The important distinction is that the TV does not automatically run every Jackbox purchase. A compatible device must host the game and show it on the television. Players normally use their phones, tablets, or computers as controllers by visiting Jackbox.tv—they do not need to buy their own copy.

Method 1: Install Jackbox directly on the smart TV or streaming device
This is the cleanest setup when your television or connected streaming device supports the game.

- Open its native app store.
- Search for Jackbox Games.
- Check that the exact Jackbox pack you want is listed for that device before buying or installing it.
- Purchase or install the title through that platform’s store.
- Launch the pack, choose a game, and leave the game displayed on the TV.
Jackbox’s current platform guidance identifies Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, certain Amazon Fire Sticks and Fire Cubes, and certain Android smart TVs as compatible direct-play options. That is not a blanket guarantee for every television in one of those categories. Some smart TVs may not show Jackbox in Google Play, and Roku is not currently supported according to the platform guidance. Check the actual app-store listing on your model rather than relying only on the TV brand or operating-system name.
If your television lacks the app but has an HDMI port, an Amazon Fire TV Stick can be a practical fallback because certain Fire TV Stick models are among the devices Jackbox identifies as supported. Confirm the exact model, region, and desired pack in the device’s app store before purchasing; not every Fire Stick model should be assumed to support every Jackbox title.
How players join a directly installed game
- Start a game on the TV.
- Read the four-letter room code shown on the game screen.
- Each player opens a browser on a phone, tablet, or computer.
- Go to Jackbox.tv.
- Enter the room code, type a player name, and choose Play.
Players do not normally use the TV remote or a console controller to answer questions. Their personal devices display prompts and provide the controls. The host should use a second device as the controller because the device displaying the game cannot also be used for normal answer entry.
Method 2: Run Jackbox on a computer and connect it to the TV with HDMI
Connecting a laptop or desktop to the television is the most dependable fallback when the native TV app is unavailable. Jackbox specifically describes using a laptop and HDMI to display computer-hosted games on a larger TV.

- Connect the computer to an open HDMI input on the TV.
- Use the TV remote to select the matching HDMI source.
- Move the game window to the TV or mirror the computer’s display.
- Start the game and share the room code with the players.
- Have each player join at Jackbox.tv from a separate internet-connected device.
The computer hosting the game needs internet access because Jackbox games connect to Jackbox’s servers. Players also need internet-capable phones, tablets, or computers for the controller page. If your laptop does not have a full-size HDMI port, you may need a compatible video adapter in addition to a laptop-to-TV HDMI cable. The cable is necessary only for this computer-to-TV setup, not for a native app or Netflix Games setup.
Computer-to-TV checklist
- Jackbox is installed on the computer where you bought it.
- The computer is connected to the internet.
- The HDMI cable is plugged into the computer and the TV.
- The TV is set to the correct HDMI input.
- Audio output is set to the TV if sound is still coming from the laptop.
- Every player has a separate browser device for Jackbox.tv.
Method 3: Play the Jackbox collection available through Netflix Games
Netflix offers a separate route for eligible subscribers and devices. If your compatible TV or browser shows a Games tab in Netflix, it may provide access to The Jackbox Party Essentials. That collection includes Drawful 2, Quiplash 3, and Fibbage 4.
This is not the same as buying a traditional Jackbox Party Pack. It does not provide the entire Jackbox library, and access depends on your Netflix account, country or region, device compatibility, and whether the Games tab is actually available.

- Look for the Games tab or the Jackbox Party Essentials listing.
- Launch the collection and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When prompted, scan the QR code or install and use the Netflix Game Controller app on a phone.
- Follow the displayed instructions for joining and answering.
If Netflix does not show the Games tab, do not assume that your regular Jackbox purchase will appear there. Use the native-app, HDMI, or console method instead.

Method 4: Use a console connected to the TV
A PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, or another platform listed as compatible can host supported Jackbox titles on the TV. The setup is similar to any console game: connect the platform, install or purchase the desired pack from that platform’s store, launch it, and have players join with their browsers at Jackbox.tv.
Do not assume that buying a pack on Steam, a console, Apple TV, or another platform gives you the same pack everywhere. Jackbox says purchases generally remain tied to the platform where they were made. Apple has a limited ecosystem exception for universal purchases of Party Pack 7 and later listed titles, including Party Packs 8 through 11, The Jackbox Party Starter, and The Jackbox Naughty Pack. Verify the exact store listing and pack before relying on cross-device access.
What you need before starting
- A compatible smart TV, Apple TV, supported Amazon Fire TV device, Android TV device, computer, or console.
- The desired Jackbox title purchased for the platform that will host it—or an eligible Netflix Games setup.
- Internet access for the host device.
- An internet-capable phone, tablet, or computer for every player.
- An HDMI cable or compatible display adapter if the host is a laptop or desktop.
- A TV large enough for everyone to read the game screen comfortably.
Fix common Jackbox-on-TV problems
The Jackbox app does not appear in the TV’s app store
Search the exact app store on the TV or connected device for Jackbox Games. Confirm that the device’s region and operating system are supported, then check the individual title listing. A smart-TV brand alone does not establish compatibility. Jackbox notes that some smart TVs cannot see the game in Google Play, and Roku is not currently supported.

Players cannot join
- Make sure everyone is visiting Jackbox.tv, not a search result or an unrelated site.
- Confirm that the current four-letter room code is entered correctly.
- Check that each player has entered a name and selected Play.
- Refresh the browser if the room was restarted and a new code appeared.
- Make sure cookies, WebSockets, HTML5, and JavaScript are enabled. Modern browsers generally support these requirements.
- Use a separate device for each player; the game-display device is not normally the answer-entry controller.
The game cannot connect to Jackbox’s servers
Restart the game and the host device, then reboot the router. On a computer, check whether a firewall or antivirus program is blocking the game. If the problem continues, try a wired connection or another Wi-Fi network when practical. Players may also need to switch networks if their phones cannot load Jackbox.tv.
Apple TV navigation is difficult
Depending on the Apple TV model and remote, navigation may require swiping on the newer Siri Remote. You can also use the Apple TV Remote app on an iPhone or iPad to navigate more easily.
The text is hard to read
Use the TV for the shared game display and personal devices for prompts and answers. Increase the viewing distance only if the text remains legible for everyone. Recent Jackbox packs include additional accessibility features, including subtitles in Party Packs 8, 9, 10, and later titles; check the individual game’s settings for the features it supports.

What about Jackbox’s planned smart-TV streaming app?
Jackbox announced an ad-supported smart-TV streaming app using AWS GameLift Streams, with an intended beta on one or two smart-TV platforms during summer 2026. The announcement did not establish universal availability, a final platform list, pricing, or a guaranteed launch date. Treat it as a developing option, not proof that Jackbox now runs directly on every smart TV. Check the current app store and Jackbox’s latest announcement before planning around it.

Which method should you use?
- Already own Apple TV, Fire TV, or a compatible Android TV? Search the device’s app store first. Native play is the tidiest setup if the exact pack is available.
- Your TV has HDMI but no Jackbox app? Use a laptop or desktop. This is usually the safest compatibility fallback.
- You already subscribe to Netflix and see Games? Try The Jackbox Party Essentials, but expect only Drawful 2, Quiplash 3, and Fibbage 4 rather than the full catalog.
- You own a supported console? Buy or launch the pack on that console and keep the purchase on that platform.
- You are buying hardware specifically for Jackbox? Confirm the exact device model and app listing before purchase. Compatibility is model-specific, especially for Fire TV devices and Android smart TVs.
For most households, the decision is simple: try the native app store if you have a supported device; otherwise connect a computer by HDMI. In every case, the TV displays the game while each player uses a browser-enabled personal device as a controller.

Can every smart TV run Jackbox?

Does Netflix include all Jackbox games?
Netflix Games provides The Jackbox Party Essentials, which includes Drawful 2, Quiplash 3, and Fibbage 4, on eligible accounts and compatible devices that show the Games tab. It is not the full Jackbox catalog.
