You can keep a mobile game test separate from your main store identity, but a second account does not make the game or your phone anonymous. On Android, add the invited Google Account to the device, then select it in Google Play before opening the test link. On iPhone, Apple supports creating another Apple Account, but the exact TestFlight sign-in arrangement should be checked against Apple’s current instructions before changing any primary device sign-in.
What a separate account protects—and what it does not
A separate store account can help keep a test invitation and any purchases associated with the intended identity rather than your usual store account. It is not a privacy shield for the game: account separation alone does not guarantee that a test build cannot collect device information, permissions, gameplay data, or information you enter in the game.
Before installing an unfamiliar build, read its Google Play Data safety information and review the permissions it requests. Avoid entering sensitive personal or payment information unless the test genuinely requires it. Google Play developer policy sets requirements for disclosure and secure handling of covered data, but those requirements are not a feature that isolates test data from your main identity. If you create an in-game profile, check the game’s privacy notice and deletion process; Google’s policy says apps that let users create accounts must offer deletion in the app and through an external web resource, but a test build may not make that process smooth or obvious. Android: use the invited Google Account in Google Play
This is the clearest account-separation workflow for a Google Play test. The developer controls who can join, so use the exact address the invitation names or the developer has approved. Google says testers need a Google Account or Google Workspace account; whether that account is eligible depends on the configured test track. - Add the account to Android. In the Settings app, open the account-management section and choose the option to add an account, then select Google. Labels differ by Android version and manufacturer; Google lists labels including “Passwords & accounts,” “Users & accounts,” “Passwords, passkeys & autofill,” and “Manage accounts.” Follow the prompts to sign in with the eligible test address. - Select it in the Play Store. Open Google Play, tap the profile icon, and switch to the invited account. Confirm the selected address before opening the developer’s test link or installing the game. Google documents switching accounts from the Play Store profile menu. Google Play account help.
- Join using the developer’s link or instructions. Internal tests may use tester email lists and a Play Store link; closed tests can limit access to email lists or Google Groups; open tests may be publicly discoverable or linked from the store listing, depending on the app’s release state. If access is denied, verify that the selected account is the one invited and ask the developer to confirm eligibility or the correct enrollment link.
- Secure the account and device. Use a strong, unique password, add account-recovery options, enable two-step verification, and protect the phone with a screen lock. These steps matter because adding another account does not reduce the need to secure access to the device and the account itself. Google Play Help’s account-security recommendations.
Know what adding the account changes
Adding a Google Account to Android can add its associated information—such as email, contacts, and calendar data—to the device through sync. Review the account’s sync settings if you do not want particular data on that phone. When the test is finished, remove the account in Android Settings if appropriate; removing it also removes its associated information from that device. This is account-level cleanup, not proof that the game has deleted any data it collected. Google’s Android account instructions.
Google says accounts generally have separate settings, but some settings may follow the default account. The default can affect country-specific services, including Play Store content. If a test is missing or unavailable, check both the currently selected Play Store account and its region before assuming the link is broken. When a separate Android user or guest may help
If you are lending your phone to someone for a test, Android’s separate user or guest option can provide a device-level way to keep their use apart from your own profile. It is not necessarily what a developer’s Play test invitation requires: test eligibility still depends on the account and track the developer configured. Apple lets you create an Apple Account on an Apple device or on the web. Its setup guidance includes providing and verifying an email address, creating a strong password, choosing a country or region, and setting up two-factor authentication. However, the available Apple guidance here does not establish the exact current steps for using one Apple Account for TestFlight while keeping another as the iPhone’s iCloud or other primary sign-in. Do not sign out of iCloud or casually change the device’s primary account just to try a test. Use the account associated with the invitation and consult Apple’s current TestFlight instructions for that specific setup before changing sign-ins.
Apple’s purchase-migration instructions mention a restriction involving an account used with TestFlight to test developer beta apps: it cannot be used as the secondary account in that purchase-migration flow. Secure the separate Apple Account
Apple describes two-factor authentication as an additional layer of security. It combines the account password with a six-digit verification code sent to a trusted device or phone number. Use a strong password, keep recovery access current, and secure the iPhone with a passcode and supported biometric authentication. Apple Support: Two-factor authentication for Apple Account.

Before you install: a short safety check
- Confirm which email address the developer invited or approved, and which account is selected in the relevant store.
- Read the game’s data disclosures and review requested permissions; do not treat a separate store account as anonymity.
- Use a strong password, recovery options, two-step verification where available, and a screen lock.
- On Android, decide which account data may sync to the phone and whether you will remove the account after testing.
- Do not change an iPhone’s primary Apple sign-in until you have verified the current TestFlight procedure for your arrangement.
- Avoid entering sensitive details or payment information into a test build unless the test requires them and you trust the reason.
