Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Enable. Physical games can also be installed from a disc on a PS5 with a disc drive. Whether a game or mode works offline still depends on its requirements.
Set up your PS5 for offline play
Prepare the console before an outage or trip: Sony requires an internet connection and account sign-in to purchase and download PlayStation Store games. Its Console Sharing and Offline Play support page says the feature lets you “Play your games and media even when the console is offline.”
- While online, sign in to the PlayStation account that owns the digital game, then download and install it.
- On the PS5 you intend to use offline, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable. Sony says the feature is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in with the account.
- Launch the installed game while still connected to confirm it opens, and check the game’s requirements for any online-only modes or services.
Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on only one PS5 at a time for an account. To move it, disable the feature on the previous console before enabling it on the new one. Sony says remote deactivation of all devices is available only once every six months.
Digital games and disc games work differently

Digital games
Sony says downloaded games can be played offline when Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled. Buying or downloading a game you do not already have requires internet, so an uninstalled digital game cannot be obtained after you have gone offline.

Disc games
On a PS5 with a disc drive, insert the game disc, allow installation to finish, and select the game from Games home. Sony’s PS5 Quick Start Guide for the CFI-71XX model family describes this process and notes: “To purchase and download games, you’ll need to connect your console to the internet and sign in with your account.” Check your console configuration if you have a digital edition; a disc route requires a disc drive.
What can still require an internet connection
- Online-only modes and services: A game may need a connection for multiplayer, server-dependent features, or particular modes, even if its single-player content launches offline.
- Updates: Do not assume a disc or installed download includes every update a game may require. Check the title’s requirements before relying on it offline.
- PlayStation Plus games: Some benefits can be shared on the PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled. Access to subscription catalog games depends on an active subscription and the game remaining available. Shared access is not permanent ownership.
- Cloud streaming: Streaming requires an internet connection, so it is not an offline way to play.
Sony’s PlayStation Plus support page covers subscription benefits. Sony’s general setup information does not certify that every title, update, mode, or service is available offline; check the game’s own requirements when offline access matters.

If Console Sharing and Offline Play will not enable
Sony recommends checking whether the feature is enabled on another PS5, checking PlayStation Network status, ensuring the console has current system software, restarting the router and console, and trying again. Account activation and service-status checks may require a connection.
If a game shows a padlock, Sony identifies license or network issues as possible causes and provides separate troubleshooting guidance. That does not mean every license problem can be fixed while offline; restore connectivity if the console needs to verify access, then test the game again before relying on offline play.
