If you own a PS5, use Sony’s PS Remote Play app to stream the console’s game session to a Windows PC or Mac. The PS5 still runs the game; this is not native PC play. Sony’s PlayStation Plus PC app is a separate option for streaming eligible PS4 catalog games and select Classics titles—not PS5 games, according to Sony’s current US PC-app guidance.
Which option lets you play your own PS5 games?
PS Remote Play is Sony’s route for controlling your own PS5 from a PC or Mac. The console must be available and the game must be accessible on it. Your computer receives a stream of the console session; it does not run the PS5 game itself.
Sony’s Remote Play guidance excludes games that require a VR headset or additional peripherals beyond supported controllers, as well as games that must be streamed through PS Plus Premium. Check the game’s requirements if it relies on a special accessory.
Can the PlayStation Plus PC app stream PS5 games?
Sony’s US PlayStation Plus PC guide describes streaming PS4 Game Catalog games and select Classics Catalog titles through the PC app for Premium members. Some PS4 catalog games are not available to stream. Sony’s US catalog and streaming FAQ distinguishes this from PS5 cloud streaming: its stated PS5 streaming options are PS5 consoles and PlayStation Portal, and PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5 console. Do not treat the PC app as a way to stream PS5 titles.

The two routes therefore serve different libraries: Remote Play accesses a game running on your console; the Plus PC app streams eligible titles from Sony’s service catalog. Catalog availability can vary by title, plan, region, and time.

Set up PS Remote Play on a PC or Mac
- Check the computer and network. Sony lists Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11, a seventh-generation Intel Core processor or later, 2 GB RAM, 100 MB available storage, a display of at least 1024 × 768, a sound card, and a USB port for Windows. For Mac, Sony lists macOS Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia, or Tahoe, with 2 GB RAM and 40 MB available storage. Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download generally, and at least 15 Mbps upload and download for best Remote Play performance. These requirements may change; consult Sony’s support page for the current list.
- Install the official PS Remote Play app from Sony’s PC and Mac Remote Play instructions.
- Enable Remote Play on the PS5. On the console, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- Allow the console to wake over the network, if needed. To start Remote Play while the PS5 is in Rest Mode, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network.
- Connect a supported controller. Sony’s Remote Play instructions specify connecting a DualSense, DualSense Edge, or DUALSHOCK 4 to the computer by USB. A compatible controller you already own may be sufficient.
- Sign in and connect. Open the app, sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console, choose PS5, and follow the prompts to connect. Start the game on the console session shown in the app.
Use the PlayStation Plus PC app for eligible catalog games
This is a different streaming service, not a replacement interface for your PS5. Sony’s US guide requires an active PlayStation Plus Premium membership, a PlayStation Network account with registered payment details, an active broadband connection, a compatible controller, and an account holder aged 18 or older. Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps for streaming and at least 15 Mbps for 1080p. Its listed Windows minimums are Windows 10, an Intel Core i3 at 2.0 GHz, 300 MB available storage, 2 GB RAM, a sound card, and a USB port.

Install Sony’s free PC app, sign in, and choose a game marked as streamable in the available catalog. Sony lists DUALSHOCK 4 or another compatible controller for the PC app; some third-party PC XInput controllers may work, but Sony does not guarantee full compatibility. Do not assume controller support is identical across the PC app and Remote Play.

- You own a PS5 and want a game from your console library: use Remote Play, provided the title and its peripherals are compatible.
- You want to play a game from Sony’s service catalog without a console session: check whether it is streamable in the Plus PC app and whether Premium is worthwhile for your use.
- You want a specific PS5 title through the PC app: Sony’s documented US PC-app catalog does not include PS5 game streaming. Remote Play is the documented PC route when the game is running on your own console.
- Your internet connection is the concern: keep the speed guidance attached to the service. Remote Play’s recommendation is 5 Mbps in both directions generally and 15 Mbps in both directions for best performance; Sony’s Plus PC guidance recommends 5 Mbps for streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p.
Sony publishes requirements and recommendations, not a comparative latency or image-quality test for these options. Your experience will depend on your connection and setup; the published figures alone do not establish which route will feel faster or look better.
