Yes—The Outlast Trials supports cross-play between PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. To invite friends on another platform, share the Outlast ID shown in the Social Menu, then form your group in the Sleep Room and choose a Trial.
Which platforms can play together?
Red Barrels confirmed cross-play across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in its March 5, 2024 launch announcement, saying it lets players “play with friends across platforms.” The game must be available to each player on their chosen platform, and everyone needs to be able to play online. Red Barrels’ cross-play announcement lists the supported platforms.
PlayStation’s listing identifies the game as a downloadable PS4 and PS5 title, requires online play and says online PlayStation features require a PlayStation account. Online-service or subscription requirements can vary by platform and region, so check the relevant storefront for the terms that apply to your account. PlayStation’s game listing
How to add friends and start a group
- Check that everyone can play online. Each friend needs access to the game on a supported platform and an active platform account or service where required.
- Exchange Outlast IDs. Open the Social Menu and share the Outlast ID shown there with the friends you want to connect with. Use that ID to find or connect with one another; Red Barrels documents it as the cross-platform friend-connection method.
- Meet in the Sleep Room. Form the party there. Red Barrels’ matchmaking notes describe the Sleep Room as the place to set up a group and select a Trial.
- Choose a Trial and launch. Once grouped, agree on the Trial. The group leader can change the selected Trial after the group has formed.
The official setup information does not establish a current button-by-button sequence for every platform, so the exact controls may differ. Look for the Social Menu in your game rather than relying on a platform-specific button combination or an unverified cross-play toggle.

How many friends can join?
A team can have up to four players. Red Barrels’ matchmaking notes refer to Duo, Trio and Quad group sizes, so a cross-platform party can be built around the number of friends available, up to that limit. Red Barrels’ matchmaking and group setup notes
Does cross-play mean progress transfers?
No. Playing together across platforms and transferring progress between platform accounts are separate features. In its March 2024 1.0 announcement, Red Barrels said cross-progression was not supported at that time. That statement is dated, so check the developer’s current information before assuming that unlocks or progress will carry over if you switch platforms. Red Barrels’ March 2024 announcement

- Confirm platform coverage: the supported list in Red Barrels’ announcement includes PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
- Check the ID: make sure friends exchange the Outlast ID from the Social Menu, not a platform username in its place.
- Move party setup to the Sleep Room: form the group there, then have the leader select or change the Trial.
- Check online access: verify that each player can access their platform’s online features and review current platform-specific requirements.
