Roblox does not normally run as a fully browser-native game. On Windows and Mac, Roblox.com uses the browser to launch the Roblox Player, which must be installed. If you cannot install Roblox locally, the practical browser-only workaround is cloud streaming through a third-party service such as now.gg—provided it is available in your region and on your account.
Roblox.com is not the same as playing Roblox in a browser
You can use Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari to sign in to Roblox, browse experiences, manage your account, and click Play. However, on a supported Windows or Mac computer, that button normally installs or opens the Roblox application rather than running the game inside the webpage. Roblox’s official installation instructions describe this browser-to-player process.

Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Edge for its Windows website, and Chrome, Firefox, and Safari for its Mac website. These are supported browsers for the Roblox website—not proof that the Roblox game engine runs natively in the browser. Changing browsers may fix a launcher or connection problem, but it does not remove the normal app requirement.

The main no-local-download option identified for Roblox is browser-based cloud streaming. The game runs on a remote server and the video is streamed to your browser, so Roblox files are not installed on your computer.

- Select Play in Browser.
- Wait for the cloud session to initialize.
- Sign in to Roblox inside the streamed session.
- Choose an experience and play.

Availability, queues, advertisements, session limits, regional access, performance, and payment requirements can change. Do not assume the service is always free or unlimited; check the terms and any price shown on the genuine now.gg page before signing in or paying.
What to expect from browser streaming
- Performance depends on your connection: now.gg lists 5 Mbps minimum bandwidth in its requirements document, but bandwidth alone does not guarantee smooth play. Latency and network congestion matter too.
- Controls may differ: The streamed session may use a mobile version of Roblox. Keyboard, mouse, controller, camera, microphone, voice chat, graphics, and individual experience features may not match the desktop client.
- Not every experience is guaranteed: Cloud-service availability and compatibility can change, and a powerful local computer cannot eliminate delay caused by the network.
- Reloading can end the session: You may need to sign in again after refreshing or losing the connection.
- It is not offline play: Both Roblox and cloud streaming require an internet connection.

Chromebook: app versus browser streaming
Roblox’s official ChromeOS route uses the Android app. Roblox says ChromeOS should be updated and Google Play Store must be enabled. That makes the official option more reliable in many cases, but it does require an app download. See Roblox’s Chromebook troubleshooting guidance.

If the Play Store is unavailable or an administrator prohibits app installation, browser streaming may be the only practical no-download route. Roblox also warns that its Chromebook app does not work with Bluetooth mice or other Bluetooth pointing devices; that warning applies to the official app and not necessarily to every cloud-streaming setup.
Windows and Mac requirements
For the supported local-installation route, Roblox currently lists 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, and macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later. It recommends at least 300 MB of storage and lists 4–8 Mbps for a single-use household connection. The full requirements are in Roblox’s computer hardware and operating-system guide.

The normal process is simple: open Roblox.com, sign in, select an experience, click Play, and install or launch Roblox when prompted. If installation is allowed, this is generally the best choice for latency, controls, feature compatibility, and account security.
If now.gg does not work
- Use a current version of your browser. Chrome or Edge are sensible first choices on Windows and ChromeOS; Chrome or Safari are reasonable choices on Mac and iPad.
- Disable extensions that block scripts, video, cookies, or pop-ups, then allow the required cookies and pop-ups for the genuine service.
- Try a private or incognito window as a troubleshooting step. Do not use it to conceal activity that violates a school, workplace, or family policy.
- Check your connection. Stop large downloads, reduce other streaming, and move closer to the Wi-Fi access point. Wired or less congested Wi-Fi is usually preferable.
- Check whether a school, employer, family filter, firewall, VPN, proxy, or DNS policy blocks cloud-gaming traffic.
- Read any queue, subscription, or payment notice carefully. If access now requires a paid tier, the no-download option may no longer be free for your session or region.
- Use Roblox’s general connection troubleshooting for Roblox-side browser or connection problems.
Do not install an “unblocked Roblox” executable, browser extension, modified client, APK from an unknown source, or tool that requests your Roblox cookie. Those are common ways to lose an account or compromise a device.

School, work, and shared computers
Cloud streaming can avoid local administrator permission, but it cannot override the network owner’s rules. A school or employer may block the service, and attempting to bypass that restriction with a VPN, proxy, DNS trick, or similar method may violate its acceptable-use policy. Ask for permission or use a personal device instead.
On a shared computer, do not save your password, avoid automatic browser password storage, sign out when finished, and verify that the browser has not retained your account. Always check that you are on the genuine Roblox or now.gg domain before entering credentials.

Which option should you choose?
- Choose the official Roblox app if installation is allowed and you want the most dependable controls, lowest likely latency, and strongest compatibility.
- Choose browser cloud streaming if you cannot install anything, your device can run a modern browser, and you accept possible queues, latency, feature differences, privacy concerns, and changing availability.
- Choose the Chromebook Android app if Google Play Store is enabled and app installation is permitted.
- For Linux, treat cloud streaming as a workaround only. Roblox officially lists Linux as unsupported; unofficial Wine, wrapper, APK, or modified-client methods are not dependable solutions.
- For Roblox Studio, browser gameplay is not a replacement. Studio has separate installation requirements.
Bottom line: Roblox is not generally a download-free desktop browser game. You can play through a browser without installing Roblox locally only by using a cloud-streaming service such as now.gg when it is currently available. For supported devices where installation is permitted, the official Roblox app remains the more reliable option.
