration, environmental clues, and threats to evade Xbox lists Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; cloud play is listed subject to a qualifying Game Pass plan. Check current regional availability.
MADiSON Puzzles and first-person exploration built around a camera A possessed instant camera connects the human world with the beyond; explore, solve puzzles, and survive The cited PlayStation listing is for PS4 and says playable on PS5, with some PS4 features possibly absent.
Layers of Fear A threatening home that changes around the player A Victorian house twists through fear and decay, with spinning and seemingly endless rooms The cited source is a 2018 critical discussion, not a current store listing; verify present platforms and editions.
SOMA Existential story and science-fiction dread Investigation in the underwater facility PATHOS-II; outsmart or run from danger rather than fight back PlayStation lists a PS4 release and says playable on PS5, with some PS4 features possibly absent.

These are different kinds of horror, not entries on a single “scariest” scale. Choose by the element you want most: an uncanny house, puzzle-focused exploration, shifting architecture, or a science-fiction mystery.

Visage: the closest documented connection to P.T.

SadSquare Studio, the developer of Visage, directly identifies P.T. as a major inspiration. The studio says: “Though we were heavily inspired by the brilliant and matchless P.T., we also drew upon influences from classic psychological horror games like Phantasmagoria and from more recent ones like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, as well as from horror movies like The Grudge.” SadSquare Studio’s site makes this the clearest recommendation if you specifically want to follow P.T.’s influence.

Visage takes place in a house with a terrible history. Xbox’s description emphasizes slow tension, exploration, environmental clues, a changing house, and a sanity mechanic. The player is defenseless and must avoid or evade threats, so the appeal is not combat mastery but enduring an increasingly unsettling place.

Xbox lists the game for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and lists cloud play subject to a qualifying Game Pass plan. Its listing gives October 30, 2020 as the release date. Platforms and availability can vary by territory and storefront, so check the Xbox listing for current details.

MADiSON: camera puzzles and beyond-facing exploration

MADiSON is a first-person psychological horror game whose central tool is a possessed instant camera. PlayStation describes using it to connect the human world with the beyond, solve puzzles, explore, and survive. That makes it the most direct pick here if you want the act of investigating a space and manipulating clues to be central to play.

The official MADiSON site calls it a “FIRST PERSON PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR GAME” and says “OUT NOW” (page observed October 7, 2026). PlayStation lists a PS4 release date of July 8, 2022; that version is playable on PS5, though some PS4 features may be absent. See the PlayStation listing for its platform-specific details.

Layers of Fear: a home that refuses to stay stable

If what stayed with you in P.T. was the sense that a familiar domestic space could become impossible to trust, Layers of Fear is worth considering. A specialist discussion in the Irish Journal of Gothic and Horror Studies places it in a first-person horror tradition of investigation, puzzle solving, evasive action, and threatening domestic spaces. It describes a Victorian house that twists through fear and decay, including spinning and seemingly endless rooms.

Necrophosis: Full Consciousness - PlayStation 5
  • Roam the cursed lands: Awaken as consciousness itself in a realm of death, a world consumed by Necrophosis. Explore freely through its dark macabre landscapes where all things rot and decay eternally. Navigate eerie landscapes, grotesque architecture and haunting visuals that bring Lovecraftian and cosmic horror to life.
  • Uncover hidden truths: Delve into evocative narrative poems and unravel the world’s enigmatic backstory while engaging with decayed gods caught in an eternal cycle of death and rebirth.
  • Master chilling puzzles: Solve unsettling puzzles as you explore a world consumed by rot. Certain challenges demand brain detachment and possession, while others rely on careful observation. Face gods, eldritch entities, and Lovecraftian beings who have taken refuge here, learning their histories and the horrors they embody. Each environment features minimalist, droning ambience, layered with whispers, distant groans, and echoing cryptic voices that heighten tension and unease.
  • Second Awakening: Return to the realm of death in the Necrophosis: Subconsciousness expansion. Explore new landscapes, entities, and story as your journey leads ever deeper. Includes Bonus Game – The Shore: Andrew ventures into the unknown to find his lost daughter, exploring a forbidden island of nightmarish entities and solving puzzles that test his sanity.
  • Languages: English in-game voice. English, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, and Ukrainian in-game text.

This description comes from a critical discussion published in Autumn 2018, not a current platform or storefront page. It supports the comparison in atmosphere and setting, but does not establish which editions or platforms are available now. Consult a current store listing before choosing a version. Read the journal issue.

SOMA: trade the haunted house for existential science-fiction horror

SOMA is the option for players who care more about unsettling ideas and investigation than a haunted-house loop. PlayStation places it in PATHOS-II, an underwater facility where resources are failing and machines seem to think they are people. You explore terminals and documents, then outsmart or run from danger rather than fighting back.

How to choose based on what you liked about P.T.

  • You want the strongest explicit link: choose Visage; its developer names P.T. as a major influence.
  • You want exploration and puzzle interactions: choose MADiSON for its camera-led approach.
  • You want a domestic space that seems to warp: consider Layers of Fear.
  • You want narrative investigation in a science-fiction setting: choose SOMA.

A public discussion uses the phrase “similar games to pt” and asks for games with P.T.’s “vibes and atmosphere.” That wording captures the appeal, but it is one reader discussion rather than evidence of how common the request is. P.T.’s present download or play status is not established by the sources cited here, so check authoritative current information if availability is part of your decision.
