Set up a dance session on Switch
- Launch the edition you own. Nintendo’s US listing identifies Just Dance 2026 Edition, released October 14, 2025, as the latest edition as of October 8, 2026. It includes 40 new tracks. [Nintendo]
- Choose TV or tabletop mode. These are the play modes listed for the 2026 edition. Set the screen where you can see the dance coach while moving.
- Connect your controller. Use a Joy-Con and follow the game’s prompts to select a song and start. For the 2026 edition’s phone-camera option, install the free Just Dance Controller app on a compatible smartphone and pair it as prompted. [Ubisoft]
- Make space to move safely. Keep the controller secure in your hand and clear nearby obstacles before dancing.
The basic play loop is to watch the on-screen coach and imitate the choreography. The game scores your performance through the selected input method.

Choose a controller
Joy-Con: the Switch-native option
Joy-Con controllers can be used wirelessly and, depending on the game and play style, can be held separately. Nintendo’s general guidance explains pairing and use; the exact supported configuration for a song or mode is shown by the game. [Nintendo Support]
For solo play, Joy-Con avoids setting up a phone camera. For a group, check how many controllers you have and follow the in-game prompts. The 2026 edition’s six-player local limit is a game ceiling, not a guarantee that every controller arrangement works in every mode. An additional Joy-Con may help if your household needs more controllers, but it is not required for every solo player.

Phone Camera Controller Mode: solo play without holding a Joy-Con
In Just Dance 2026 Edition, Camera Controller Mode uses a smartphone camera for full-body motion recognition and scoring. Ubisoft says it is currently single-player only, so it is not a way to add camera-tracked players to a local group. The free Just Dance Controller app requires iOS 14.4 or later or Android 9 or later; Nintendo UK says no additional accessories are required for this mode. [Ubisoft] [Nintendo UK]
Official descriptions explain the camera option but do not provide comparative accuracy measurements, so there is no supported basis for calling it more accurate than Joy-Con.

Playing on Switch Lite
Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch Lite; they do not attach to the console. Nintendo cautions that “Software compatibility and play experience may differ on Nintendo Switch Lite.” That means you should not assume the display or overall experience will be identical to playing on a standard Switch. Local multiplayer and game modes
Nintendo lists one-system play for one to six players in the 2026 edition. Ubisoft says Party Mode supports solo play or up to six local players, with shorter songs and visual or action disruptions. Before choosing an edition or mode, consider the songs you want, your preferred controller, how many people will play locally, and whether you want access to the additional Just Dance+ catalog.
Which edition and songs can you access?
Nintendo UK’s Just Dance hub brings owned content from the 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 editions together in one place on the same console. Buying one edition does not automatically unlock the songs included in the others; ownership still matters. Keep local dancing separate from online features. Nintendo’s UK listing says Just Dance+ requires an Ubisoft account, a console account, persistent internet access, and a paid fee or ongoing subscription; age and territory restrictions apply. Nintendo’s US 2026 listing also identifies account, internet, and platform-subscription requirements for online features. The official listings reviewed do not fully establish whether every already-owned song can be started offline or which connectivity checks may occur, so do not count on offline access without checking the requirements for your edition and region. Just Dance+ pricing in the United States
Ubisoft’s US service page displayed the following prices when checked on October 8, 2026. They are US prices, not a universal or guaranteed future price.
