You can play both games on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S using their prior-console releases through backward compatibility: look for Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition. Neither the reviewed official store listings nor 2K’s support information establishes native PS5 or Series X|S versions, or a specific current-console frame rate or resolution.
Which versions should you get?
The simplest option for both games is Mafia: Trilogy. It includes Mafia II: Definitive Edition, Mafia III with Definitive Edition content, and Mafia: Definitive Edition. 2K also offers the Definitive Editions of Mafia II and Mafia III as standalone purchases. Check your console store or library for the individual game entries; the bundle may not appear as one launchable title. Official listings confirm what the bundle contains but do not specify a universal installation sequence.
The console Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a separate title from the older console release of Mafia II. 2K says owning the older PS3 or Xbox 360 game does not automatically grant the Definitive Edition, so check your library or store listing rather than assuming the upgrade is included. 2K’s Mafia: Trilogy FAQ explains the edition and ownership distinctions.
Play on PS5
- Search the PlayStation Store or your library for the PS4 version of Mafia II: Definitive Edition or Mafia III: Definitive Edition. You can also access both through Mafia: Trilogy.
- Download and install the game you want, then launch its individual entry. PlayStation identifies the Trilogy as a PS4 product that is playable on PS5, while warning that some PS4 features may be absent. See the PlayStation Store listing.
- If you have a physical PS4 disc, insert it to play. You need a PS5 with a disc drive; a disc cannot be used in a disc-free PS5.
The relevant PlayStation release is the PS4 version running on PS5 compatibility, not a confirmed native PS5 edition. The official material cited here does not specify a Mafia II or Mafia III frame rate or resolution on PS5.

- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Play on Xbox Series X|S
- Search your Xbox library or the Xbox Store for Mafia II: Definitive Edition, Mafia III, or Mafia: Trilogy.
- Choose the individual game entry you want to install. The Trilogy may be presented as separate game entries rather than a single title to launch.
- Install and launch the selected game. The Xbox Store listing identifies the Trilogy as playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
The Xbox listing advertises HDR10 and Xbox One X Enhanced capability for the bundle. Those labels do not establish a Series X|S-specific performance upgrade, resolution, or frame rate for either Mafia II or Mafia III.
What the Definitive Editions include
| Game | Included content |
|---|---|
| Mafia II: Definitive Edition | The base game, story DLC Betrayal of Jimmy, Jimmy’s Vendetta, and Joe’s Adventures, plus the Greaser, Renegade, Vegas, and War Hero bonus packs. 2K says the bonus-pack content unlocks by completing main-story chapters. |
| Mafia III: Definitive Edition | The base game, story DLC Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times, plus the Family Kick-Back and Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons packs. |
These inclusions are described in 2K’s FAQ. It also says that existing Mafia III owners on PS4, Xbox One, or Steam were granted Definitive Edition without charge, and console owners needed to download the Mafia III DLC Content Pack from their store for the added content. That is a historical entitlement rule for those platforms, not a guarantee about every current account or purchase.

Before you buy
- Compare the Trilogy with the two standalone editions if you want both games; the Trilogy also includes the first Mafia: Definitive Edition.
- For a physical PlayStation copy, search for Mafia: Trilogy PS4. A PS5 disc-drive model is required to use a PS4 disc.
- Confirm the platform, edition, and included DLC on the store page before purchasing. Prices and availability vary, and the official pages cited here do not establish a current local price or stock.
- The Xbox listing confirms digital bundle availability and Series X|S compatibility; it does not establish a physical Xbox Series edition.
PlayStation’s Mafia: Trilogy overview also describes the collection and its content. The 2026 60 fps upgrade for Mafia: Definitive Edition is for the first game and does not establish equivalent upgrades for Mafia II or Mafia III.
