Choose the right version for your console and priorities
- Series S owner: Select the digital Retro Roundup!, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition or the combined digital package. Series S has no disc drive, so an Xbox 360 disc or a physical game package cannot be used directly.
- Series X owner seeking the newest presentation: Buy the 2026 edition that matches what you want to play. Retro Roundup! is the collection with historical extras; Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is the standalone remaster of the 2010 game. The combined digital product is the straightforward choice if you want both.
- Owner of the old Xbox 360 game: Check your Xbox library before buying again. Xbox says backward compatibility is free for select Xbox 360, original Xbox and Xbox One games you already own. Toy Story 3 appears in the compatible-games catalog.
- Shopping for a disc: Search specifically for the Xbox 360 version of Toy Story 3, then verify the seller, region, disc condition and compatibility before paying. Do not assume that a physical double pack is available for Xbox in your market.
How to buy and play the 2026 editions digitally
On Xbox Series S
- Open the Microsoft Store on the console and search for the exact product name: Disney/Pixar Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, Disney/Pixar Toy Story 3 Complete Edition or the combined package.
- Check that the listing identifies Xbox Series X|S optimization and that the edition is the one you intend to buy. The old Xbox 360 product and the 2026 Complete Edition are different listings.
- Review the currency and total shown for your account’s region. The reported U.S. launch price for Retro Roundup! was $24.99, but that figure is not a universal price.
- Complete the purchase with the Microsoft account that you use on the Series S.
- Open your library, select the purchased title and choose the install command. After installation, launch it from My games & apps.
A Series S cannot read an Xbox disc. If a retailer supplies a disc rather than a digital code, it is not a usable format for this console; obtain a digital Xbox license instead.

On a disc-capable Xbox Series X
You can follow the same Store steps for a digital purchase. A Series X also gives you the option of using compatible physical media, but the 2026 package’s Xbox disc availability is not confirmed across regions. Treat a listing as digital unless the retailer explicitly identifies an Xbox disc and your region.
When choosing between the two remastered products, remember that the Complete Edition is the remastered Toy Story 3 game, whereas Retro Roundup! is a collection. Buying one does not automatically mean you own the other unless the listing is the combined package.

How to play the original Xbox 360 Toy Story 3 on Series X
If you owned the digital Xbox 360 release
- Sign in to the Series X with the Microsoft account that owns the Xbox 360 license.
- Open your game library and search for Toy Story 3. Xbox’s compatibility catalog identifies it as “Toy Story 3 | Games on Demand | Disney Interactive Studios.”
- Select the title and install the backward-compatible version offered by the console.
- Launch it after installation. The game remains the original Xbox 360 release, not the 2026 Toy Story 3 Complete Edition.
If you have an Xbox 360 disc
- Use a disc-capable Xbox Series X model. Series S has no optical drive and cannot use the disc.
- Insert the original Toy Story 3 Xbox 360 disc.
- Allow the console to identify the title and offer the compatible installation. The disc acts as your ownership check; the game files are installed to the console.
- Keep the disc inserted when you start the game, because the console may use it to verify the license.
Compatibility applies to an eligible release, not to every disc that happens to carry a similar title. Check the exact game name and region when buying second-hand media. A disc that is damaged, counterfeit or from a release not supported by the catalog may fail even when the title name looks correct.
What Xbox backward compatibility means here
Xbox describes backward compatibility as a free feature for select Xbox 360, original Xbox and Xbox One games already owned by the player. Its Series X|S quality program used more than 500,000 hours of testing, according to Xbox. That testing figure describes the broader compatibility program; it is not a performance measurement for Toy Story 3 specifically.

The practical distinction is ownership format. A digital Xbox 360 license can be associated with your account and installed on a compatible Series X. An eligible physical license requires a disc-capable console. Series S owners must use a digital license for both the 2026 editions and the older game.
Backward compatibility also does not turn the 2010 release into the 2026 remaster. Menus, presentation and preservation material belong to the edition you launch. If you want the newly remastered Toy Story 3, select Toy Story 3 Complete Edition; if you want the Xbox 360 version you already own, use the compatible listing.

The editions should be treated as separate products when comparing purchases. The presence of a compatible Xbox 360 version in your library does not establish ownership of the Complete Edition, and buying the Complete Edition does not establish ownership of the wider Retro Roundup! collection.

The reported U.S. digital price for Retro Roundup! was $24.99 on its 15 October 2026 release. That is a regional launch price, not a guaranteed worldwide or permanent price. Microsoft Store totals can differ by country, currency, tax treatment and later promotions. The store page for your account should be checked immediately before checkout.

The combined package
Microsoft lists a combined Retro Roundup! plus Toy Story 3 Complete Edition product. Creative Bloq reported a $49.99 physical double pack, but physical-platform availability must be confirmed by region. A Spanish announcement summary indicated that the physical pack was not available on Xbox, so do not order an Xbox disc bundle solely because a listing appears under another platform or territory.
Buying a used Xbox 360 disc
The original Xbox 360 disc is the relevant physical route for a Series X player who wants the older game. Confirm all of the following before purchase:
- The listing says Toy Story 3: The Video Game for Xbox 360, not a different Toy Story title or a soundtrack, movie or accessory.
- The disc is readable and includes the original game media rather than an empty case or download code that has already been redeemed.
- The seller identifies the region and accepts returns if the disc is not recognized.
- Your console is a disc-capable Series X and the title appears in Xbox’s compatibility catalog.
Troubleshooting common problems
The Xbox 360 disc is not recognized
- Confirm that you are using Series X, not Series S; Series S cannot read discs.
- Check the disc for scratches, warping or contamination and clean it with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Verify that the disc is the Xbox 360 game and that the title is the compatible release listed by Xbox.
- Restart the console and try the installation again while connected to Xbox services.
- If a second-hand disc still fails, contact the seller rather than assuming that the 2026 Complete Edition will appear automatically; it is a separate purchase listing.
The owned digital game is missing from the library
- Sign out and back in with the Microsoft account that made the Xbox 360 purchase.
- Search the library by the title rather than relying only on the recently installed list.
- Check purchase history and confirm that the transaction was for the Xbox 360 game, not a different Toy Story product.
- If the license is present but installation is unavailable, verify that the console is online and that Xbox services are operating normally.
A Series S buyer has a physical copy
The disc cannot be converted into a playable Series S license merely by inserting it elsewhere. Return or exchange the physical product for a digital edition or a valid digital code. The same hardware limitation applies to an Xbox physical bundle.

Prices and inventory are regional and can change. Search each product separately, check the console’s country and account region, and compare the exact edition names. If the combined product is absent, the two digital editions may still be listed individually.

- “Optimized for Series X|S” is not the same as backward compatible. The 2026 products are current-console listings; the Xbox 360 game is accessed through the compatibility program.
- A collection is not automatically the standalone game. Verify whether the cart contains Retro Roundup!, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition or both.
- Digital and physical ownership behave differently. Series S requires digital ownership; Series X can use an eligible Xbox 360 disc as well as digital licenses.
