Use a Save Station to save ordinary progress in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game also autosaves at some progression points, but make a manual station save when you can. To continue from a save, choose Play from the game menu and select the file you want.
How to save your progress
Save Stations are located around the map. Use one to save your progress; doing so also restores Samus’s health and ammunition. Autosaves occur at certain points—for example, when returning to Sol Valley from Flare Pool—but treat them as a backup rather than a substitute for saving at a station.

How to copy a save file
A copied file preserves the state represented by that save, letting you keep an earlier point available in another slot.

- Open the game menu and select Play to view the save files.
- Select the file you want to preserve.
- Press X to copy it, then place the duplicate in another slot.
How to load a save
From the game’s save-file menu, select the file you want to continue. The available guide confirms this selection route but does not document every confirmation prompt, so follow the on-screen instructions for the next step.
Endgame warning: preserve an earlier save if you want to keep exploring
Nintendo Life’s December 4, 2025 clarification reports that after the final boss, you can choose whether to save a Mission Complete file. If you decline, your previous manual save remains intact, although an autosave may leave you in the final area.

If you want to preserve an earlier open-world state, copy your save before proceeding past the in-game prompt “Order Troopers to Move Forward?” After the ending, decline the Mission Complete save so you do not replace that earlier manual state.

Nintendo Support’s update history says save data remains available after installing version 1.1.0, released December 3, 2025. That notice confirms preservation through the update; it does not establish cloud-backup behavior or a save-transfer procedure. Nintendo lists the game for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, and the available sources do not establish different save steps between those versions.
